Hi APJ,
A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.
You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.
SOTD 23.7 – 29.7.2018
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Go To It Crew.

Today I chose Lutens/Sheldrake’s scintillating La Myrrhe. I got it in a swap and, while I was initially taken aback by the sweetness, it has gone from being a like to being a very strong love.
It opens with lotus, mandarin, and a positively shimmering blast of aldehydes. Honey and almond lend a cherry-like sweetness that stops just shy of overwhelming. Centering all this is an exquisite myrrhe. Soapy in the best kind of way, this one makes me feel clean and radiant on this muggy summer day

Just wanted to say thank you for recommending Leverage…I remember having started the series but then getting distracted by something else…I know I really liked it so I will get back to it as I believe there are several seasons (maybe 5?)
LikeLike
Well I just checked and it looks like Netflix removed it 😦 I don’t know why they do that! I also think that depending on what country you live in both Netflix and Hulu have different offerings.
LikeLike
Dammit, Netflix!. I really hope you’ll find Leverage somewhere, it’s worth the effort.
OK, maybe check these out: GLOW, Mozart in the Jungle, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency (it’s crazy and adorable), Silicon Valley and, perhaps, the Brink. Let me know if you like stuff about musicals & theatre, I’ve got a couple suggestions ;)) You might think that I watch too many series but they’re my English textbooks
LikeLike
Dirk Gently was on my radar!!! I will add it to my list. Yes, I am open to any suggestions 😸. And your English is outstanding if it’s a second language for you so I guess it’s working !
LikeLike
Thank you, Brigitte! To be precise, English is not even a second language for me since I don’t use it in my everyday life (singing along doesn’t count).
So, the series: Slings and Arrows is a dark comedy drama (it’s not new so maybe you’ve seen it already). It’s about a Shakespeare theatre in Canada, and each season focuses on a production of a different major Shakespeare play. This show is smart, witty, has a brilliant cast and a truly awesome (in the original sense of the word) script. There’s a scene where the character gives an analysis of Ophelia’s mental state after the death of her father, it’s breathtaking.
NBC’s Smash is more of a guilty pleasure to me: it’s about the Broadway theatre. The characters don’t really have much development, it feels a bit “soapy” but there are a few spectacular musical numbers and Leslie Odom Jr. in a supporting role!
That’s it for now: I don’t want to bore you 🙂

I decided to start downsizing and organizing my stash this morning, so I grabbed a box of samples to sniff through while having my morning coffee. The scent that made an impression was Diptyque Vetyverio. It’s not as crisp or sharp as some vetivers, so it struck me that it’s a tad sweet, a tad spicy with the underlying vetiver in it. It’s been consistently 30C since the start of summer and I keep hoping for a cooler day here or there. It doesn’t seem to get as cool at night as it used to, so I’m looking for cooling, crisp scents to help me through. I really am an autumn/winter type of person.

LOL! I am actually NOT overspraying the Greylocke so I don’t think the 50 ml bottle is empty (it’s opaque so hard to see how much juice is in there). While my favorite e.o.s come from Eden Botanicals my budget no longer allows it so I have been buying NOW brands for most of my e.o.s. This rose is a dilute in a carrier oil but it makes experiencing it affordable and possible.

Escanda is a brank which kind of bypassed me….I always perceived their fragrances as ‘too young, too girlie’ for me….what a snob I was in the 90s lol.

brank? lol…what was I trying to say…..range, perhaps?

I first read it as “brand”. Anyway, I agree with you on most of their scents being a bit simple, however, I loved Magnetism’s sparkling raspberries. I could use some of it now.

The original Escada was gorgeous…a smooth vanilla with coconut and ylang ylang…very sexy. The original summer limited editions were amazing…they were sweet but had interesting notes especially in the base (we are talking real oakmoss!). Un Ete En Provence was one of the bottles I brought back from my first visit to Paris so the scent is special to me. Then, I started really liking those bottles so I just kept buying one every year 😉 As the years when on the bottle design changed and the juice did indeed get more fruity and geared towards a younger crowd (although Cherries in the Air was a good recent one that I enjoyed). I have every single bottle since 1994 in regular size and a mini of the very first bottle from 1993 (Chiffon Sorbet). The eldest picked up the torch about three years ago and started buying the bottles and wearing the fragrances every spring. She is the one who has asked to inherit my bottle collection. Also, Escada Signature (I think that is what it was called) was a sweet tobacco and heavy gorgeous scent that came in very ornate bottles that were supposed to mimic the haute couture dresses sold by Escada. If you google escada bottles you will see some of them. They are gorgeous….I have two.

Now I see that I don’t really know Escada well enough. What a lovely tradition you and your daughter have, Brigitte!

Today I’m wearing a perfume oil… a dupe of Insolence. It’s very well done.
