SOTD 6.8 – 12.8.2018

Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 6.8 – 12.8.2018

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Humid! My son starts football practice this evening – heat acclimization. I’m prepared for massive stink at pickup time. Today I’m lavishing in Eau d’Hadrien.

  2. Bois des Iles, for the second day in a row. Unheard of!
I’m pondering wearing it for the rest of the week, because it’s an awfully long time since I’ve tried that sort of consistency with any scent. (blame Madame Marzipan…)

  3. It’s hot as balls here in Washington, DC today. My SOTD is My Precious, vintage YSL Kouros. I am also awaiting delivery of a bottle of vintage Giorgio for Men. Thank you for sharing your nuptials with us. I wish you both a long and happy life. Cheers!

  4. Started the morning in Mojave ghost. A decant given to me by a generous APJer . It’s great for the heat so I will wear it all week. Jad to kill time between my youngest’s college class so I sprayed myself silly in Target and Sephora. I reek.

  5. going with Mohave Ghost again…another scortcher…it was 96 degrees yesterday and I was mowing the lawn…yikes!

Last night I wore pure frankincense essential oil to bed…so soothing…love it! and my bottle was cheap as chips in comparison to what it reminds me of (Heeley’s Cardinal).

    • oooh, that sounds nice. I burn frankincense sometimes, but always fret that I’m going to set all the smoke alarms off…some essential oil might be the way to go!

      Like

      • Oh yes! It keeps the smell close to the skin ..although I also enjoy burning incense but only when hubs is not home as the smoke bothers him.

      • If you have a bit of extra cash I would recommend exploring Eden Botanicals. Their Somalian frankincense was always my favorite. However, due to budget constraints I am on the cheap these days so I bought my bottle from Vitacost. It retails for around 15 USD for one ounce (which is a good price) but the company often does buy one get one half off and they also send me 20-30 percent off coupons via email. So basically I got it for the price of two cups of coffee 🙂

        • Thanks, Brigitte! I used to order stuff from Vitacost until they started messing with international shipping rates, for a few years now it’s only been iHerb. I’ll keep the brand in mind, its price seems reasonable (it’s still 10 cups of coffee equivalent 🙂 but who’s counting?)

          • Diana, you are funny! I have also used NOW Essentials brand frankincense but it is diluted with a carrier oil so the smell is not as potent. If iHerb carries it you could always give that a try.

  6. day three of Box of Eels. Extrait on skin, EDT on a scarf.

Humid as anything here–to the point where it’s not exactly raining, but the humidity is falling out of the sky.

but wish I was wearing something a little louder, given that my across-the-desk colleague seems to have neglected basic personal hygiene today and… yeah. Oof.

(I suspect it’s a lot cooler here than with you. Heat has finally GONE in Scotland, and I am so relieved)

          • I don’t think it has *ever* been that hot here (goes to check…)
nope… 33.2 is highest recorded temp in the history of records here. And that was June this year.

          • Well done , Melanie. It seems socks and undies are something the homeless charities often need. I’m feeling a bit ‘brighter’ today, and I’ve become a domestic goddess….3 loads of clothes washing, swept /washed the kitchen floor, made dinner reservations { due to the drought there is a campaign to raise money ,named Parma for a Farmer} so will be going to a pub.

Perfume -wise I’m wearing 52 Ans, created for me, by me at Sweet Fern on the 20th June. I have no idea what I put in it, because I didn’t write it down accurately {rookie mistake}. I applied it approx. 6 hours ago and still going strong. Hubby’s response when I’d been wearing it for an hour was…..’Not bad, surprisingly sophisticated’ lol

          • Saffy…was 52 Ans a gift to yourself for your 52nd bday? I think that’s a fabulous idea to custom make a fragrance to commemorate your day.

  7. G. Armani Emporio Diamonds for me today! another treasure from the back row.
One of the morning radio stations i listen to is doing a fundraising drive for socks & undies for the homeless here in Adelaide today. So while dropping off my bag of donations, the lovely weather lady representing the station (a well known adelaide celebrity) , said please pose for a photo. with me Then after the photo she said – oh, i love your perfume!! what is it??

    • Don’t you just love getting perfume compliments from strangers? always makes my day.

Also, love this idea of donating socks and undies….I usually donate gently used clothes to my local churches but have not thought of including socks and undies. Maybe I should.

  8. Another scorcher of a day so I am sticking with generous sprays of Mojave Ghost to keep me cool and refreshed. The weeds are calling my name 😦 so more yardwork is on the agenda along with cleaning and housework today.

  10. Today I noticed my Boucheron Trouble Legere had been sadly unloved for ages so I grabbed it out and wore it to the movies to see Incredibles II (Yeah, it was good but not great). Then I went to work in it and it’s still powering away happily after all that.

    • What a nice way to give a perfume some skin time, Portia! Strangely enough, I don’t think I’ve ever tried any Boucheron at all (I honestly don’t know why) but they sure have a reputation for some big perfumes.

I had’t even realised we were back up! Today I wore SL Five o’clock with a lavish touch.
But find I’m craving something seeped in patchouli or maybe something boozy. In a funk here too. First time I’m not enjoying the lovely winter.

Hope everyone else is fab 💕

  14. Mojave Ghost…again! for more heat today! Taking two of the marzipans to a Dominican restaurant….actually they are going inside to eat whilst I run my errands.

      • It really is!!! It was a gift from an APJer. It blooms beautifully in this oppressive heat (37 C if I have done the math correctly) that we have been having. My decision to use and drain anything and everything I want to wear rather than saving for a rainy day is working out beautifully.

        • It’s great to know a perfume gets some loving. You’ve inspired me to go through my stash of decants & samples, I’m wearing Immortelle by Manos Gerakinis. I’m not usually one for gourmand scents but this one is lovely (milk, cinnamon, burnt sugar). The only downside is that I need to find something as delicious to have my evening tea with.

          Like

          • that scent sounds delicious! I am not familiar with that brand. I love immortelle and have worked with the essential oil…very thick oil that needs to be diluted with a carrier oil…but it smells divine…I like the supporting notes (milk , cinnamon and sugar) you have listed…i bet you smell great!!!!!

            Like

        • Thanks, Brigitte! I have no idea how immortelle smells IRL but this frag is really nice. I’ve spritzed some Gardenia, Manos’s other scent, on the wrist, this one also leans to the sweet side but surprisingly, I’m enjoying it. Now, I’m not ready to invest in a full bottle of either one just yet but I’ll definitely be draining these decants.

  15. Friday Frolics… Oh how I wish!!!!! My TV died…it died a painful death. And the timing for me couldn’t be worse!!!! The netball finals begin this week….I have watched every match from the entire season, and now at the ‘business end’ my tv dies!!!!!!.
Anyway in other fabulous news, the house we rent out needs some repairs…$700ish dollars. Think I’ll have to do an extra couple of shifts over the next month. To soothe my soul and calm my fried nerves I’m going to wear vintage Opium.

    • Yikes! No bueno. Can you watch at a friend’s place.

  17. Fourreau Noir by Lutens was my SOTD. We went to a nearby town to clean up the house we’re trying to sell, and since that was not how I’d planned to spend Saturday, I decided to wear something posh at least, and so I did.

  18. Wearing Ummagumma (Bruno Fazzolari) today. Funny name but awesome scent. Big, tobacco, woody, leather, cedar & amber. Perhaps more incense than smoke. It’s good, but I probably should have checked the price before I sampled – doh! Perfect winter scent.
Quickly tried the Zoologist samples yesterday – these are very different so will post my thoughts later after a proprer wear. The three I picked are Elephant, Moth, and Camel. Moth and Camel winning because Elephant is a bit green for me. But they are all very interesting scents. Floaty types that I seem to notice more around me than on me. Very intriguing.

I’m heading to work a bit earlier today to watch the netball…. the things e do for the love of something ,eh? I’ve applied 2 fragrances today… Grey Flannel and Equinox Bloom.

  20. Something I have discovered this week is that my current crop of migraines and headaches–they have been rotten these past couple of months–mutate my sense of smell temporarily. They didn’t before. I know that some people get super-sensitive to smells before a migraine hits, often to the point where they assume that smell is then the trigger, but my sense now starts to shut down instead. But in specific slices.

I’ve always found lavender and frankincense helpful when dealing with exploding head before. On Thursday I found that I couldn’t smell incense at all. Not even slightly. Dumped half a sample of Unum Lavs onto my arm and there was…nothing. This from something where a couple of tiny spritzes wrapped me up in severe liturgical loveliness before. Two or three others, you know, for science? Nope. Gone. And tonka, my much loved tonka/courmarin note? Gag-level nausea. Yeah, a sniff of the nozzle of Fourreau Noir was a _big_ mistake. This effect seems to last from the pre-migraine doom sense through to a few hours in to the after headache. I then craved sharp smells very intensely, and ended up zesting a lemon to deal with that. Interesting. And all new.

it’s ok. Incense is back. Was burning some omani frankincense yesterday and it was just lovely.

    • When Mr.Marzipan gets migraines I cannot wear any fragrance in the house. They induce nausea for him. But his are usually triggered by allergies. Hope the migraines subside for you.

      Like

      • thanks. Had them almost all my life and never found the trigger, but never this often. I am hoping that the anticipated drop in stress and rise in sleeping hours that start on 1 september will make a big difference to the frequency.

  21. This summer’s intense heat has now gone. We had pretty bad weather on Friday afternoon, with trees falling and so on. I was happy to be inside, don’t know if the sudden change in weather triggerede my migraine. Wore Jardin du poete Friday and Saturday. Today a little Sud Magnolia (Atelier Cologne) from a purse/travel spray. I had that one with me when on holday in Finland at the start of August (also unusually warm), and now I’m thinking I want to finish this small spray bottle before we get really cold weather, the fruity notes are very noticeable in Sud Magnolia and not something I would look for in colder weather. However, I don’t seem to have much luck with finishing any perfume bottles, much easier with all the different lotions, shower gels and hand creams once i decided I had too much.
