Hi APJ,
A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.
You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.
SOTD 6.8 – 12.8.2018
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Go To It Crew.

I adore the smell of frankincense. What brand do you have, Brigitte?
LikeLike
If you have a bit of extra cash I would recommend exploring Eden Botanicals. Their Somalian frankincense was always my favorite. However, due to budget constraints I am on the cheap these days so I bought my bottle from Vitacost. It retails for around 15 USD for one ounce (which is a good price) but the company often does buy one get one half off and they also send me 20-30 percent off coupons via email. So basically I got it for the price of two cups of coffee 🙂

Not sure if they ship to you but vitacost is having a 12 percent off sale as I type this 🙂

Thanks, Brigitte! I used to order stuff from Vitacost until they started messing with international shipping rates, for a few years now it’s only been iHerb. I’ll keep the brand in mind, its price seems reasonable (it’s still 10 cups of coffee equivalent 🙂 but who’s counting?)
LikeLike
Diana, you are funny! I have also used NOW Essentials brand frankincense but it is diluted with a carrier oil so the smell is not as potent. If iHerb carries it you could always give that a try.

Something I have discovered this week is that my current crop of migraines and headaches–they have been rotten these past couple of months–mutate my sense of smell temporarily. They didn’t before. I know that some people get super-sensitive to smells before a migraine hits, often to the point where they assume that smell is then the trigger, but my sense now starts to shut down instead. But in specific slices.
I’ve always found lavender and frankincense helpful when dealing with exploding head before. On Thursday I found that I couldn’t smell incense at all. Not even slightly. Dumped half a sample of Unum Lavs onto my arm and there was…nothing. This from something where a couple of tiny spritzes wrapped me up in severe liturgical loveliness before. Two or three others, you know, for science? Nope. Gone. And tonka, my much loved tonka/courmarin note? Gag-level nausea. Yeah, a sniff of the nozzle of Fourreau Noir was a _big_ mistake. This effect seems to last from the pre-migraine doom sense through to a few hours in to the after headache. I then craved sharp smells very intensely, and ended up zesting a lemon to deal with that. Interesting. And all new.
it’s ok. Incense is back. Was burning some omani frankincense yesterday and it was just lovely.

This summer’s intense heat has now gone. We had pretty bad weather on Friday afternoon, with trees falling and so on. I was happy to be inside, don’t know if the sudden change in weather triggerede my migraine. Wore Jardin du poete Friday and Saturday. Today a little Sud Magnolia (Atelier Cologne) from a purse/travel spray. I had that one with me when on holday in Finland at the start of August (also unusually warm), and now I’m thinking I want to finish this small spray bottle before we get really cold weather, the fruity notes are very noticeable in Sud Magnolia and not something I would look for in colder weather. However, I don’t seem to have much luck with finishing any perfume bottles, much easier with all the different lotions, shower gels and hand creams once i decided I had too much.
