Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 13.8 – 19.8.2018

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Prada Tendre for regular wearings and one tiny spray of Jo Malone Vetyvr in honor of youngest’s bday …I stole a spritz when he wasn’t looking 🙂

  2. Lolita Lempicka Fleur de Corail. Citrus, tropical flowers, definitely summery – I don’t think I have ever worn in the winter. I bought L de LL for the vanilla note (during my early-on vanilla obsession) and then bought this one because I liked the bottle and the pair of them together. 😳

  3. The One Essence today. No marked difference between this and the original except the price. They saw me coming😃

  4. So French by Eisenberg, my favourite fruity leather. I said it before and I’ll say it again: to me it’s as powerful as Cuir de Russie by Chanel but even more rich. I see a second bottle in my future.

  5. Parfums DelRae Emotionnelle. Wow! Definitely something I wouldn’t wear in a tightly packed space but what a rich, textured melon. Glad that there is no hint of aquatic :).

  6. Wore Amouage Ciel (from a carded sample) for work today. Need to drain the sample really and it is a good one for the slightly warmer weather we got today. Le Jardin de Monsieur Li in the afternoon, very citrusy, I rememberede it as more aquatic when I tested it from my sister’s miniature bottle. Then Un Jardin sur le Toit this evening, that one is more my cup of tea and is less fleeting than M. Li. Still, none of these would be easy to over-spray. And as a side note: Wish the bottles in these Hermes sets had been spray bottles. The presetation is otherwhise really neat, a set of 4 small “le jardin” bottles in the typical orange Hermes box. Gives some variety without buying ffull bottles of each perfume

    • Hi Ingeborg,
How bloody cute are those sets? Best gift.
I think that dab or splashing these babies also doesn’t get enough juice on your body. Monsieur Li lasts all day for me and most things don’t.
Weird that they don’t do spritzes. Next time buy a set of the 15ml Travels. You can pick any fragrance they make just about and it comes in the box, and each one has a little bag of its own\n.

  7. Wearing Montale Musk Oud & Mancera Black intensive oud today.
Yesterday I trialled a couple of my Zoologist scents – Camel and Moth. Camel is quite sharp at the start, but soon calms down to a sweet, fruit, amber musk. Maybe Jasmine and tea. A super interesting scent but quite light. It reminded me of Tokyo Milks Pretty Rotten. Maybe it would like a warmer day. Moth was hard work! I wanted to scrub it but persisted through the sharp, stale, medicine start. Later it softened but not to something I would wear. I didn’t really find the notes others had mentioned like rose, honey and smoke but I might say it finished as a powdery floral. I was super interested that they changed so much and there was a huge difference between initial spray and later. I’ll give Elephant another spin and see if I can review. I picked these three looking for my usual woody, orientals so have been a bit surprised not to find that. Might research the others in the range to see if there something more me.

  8. Giorgio BH as it was on my desk doing some paperwork!! It’s a bit strong… am thinking I need to try some low key perfumes?
Also my friend from school was telling me she only wears one perfume and it’s Coco … Chanel which I love but I don’t know if I could live with just one signature scent!! Mmmmm

  9. I got frustrated looking at my pile of samples/decants, and just couldn’t decide. So I went for another lucky dip in my perfume drawers…..right at the back of drawer 2,my hands grabbed a bottle. Cinema by YSL. Wow….it has been AGES since I last wore this stunner!!!

  10. I got one of the best complements today. I was in a training, this girl came to me and said- Do you mind if I stand next to you during the whole training. I was like ok with a weird look. Then she said- you smell so good. what are you wearing? The toughest question to answer. I get nervous when some unknown person ask me this question. I was like- MFK APOM. She is like what is that? Then I had to do the abbreviation. She is like wow. I had to write it down from where she can buy. Later after finishing the training we had a small chat. And she said she is going to get it this weekends. 🙂

SOTD- APOM PH over Masculin Pluriel (MP). I must say MFK is a genius. And I am sure she was getting the APOM. I do love APOM. To me one of the best masculine florals. APOM with MP is just wowed me. The weather in Sydney is perfect for this combo. The dry down is phenomenal. I get the powdery musky floral with woody dry leathery lavender. The lavender is barely noticeable but I get the vibe. Love it. If you haven’t try this combo please try and let us know what you think.

  11. Today I finished off my sample of Comme des Garcons EDP 2001. The sprayer had evaporated so it was a sticky mess in a physical sense as well as olfactory. While I find the proudly synthetic concept refreshing, the scent itself was less interesting than its notes list suggested.

  12. Hey guys, you were right: both packages arrived today: Sublime Balkiss and my first Alien – Eau Sublime, plus one of the sellers added samples of Aura and Alien Flora Futura! I haven’t tried neither of the scents so I’m currently wearing all of them which is not a good way to form an opinion 😄

  13. Today I went for Nicolai l’eau Corail. Mango! Doesn’t seem to be available on the website but I snagged a 30ml at the boutique in Paris. I love 30ml bottles – they make me feel like I have a shot at actually using them up someday. Tomorrow I’m going to start tackling some samples to use them up… I have already culled a large number for giving away but there are quite a few that I want to wear again and now is the time – before school starts and I worry about offending someone!

  15. G’day all. Finally the sun is poking through the clouds today. And it is calm!!!! I’m off to the hairdressers today… cut ,condition and colour. I’m well overdue because I tend to not go as often as I should. At least my ‘old girl grey’ will be covered up.
I’m wearing PHI Rose de Khandahar, from a sample. And I will join the THUNK club, because I’ve bundled up a few unwanted samples to take to work tomorrow.

But wait. . . Just picked up a little treasure from the PO, a tiny little bottle of vintage Magie Noire, also a perfume oil and did the frantic sawing with car key to get it open. Oh holy sheets, it’s indescribably fabulous. I had a bit of an emotional reaction actually. I am a saddo, I know. It brought me back to 1991 or so when I got my first bottle, it was a Christmas pressie from the then boyfriend now hubby.

    • Well guess what folks….. I left my bag of samples at home on my kitchen table. NO ONE at work noticed, or said anything about my hair, TGIF is not the same to me, and my shoulder is ok. A sore shoulder/ back ect. unfortunately comes with the job.
Heading off to bed soon, after having a nice hot shower, and a spritz of Ostara.

      • It’s stunning…I think many folks would be surprised how beautiful and complex essential oils can smell..osmanthus absolute is so complex it is a perfume unto itself. Same with tuberose absolute. The first time I smelled frankincense oil I immediately thought of Heeley’s Cardinal (which is probably my favorite incense). I have also been using the frankincense to make my own solid perfumes. I was a busy beaver this morning and made four (two for me and two for the girls) using a variety of oils and combinations.

          • Eden Botanicals. But I am not sure if they ship outside of the States. They have a massive selection of gorgeous oils….if you can get your hands on some go for it! I always got the samplers as they were less expensive…with the small samples (they only put six drops in a one ml vial) I would add some jojoba oil to it to make it more attainable (it’s hard to get to those six drops which sink to the bottom of the vial) and also longer lasting. I wore osmanthus and also tuberose as perfumes that way. And they blend beautifully with other oils…osmanthus + yuzu and tuberose + coconut pulp or vanilla.

I would recommend any pure frankincense oil…I happen to use the Vitacost one because it is highly affordable.

PHI lasts even on my scent eating skin. The Tauers really pack a punch! Incense Rose is a BOMB on me as is Maroc Pour Elle. I think my absolute favorite is LAir de Dessert Maroccain although I still have not tried Couer de Desert and am thinking that when/if I ever do that one might make it to the top of my list of Tauer favorites.

  19. I have been wearing Carthusia The Essence of Central Park two days in a row. It is a light green floral, actually best in early summer. But it is office friendly, so perfect for a day with meetings.

After the first 20 minutes you cannot find anything demanding in this one. It has a nice construction and it lasts pretty well. Since the extreme heat (for our shores) started already in spring, this hardly got any wear earlier in summer.

And funny story, I wore Incense Pure once and a Tibetan Buddhist nun stopped me in my tracks to ask what I was wearing because it “smells so spiritual”. I had to write down the name on paper for her. Then she invited me to her monastery for free meditation 🙂

  24. Wearing my beloved Magie Noire again. I’m going to use this one up soon as, because it’s old and now that I’ve broken the seal I’m afraid it will turn, as it’s not a spray. The oil has preserved the scent splendidly. I keep sticking my nose down my top and sniffing. I don’t do it where anyone can see me, though, or people might start to talk😂

Alas there is perfume to buy {and a TV} and everyday bills, so money has to be earnt!!! I don’t really know what to wear today…. I’m feeling quite ‘uneasy’, so I will need something to help focus and keep calm.

    • Yes, YSL’s. It was + 35 yesterday. ILA was alright but I suspect it would be greener when it’s colder outside. Chypres and green scents have made me hate autumn and winter less since I’m always curious to find out how a certain perfume might behave. It’s August, though, and I just can’t stop whining in my heart that the temperatures will soon start dropping.
