Neela Vermeire Creations: Summer Vacation Memories + GIVEAWAY

Hey there APJ! How have you all been doing?

Summer has gone by in a flash here. The schools only have six weeks of vacation which in my mind is too short. That aside, it was a fantastic summer here in the Netherlands with high temperatures and no rain. You see, I love the heat and sunshine.

Neela Vermeire Creations

So, in order to get my yearly fix of heat and sunshine I flew with my son to Atlanta to visit my parents and see family and friends. I decided to travel with a couple of Neela Vermeire Creations perfumes.

We left the house at 4am to get to Schiphol to start our journey. I know many people worry about offending fellow passengers on flights but I needed a spritz or two of Ashoka to get me through the day. Once we were checked in, we were greeted by the most gorgeous sunrise over an airplane. Ashoka was my perfume of armour to get through the security, connecting flights and turbulence without breaking a sweat.

Ashoka is one of my go to fragrances. It gives me strength when I need it. It gives me courage to do things outside of my comfort zone. It gives me the peace of mind to know that everything will be alright. Yes, almost sounds like a miracle drug. Come to think of it, Ashoka is my miracle drug of choice. It wore beautifully in the Atlanta climate. Completely different than wearing it in the Netherlands. Who knew?

When we got to Atlanta my sister and nieces had also arrived from Seattle. The cousins had a hoot together since seeing each other two years ago. Sometimes being this far away from family can be really challenging.

We spent the next three and a half weeks swimming in warm pools until we our fingers turned all pruney. Evenings were spent at the BBQ, chatting and meeting up with old friends. The kids all stayed up late, laughing and giggling until they had to go to bed. My son was tickled pink to see his first firefly which brought memories of my childhood chasing fireflies on the summer nights.

Another NVC love of mine is Mohur EdP which by the way was stunning in the heat and humidity. I was so amazed at the tranformation in the Atlanta climate that I wore it until my mom snagged my bottle! Hehe – so happy that she loves it as much as I do.

Mohur EdP makes me feel pulled together. It is a gorgeous elegant perfume which I dare to wear almost daily. Why should I wait and wear it only on special occasions? Mohur is a now or never perfume; put on dark red lipstick, let my hair down and enjoy life as much as I possibly can. The vibrant fuchsia and red of the crepe myrtles brought to mind the roses in Mohur.

On one of the evenings we had a big homemade taco night with several of our Latino friends and family. Much to my own surprise, a friend of mine asked me about perfumes and I quickly ran upstairs and brought down my NVC perfumes and samples which I had brought with me. Some of the favorites from that night were Pichola, Rahele and Bombay Bling. We all spritzed while the men sat around wondering what the heck was going on. I hope that my friends walked away curious and willing to sample niche perfumes.

Neela Vermeire Creations GIVEAWAY

Throughout my years of buying NVC perfumes, I have received several samples. Who is up to trying their perfumes? Drop me a line sharing a fond summer memory with us and I will let random.org pull a name.

Until next time.

Oodles of fragrant kisses,

Sandra

  1. I have tried a few but surprisingly, not Mohur! I think I still have samples of Pichola, Ashoka and Trayee. Must get them back out and give a try in the heat, I’m pretty sure I have only sampled in the winter. Your trip sounded great, although as I sit her in 90 degree F heat, I’m not nearly as enthused about the sun and heat as you are!!

  2. Have you ever tried Mohur extrait? Swoon worthy! I had a tiny sample. A good friend of mine loves Bombay Bling but I haven’t tried it yet. Best summer memories are the visits to the farmers market which will end in a few weeks.

  4. What an exciting trip that was, Sandra! Living far from your relatives may be challenging but also makes you appreciate the time you spent together more.
The way you describe Ashoka really speaks to me: a perfume of armour often comes in handy.
I haven’t yet tried any of Neela Vermeire perfumes and am grateful for the opportunity 🙂

  7. Heya Sandra,
    DNEM.
Favourite summer memories are mostly centred around the pool at the family home. It was huge with a lap section and a play section. Walking out the back door and 4 steps till you were diving in was wonderful. We could swim before we could run my Mum always said. It’s the only thing I miss about that house really.

  10. What a great trip! I don’t own any NVC and would love to try some. Your comment about your son seeing fireflies reminded me of a long-ago memory. When I was in my 20s, I lived in Princeton, New Jersey, in a historic town with lots of woods and farmland. An area where I liked to walk in the evenings was the Institute for Advanced Studies (if you’ve seen the movie “IQ”, a rom-com involving Albert Einstein, you’ve seen it). There were often so many fireflies dancing over its lawn that you could walk through them like a cloud. Glad you had such a good time with your family!

  11. Summer was spent in or around the municipal pool. Recently visited a friend at her new place which has a pool and a heated one at that so will have to go back next month to swim there again!

      • It’s nice to see you too. I usually read your posts but since I’m 3-4 days behind, I do not comment.
My summer vacation actually always happens in September 🙂 – so it’s still ahead of me. And since I’ll be going to Hawaii, I’ll definitely bring Bombay Bling! with me. My second favorite Trayee and third Ashoka are both for the cooler weather once I come back from my vacation.

  12. Ashoka sounds so lovely, I love fig tree and lotus notes in fragrance. A favorite summer memory of mine is the big birthday parties my mother used to throw for my sister and me. Always giant homemade cakes and homemade ice cream, juicy sticky watermelon slabs, and lots of fun outdoor activities with our neighborhood friends. To date, I have tried Trayee from NVC, and am hearing such positive things about the other creations. I live in the US if this matters and thanks for this chance.

  13. Hi Sandra – long time no see !
I love summer, so I wasn‘t bothered by the long hot months in Vienna and South Germany. But I’m not a pool person, I need the Ocean and we just booked our holiday for end of October. Any plans to visit Vienna ?
Please DNEM, you know NVC don‘t work for me.

    • Hey there Lady Jane Grey! Great to see you here. This summer has been phenomenal for us sun and heat fans. My poor neighbors here melted though. Where are you guys going on vacation? Unfortunately Vienna will have to wait until next year. Any chance you will visit Rotterdam? Sandra xo

  15. My favourite summer memories are of making tubs of ice-cream to eat at night, sitting out on the verandah. And jugs of rose sherbet, lemonade, lassi! Friends, my dad’s students, and neighbours would gather around and we’d sit up late, late, late just enjoyimg the company.
I’m a summer baby so my birthday was pretty awesome too. (Actually now my birthday is in mid-winter but hey!’

    • Hi Jyotsna, I enjoyed reading about your summer memories. I have never made ice cream before but it sure sounds good. I too spent my early years as a winter bday girl, but much prefer it now as a summer bday.

  16. Your holiday must have been fabulous! For swimming I really prefer a pool to the ocean, less need to focus on the surroundings. I enjoy swimming and find it a very meditative way of exercising. And it is really important that kids learn to swim from an early age, here that is no longer the case for a lot of kids sadly.

    • Hi Ingeborg, I too prefer swimming in a pool. Could not agree with you more about children needing to learn how to seim atban early age. They are very serious about it here in the Netherlands thankfully.
