Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 3.9 – 9.9.2018

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

    • I snagged a bottle of Rosa Pop cheaply at Marshall’s and I don’t wear it enough- it’s not a masterpiece but certainly enjoyable!

  2. Woke up, thought Heeley’s Chypre 21 was about right to wake me up after a rotten night’s sleep. Then my Kiste arrived three days earlier than expected, so, of *course* i have to put that one. Because new treasure, and because it’s gorgeous. But that lush and swoony richness really didn’t suit going to the gym…

      • Not for other people, because it was just one spritz and seems to wear quite close, but it was a bit distractingly rich in my own sphere. And wow, is it ever persistent! After the gym, it survived a ten minute swim, a twenty minute sauna, and a good shower leaving still a noticeable trace on my hand. (bloody lovely, though)

      • Aye, Chypre 21 is very much a go-anywhere scent! This was more like pudding for breakfast. Amazingly indulgent, but just wrong in the circumstances. That said, I really don’t worry about other people’s delicate sensibilities when I am in the gym, because nearly everyone is stinking up the place in one way or another. (And my perfume of choice is probably a better thing to encounter than an unwashed cardio-fiend, or a bicep-curling Axe-abuser. But I might be kidding myself.)

  3. Nothing yet today. Yesterday I topped Bois d’Hadrien with Eau d’Hadrien after stepping outside to hot and humid. Last evening switched to Philosykos for a potluck. Today is Labor Day (holiday!) so still commando, probably something zingy because it’s still awfully hot. So ready for the change of seasons.

  4. OMG, I was missing you all !!! Somehow I didn’t receive the notification emails from APJ anymore and couldn’t reach the new website for two months :-/ Now, life is back to normal, I’ve subscribed once again 🙂
Today I’m wearing Eye, Hatshepsut from Charenton Macerations. I got it as a sample with my latest purchase. This one’s not so interesting like their two other scents but the sillage and longevity are good.

  5. I was making samples for a fellow perfumista I met on a Russian perfume thread board that’s why I smell like Pour un homme de Caron, Vol de Nuit, L’Heure bleue, Flower Oriental by Kenzo and a couple others.

      • Yeah, it’s exciting, too. I’m always grateful for an opportunity to try something I heard a lot about or had in my “need-to-try” list, it’s great to be able to share some of my frags with someone, maybe save them some money in case they don’t care for it as much as they thought they would, or send ’em shopping for a perfume.

    • Oh I was making some decants earlier too. Not as fancy as yours, though I also had a Kenzo in my little batch – Jungle L’Elephant. Hubby declared that something smelled very strong when I came downstairs. The little sprays that got on my hands I just rubbed on myself. I smell nuclear.

    • Oh yes, it’s such a pretty perfume. I also seem to forget about it. It’s been so long on my wish list and in the end there are always new perfumes that seem to be more interesting. I think I’d buy it instantly if I’d enter a perfumery and it were on sale but I’m usually on a mission searching for something particular and rarely go for spontaneous buys.

  6. Today I’m mostly at home and I’ve decided to try a sample of Gucci Bamboo. Don’t know why I thought this would be an aquatic scent…it’s a soapy fruity floral.

  7. Today I am wearing Truly Joyful by Kate Spade. It is such a pretty ginger/orange scent with just enough piquant spice, the scent lives up to its name for me–I left the house in such a good humor after spritzing it up this morning. I adore her Truly line.

  8. Well I’m simply loving my new TV. I can watch you tube vids of my other great love; netball. It has occurred to me that many of you here don’t know what netball is, so I apologise for raving about it so much. Anyway it is ‘thunking time’ in my house today and along the way I’m doing some decluttering of my samples. It appears I have used the contents entirely of some vials ,yet still put them back in my ‘sample boxes’. I am currently wearing 4 fragrances…1ml thunked vials
They are; Clandestine Clara and the Bewitching Yasmine by Penhaligon’s.
L’Ether by IUNX and Calypso by Robert Pigoet.
None of these are winners….into the bin.

    • Since you have been talking about netball, I did go and watch some–because the last time I saw it involved me being rubbish at PE in a windy school courtyard in the early 80s. Wow, it’s an entirely different sport when played at a high level. Exciting stuff!

I wish Penhaligons had spent as much time, thought, and expense on the juice as they did on the back stories and packaging. Have they done anything in recent years that matches up to instantly-discontinued Ostara?

      Like

    • Ok, I had to google netball. The next thing I’ll probably do is watch a game on youtube later. Sounds very interesting, especially to a daughter of a former basketball player.
I’d also like to hear your thoughts about the Penhaligon’s portrait line. I’ve only just started to discover Penhaligon’s because they don’t sell it here in my hometown.

  9. Exotic by Boadicea the Victorious. I liked it from the first sniff but it only occured to me today why: it’s as if they mixed Pour un homme de Caron with pepper and incense! Very beautiful, alas, way too expensive.

  10. Deeply irritating day. I went to get my refund application in for the 5 months left on my season ticket when I got back to Edinburgh on Friday evening. After about half an hour of fannying around and doing paperwork, and phoning head office, they decided I had to back to Glasgow to get it signed off (because it was over that office’s limit.) Aye, I *really* wanted to do that journey again, having just stopped going back and forth. Went today. More fannying about. LOADS of it. I was in the office for 45 minutes. And learned that there had been no reason whatsoever to have gone there. Turns out everyone else was wrong. New system. Etc etc blah blah blah. That was four hours of my day wasted today. And I’ll be about 400 quid down on the deal when the money finally comes through. That’s a lot of perfume.

At least I smelled good on a surprisingly hot and stressful day: Guerlain Vetiver. Some clean, serene, airy but not mean green. Just right. Oh, and I had a cracking bench session. Slowly but surely getting some strength back. Still super-light weights, but I’m feeling a difference. And 2 of the 10kg of bodyweight shifted so far. Fingers crossed I can keep both of these on track for the next 18 weeks…

    (wow. verbose!)

    • Damn paper-shuffling, that’s so terribly annoying. Thumbs-up to Vetiver and your workout session, it’s great to regain one’s power back.

      Like

      • isn’t it? especially when it seems so unneccessary…they can take the money fast enough for payment, but giving it back is like moving a mountain three inches to the left.

    • Waaah, enough to make you scream😡. I bloody hate petty bureaucracy. That’s a lot of money to lose out on, too. That’s a whole HEAP of perfume, or something else equally nice. But, well done on shifting the kilos, great start. Wish a few would disappear off my old carcass.

      • I may have made a few pained squawking noises! It is a lot of money… but at least it was money that was already gone, rather than extra money to shell out. It’s somehow a little less painful.

the extra kilos shouldn’t have been on there in the first place. That was me feeling sorry for myself when injured. I had a lot of feelings, and ate them all! I’m looking forward to getting back to the size that feels more comfortable for me.

        Like

    • Oh yuk yuk yuk. Who designed THAT service!?!? And that’s a huge loss. Ouch.
Yay for the workout & shifting kilos!
      I do like Guerlain vetiver.

Hmm. Pretty floral. Reminds me of some other fragrance but I can’t put my finger on it.

      • At work tonight, I thunked my bottle of Ille d’Armore by Fragonard, after deciding this morning that I no longer liked it. There was about 30mls left of a 100ml bottle? And who received this gift? One of my residents, named Bronwyn. Last Saturday I noted she was wearing a perfume, and she replied… ‘Thank you ,No- one ever says anything about my Marousia ,or that they liked it’ My response was’ I didn’t say I liked it’ Over the last few days I’ve been thinking that she might have been hurt by my comment. Bronwyn gave me a big hug and told me that she wasn’t hurt at all.

    • H all. Friday morning has arrived….yippee for some, not so much fun for me. Jyotsna, have things ‘settled down ‘ a little after all the shenanigans of the last month at Parliament House? I have a tiny little drop of Chergui however it is so small it seems to have ‘crystalized’ at the bottom of the vial, so I cannot wear it. Is it orig. Be Delicious your co- working is wearing? Does it suit her? Now ,it will not be a shock to all on this forum that one of the first things I think of when I wake is; What day is it? ie I obs get more excited on Monday through Wed {my weekend}. I’m sitting at my computer, surrounded by many pastic bags of various sizes containing various sizes of sample/ decant vials. As we have discussed recently ,it is time to THUNK ,declutter and keep those which are loved, and use them up.
So guess what kids… I’ve decided that a few of my residents who are very much in their twilight years…even months in one case, and who don’t have relatives visiting are going to benefit from my thunking. So the ladies of my work will be wearing Atelier Cologne Pomelio Paradis. I will be wearing Plum Japonais by Tom Ford.

      Sorry for the long post.

      • It’s so nice of you to give perfume to older residents. I’m sure they’ll appreciate that. Plum Japonais is supposed to be similar to Feminite du Bois, I’ve heard. Is it true?

        Like

        • PJ and FdB definitely have something in common but to me Feminite seems more floral, less sweet and somehow richer than Tom Ford’s variation on the theme. Plum Japonais is spicier and since I’m not big on spice notes, I prefer the French/Japanese predecesor.

          Like

      • What a lovely idea! I don’t know the plum japonais.

Actually, I don’t know if my colleague was wearing the original be delicious. And sorely hope the shenanigans are over but with MT having resigned, anything is possible. The byelection results will give us a better idea. Thanks for asking!

Hope your weekend isn’t too tiring.
        Jyotsna xx

And still playing eeny-meeny in .y head for today as I potter about indecisively…and wonder whether I dare venture over to the new Le Labor in Edinburgh to sample their wares.

        • Well… I did wander in, and it’s a nice little shop. All very carefully crafted wabi Sabi.

Tried the ylang but it’s not for me… Too smooth and yellow, if that makes sense. Had a sniff around the city exclusives. The mousse De Chen is nice, but not nice enough at that price. Ouch! I though the Lys might sing to me, but it’s a bit soapy.

Vetiver, however, may have fallen into my bag after some money fell out. It’s more incense than vetiver, but I do love a mark Buxton incense…

      • cassieflower- yes, work is horrific…we have had 14 different admins in the past 10 years and each one does things differently. I am hoping in the next few weeks things will settle down. For now I am coming home exhausted and hauling myself to bed early. I haven’t been doing much online and apologies to folks for not reading/commenting like I normally do. Next month and half the weekends will involve university applications for the last Marzipan. Hopefully by November my life will start to settle down and go back to its routine 🙂

Haven’t got my daily routine sorted yet with the new job, but here’s what got a spin this week – G Armani’s Diaminds, Dame Black Flower, L’art Vanille, Montale Musk Oud and Timbuktu. Today is Cavalli Just Gold for her. Lasy day house sitting so keen to get back home to more perfume choices from the cupboard!!

  20. I think for today I might just go with something simple like a lavender oil or frankincense oil. I have been wearing the heck out of Heaven and Incense Pure all week because I just needed a no brainer frag to get me through the work week. I may be doing the same for the next few weeks so my SOTD reports will be extraordinarily boring 😦
