Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 10.9 – 16.9.2018

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

  1. Reglisse Noire..in my top five of all time and wonderful in the Fall and spring. This is the one that made me like licorice notes. I am down to the very last drop 😟😖😢

    • I ordered a sample set of the 1000 Flowers collection based on your love of Reglisse Noire. And they are a Canadian company!
      I suspect our tastes in perfume may well be similar as my skin accentuates sweetness as well. And also gobbles up scent like a starving alley cat. I also suspect we are of a similar vintage age wise 😏
      Tried to order The Elephant Bottle Perfume, but the place where I had my 20% discount did not carry it.

      • Oh boy I am a very very very bad influence!!! Yes, Jessica September Buchanan is a Canadian indie perfumer who now lives in Grasse and I adore her work. I have been a fan since her company launched. I have had all from the original collection (Reglisse Noire, Narcotic Flowers, Ode for Him, Love is Sweet and Fleur no 1) and drained them all with the exception of what is left of Reglisse. Sadly the last two are d/c but Fleur no 1 was a beautiful green scent that reminded me of a more youthful version of no 19. I haven’t tried any from the Blue Collection as that is fairly new.

        My skin devours fragrance just like yours! Keep your eyes peeled for Assam of India. If you are in the States it always shows up on a few of the discount sites. I am vintage age too 🙂 and do let me know (good/bad/indifferent..be honest!) your thoughts when you get your sample pack!!!

  2. Eau de Merveilles today, which is not feeling very marvellous. It seems to die a little bit in this cooler weather and feel thinner. It’s not something I wear often, certainly not as often as Snarl wears it. He wears it better too, damn it.

  3. Horrible Monday! This calls for a dose of Musc Ravageur(from sample). This does not ravage my skin at all. On me it comes across as a comforting gingerbread scent. Similar to the Dutch cookies speculaas that I love to nosh on.
    And why do I need comfort you may well want to know?
    Well, I had my hip injected 9 months ago for chronic trochanteric bursitis. The cortisone did it’s magic and poof! no more pain walking, lying on it..etc..etc.
    The shot wore off, as it normally does, after a nice long stretch of 8 months. I complained to my doctor that the pain was back. Had x-rays to rule out arthritis (very good news there tho! Apparently my hip joint and surrounding cartridge is still in ‘fresh from the factory’ shape!
    Ultrasound revealed that yes, bursitis is back.
    So I called for an appointment to have another cortisone injection and was told, rather sheepishly I might add, that there was now a 12 month waiting list. HUH? Welcome to Quebec’s insanity that is called MediCare!!
    Some exciting news! Based on someone’s suggestion after declaring undying love for 70’s era Shalimar yesterday…..I hunted down and purchased a teeny tiny amount of extrait in the Marly bottle of the vintage juice. I think 1/4 oz. Not enough to keep me rolling around in Shalimar glory but enough to perhaps spark some wonderful memories.

  5. We are in the middle of epic rain, it hasn’t stopped for 48 hours. I tried OJ Champaca this morning (lovely) but it’s not holding up, going to need something cozy! Yesterday I pulled out my DSH Perfumes Tunisian Amber body lotion and that was amazing, might need to revisit today. Hard to believe it’s amber weather again since a week ago it was 90 degrees F!

  6. I was cleaning the house the whole day, In Love Again and Grace by CdG were with me (this combo smells a lot like Blouse by YSL). Black currant and roses are perfect for a warm September day.

  8. I packed my stuff quickly on Sunday afternoon and went for a few more days to the coastside. The weather is heavenly and I don’t mind working on my laptop as long as I can swim and lay on the beach a few hours a day. In the closet I found a bottle with a few mls of Acqua di Parma Arancia di Capri and wore it to the beach today. I’ve sprayed all over my blouse so I could smell it the whole day.

  10. Wearing Fort & Manlé Fatih Sultan Mehmed… It helps me to calm my stress. Last night I had to fish some important work but fell asleep as I was very tired after having a heavy meal. Woke up 4 AM and had a panic attack. But thank god I can see the sun.

  11. Dark and soon rainy tonight. Have spritzed on a decant of Costes Noir twice but it has faded completely both times. I plan to switch to Dries van Noten.

  12. Found Tabacco Toscano by Santa Maria Novella hiding way down the back – forgot I had this one. Bought it in Florence in their lovely old store on my first trip to Italy many years ago. Wearing it today with lots of happy memories.

I think today I will go with Pacifica’s Tibetan Mountain Temple (orange, ginger, vetiver but I swear it smells like a spicy, smoky gingerbread cookie…the first blast is resinous but the drydown is very sweet on my skin- it was Pacifica’s first perfume and sadly it has been discontinued). I have brought up from the basement several bottles which I think I will concentrate on for the autumn wearings. This is one of them.

    • Oh Brigette, i really like this scent, had a few decants but sad to see it’s discontinued. This brand is hard to get in aus. I love the initial spice – I get a lot of clove xx

      • LOL! Mr. Marzipan says the basement is my “crack den” because I am often down there mixing up weird essential oil concoctions which look like a drug experiment gone wrong…also, I spray myself in the basement when we are in full blown allergy season because all the Marzipans (except me) have allergies and the perfumes can often bother them. Plus, it is very cool down there year round which is why I store everything down there.

    • Oh that sounds lovely. (There’s a few of the solid perfume versions of ebay here… but, bah, it’s in coconut oil). Looks like it’s back to Bapteme de Feu for me, for a related ginger-orange with a touch of gunpowder rather than clove…

      • Listen, there are /were four folks wearing fragrances in this house…everyone has their “own” stuff and then there is the shared stuff…but there is also the seasonal stuff and the samples and decants that got shuttled back and forth to university when the eldest first went and brought things for her friends to try…..you would NOT believe the things I have found down in the basement….especially the little vials that suddenly appear in strange places -LOL!

        and yes, Tibetan Mountain Temple is more gourmand than spiritual….for spiritual I would recommend Incense Pure.

  17. In a big woosh of Paul Schutze’s Behind the Rain this morning–a dark vetiver chypre-ish with a layer of mastic and a bright line of grapefuit. Ideal for a day that’s switching between bright sun and dark bluster.

  18. The next find in my closet in the house at the coastside is E. Arden’s Green Tea. Today this was my beach scent and I was reminded how much I like it actually. It’s a pity I didn’t bring my Green Tea body cream. It would be perfect for the warm late summer evening.

  20. Currently commando as I plan on an early gym session to fling around a few weights. If I manage not to knock out any innocent bystanders with an errant dumbbell I will celebrate with lavish sprays of Eau Duelle. It should provide sufficient calm when I take my daughter to the driver’s license bureau to have her learner’s permit re-newed for the fifth(?) time! What is it about this current crop of kids? They are not interested in driving. Eldest daughter who is renewing is 33! Apparently just not geared up enough to actually take the test and get a license.
    Every couple of years we renew the learners permit. She drives around a bit. Loses interest. Then rinse repeat. Well to her credit that’s one less car on the road. But the beaurocratic bungle-force of the license bureau is a real test of patience. Hoping Eau Duelle does it’s job!

    • I think much of it is dependent upon whether or not there is good public transportation. I lived my entire life in NYC until the age of 31. I got my license at 25 but then never drove (no need to). Then my husband said he would not be my chauffeur so in my 30s I was forced to drive. After 22 years I still don’t like driving but I do it out of necessity because I live in a small , rural town and there is no other means of transportation. Good luck to your daughter!!!!

      • Agreed. Public transport here in Montreal is really very very good. Parking is abysmal anywhere near the downtown core. And that is her logic. Makes perfect sense actually and that is why a drivers license has very little appeal to her.
        Personally tho, I despise public transit. Have little to no stomach for peoples’ idiosyncracies (polite word for disgusting/rude/cra-cra behaviour) and enjoy even less being squashed shoulder to shoulder, butt to butt with people suffering from varying degrees of Personal Hygiene Disorder.

    • I’ve never had a driving licence. I did finally start to learn in my thirties, when we moved from central London to the countryside but then I kind of lost the power in one leg which made it tricky. But that’s fine… back in a city, and there are excellent buses and taxis aplenty. Snarl drives, but we don’t have a car anymore.

      Hope the licence shenanigans aren’t too time consuming.

    • I also think ride shares have had an effect. I don’t drive, sort of ridiculously at my age and given that I’ve lived in some not pedestrian friendly places, but Lyft has entirely changed the experience of, say, Southern California for me.

      • I hadn’t considered that but suspect you’re right. Not sure if that is a ‘thing’ here yet. Uber made a big impact here until the government intervened and passed legislation rendering the service on par monetarily with established taxi services.
        In any event the Big Girl (eldest daughter) has vascilated yet again declaring that maybe she will ‘wait a while’ and think about it. Well, it saved me a soul destroying afternoon at the license bureau.

  22. Wow ,I’ve just spent an entire half hour reading, and replying to comments in this post. Welcome, Marcella. I wore Spirituelle Double Vanille by Guerlain. It is from a manufacture vial which came to me in Ballarat ,via a perfumista in Perth who had visited Paris earlier this year.
    For a dinner date last evening I wore my 52 ANS. I woke up this morning,
    and can still smell it. I’ve showered ,using a sweet orange soap…smelt lovely in the shower, but can’t smell it on my skin, sadly. I’m wearing Soul today.

  24. Will be wearing a mystery perfume today. I got a package last night and it was in there unlabeled so I tested it. It smells of the Atlantic Ocean which to me has a very unique smell. I traveled quite a bit in my youth and have been to numerous beachy spots all over the world but nothing smells like the Atlantic Ocean. This fragrance captures that and I really like it so I am going to wear it again today. If I find out the name I will let you know. it also reminds me of a muted version of Aramis New West for Women. Does anyone remember that one? It was probably the first aquatic…it was so fresh and original and when I wore it NO ONE smelled like me (kinda like when I first wore Giorgio and when I first wore Angel before all these scents became ubiquitous and everyone was suddenly wearing them and every company started copying them….in the very early stages when they were unique and groundbreaking and no one else knew of them or wore them were magical).

  25. SOTN 1899 from Histoires de Parfum – this is awesome! Was trying to find something like Intrigant Patchouli and this one came up. Then I remembered I had a lovely sample of this from Lillibet. It’s super -warm, spicy, amber, pepper and vanilla. Floating around me after just a little spray on my hand.

  27. I’m doing a comparison test today with Montale Jasmine Full on one arm and Al Rehab White Full on the other. For the first couple of hours they are incredibly similar with the Al Rehab just sweetening slightly after that. The projection is slightly better with the Montale as it’s got alcohol and is an atomiser, while Al Rehab is in rollerball format. But I must say, if I didn’t know any different I’d be hard pushed to decide which is better. If I was recommending a straight up jasmine I’d have to say that the absolute cheapie is just as good, it’s a tiny fraction of the price of Montale.

  29. My SOTD was Oudh Infini by Dusita Parfums which was pretty nice, and then I decided to try some Black Afgano on me. What can I say, I’m not impressed. I don’t trust first impressions, – good or bad, they may be deceptive, so I’ll give it a few chances and see what happens.

      • Portia, I can’t explain the returning desire to hit some heavy-weight champion of a perfume right before the nighttime. I once put some Knowing on before sleep and it kept me up! Just like a proverbial moth to the flame 😦

      • Brigitte, I haven’t yet my paws on Fleur de Lalita and Erawan but the other five are exceptionally beautiful. As you might have already noticed, I have a huge passion for vintage perfumes, and I find that Dusitas have this vintage feel about them. I liked them all, especially IIssara, the gorgeous fougere that reminds me of a pine forest. Le Sillage Blanc is another masterful creation by Pissara. I wouldn’t be the first one to say that it’s made in the same vein as Germaine Cellier’s Bandit but I actually prefer the newcomer to the vintage. Oudh Infini takes the bronze. As for La douceur de Siam and Melodie de l’amour, I like them both quite a lot, – LDdS is quite close to vintage Joy, – it’s just that I’m still getting used to white florals. Besides, the quality of the materials is outstanding. I hope you’ll get to try them and tell me what you think of them all.

  31. Last Friday I wore Molecule 01 to the office. Since then every day I can smell the remains of it on… something at my desk – and every day I wish I’d worn it instead of anything I’m wearing, no matter how much I like it. Should I probably wear it again tomorrow?

  32. I am going to give some serious skin time to In Air de Bretagne today. I almost blind bought this one for the eldest Marzipan because of the name. After receiving a decant the other night from a good friend I kinda wish I had. Not only is the juice phenomenal but I love the bottle. I am really getting into sea/ ocean type fragrances.

  34. I’ve just seen something that I need to try. It’s called Ylang Ylang Espresso by a company called Floral Street. Their frags sound interesting so gonna try the discovery set. Aaaand, they are on the cheap end of the market. Aaaand the bottles are lovely. Did I mention that they also come in 10ml bottles?

  35. Update: I don’t know WHAT happened, there I was just having a browse on the site, minding my own business and not bothering anybody when suddenly and without warning a lickle bottle of YYE jumped into my basket and money disappeared from my account. It’s a mystery is what it is😉🤷‍♀️

  36. Grim day ahead. A miserable dental appointment the outcome of which I can guess. Probably going to lose my second implant 😞. Eighteen years ago I spent a bundle of cash to have implants put in at the bottom furthest back two molars. Was delighted at outcome. Apparently I have outlived them. One was removed two years ago and judging by the feeling I have this one will go today. Probably not enough bone left!?? I dunno. Ugh!
    Will wear Gypsy Water. My name for it is Tap Water. On my skin it behaves thusly: barely discernible scent. Zero projection. Aaaand the ever so slight scent, yup, you guessed it is Gone in 60 Seconds.
    One of those. Luckily it’s just a small decant. I’m so annoyed with it I’m tempted to fling it out of the window in the general direction of cars driving buy. Maybe it will get run over and die!
    Oh dear. Crappy mood alert. Better go before I harsh everyone’s mellow.

  37. I overslept this morning. When I was ready to go out I grabbed the first thing I could.Liberally sprayed.
    I kept getting something nice and spicy. Received 2 compliments.Still didn’t know what I had sprayed.
    Got home and looked at the bottle…..It was Habit Rouge.Mystery SOTD solved.

I couldn’t find a reply to the thread on Carnal Flower, that beautiful beast😍, but are you aware that it comes in a perfect little 10ml size that’s not too spendy? It will last for ages with occasional use, like mine did. I’m due for a repurchase soon. “Hellooo Santa” 🎅🏼

        • Not aware! Now fully aware! No need to wait for ho-ho-ho man. Another one of those birthday things coming up later this month for moi. Except I already bought myself a vintage Shalimar extrait (maybe I bought two ☺️) to congratulate myself. Hmmm, do I wait till 🎄for the beauty of CF? 🧐. And I’m pretty sure you are all sorts of fabulosity. I know these things!

        • Also, what perfume to wear to work. 2 hour train ride. Then working with seniors.
          Allow me to help if I may be so bold. Firstly you need two perfumes. One for train. Low sillage, short longevity. May I suggest Gypsy Water a.k.a Tap Water for the train. You will smell very quietly nice for 20 minutes. YMMV. Not likely to offend or even be noticed by other travellers.
          On the other hand if fellow riders are particularly brutish, smelly, foul-tempered and rude. Annoy them in equal measure with copious sprays of Secretion Magnifique. Carry a baseball bat. The oldies at your work won’t mind due to their diminished olfactory abilities. (Sorry seniors! I’m one of you (almost). No offence.) They will say you smell wonderful, just like their favorite scent from back in the day.

            • Well, good point. Guess she will just have to use the baseball bat unprompted. So Secretion Magnifique smells good on your skin. I’m guessing your skin is made of fairy dust, unicorn powder, marzipan (which I think I was weaned on, being Dutch) and some gorgeous silky chocolate! I’ve actually never smelled SM. Wouldn’t mind to try it tho. It seems one of those scents that any perfumeophile worth his/her diploma must smell!

            • Good morning. So I’ve just nearly spent 45 minutes reading this entire forum.… gosh we cover a lot of , don’t we? So far ,we have ,in our midst, a chemical seller, a theatrical person, an interior designer/ caterer, fitness guru, a Drag Queen and an aged care nurse. The globe is covered rather well ,also…Australia, Canada, Croatia, Ireland and Scotland. Feel free to add to this list ,if you haven’t so far {no obligation}. All of us ‘bonding’, becoming a little online family, based on our love of perfume ,scent, cologne!!! I can still smell remnants of my Ostara, from yesterday, however today is going to wintry with top of 10C. I’m expecting work to be a bit stressful, so I need a fragrance which gives me focus, yet covers me in a warm blanket. I will decide in an hour after my shower and lunch.

      • Jose Eisenberg is Italian but his brand used to be called Eisenberg Paris, I’m not exactly sure where they are based now but it’s definitely Europe. Eisenberg also sells cosmetic products as well as perfumes, I guess they could be found in shops similar to Sephora.

      • Cassie, it’s a leathery leather with fruity notes (plum, more specifically). I’ve already mentioned on a different SOTD thread that it makes me think of Cuir de Russie but Chanel is more forthright.

  39. I wore Byredo Flowerhead today when I went shopping with my daughter for the things she’ll need in her student’s accomodation during her last year at the university. I needed something fresh and clean and Flowerhead is pure jasmin on my skin.

    • Flowerhead sounds lovely. And glad to hear that you can actually smell it.
      Is it soft? A quiet scent? Kinda close to the skin?
      I’m asking because I also have Bal d’afrique which is very pretty. Also not very tenacious but at least I can smell myself.
      Maybe just Gypsy Water is the odd man out.

      • Yes, I’d say it’s soft. I can smell it when I put my wrist closer to the nose and maybe around my head in the air for one-two hours. Then it’s gone. I have this problem with Byredo perfumes – they don’t last long enough.

        • Glad to have that confirmed. I thought I had contracted some sort of weird olfactory syndrome. Contracted in some shady pharmacy surreptitiously sniffing non-tester bottles. Bottles that were previously subjected to others’ surreptitious sniffs. A new weird disease. And I was patient zero. Phew!

            I’m an eighties babe, went to high school and college back then. I’m used to perfume you applied in the morning and you could still smell it in the evening 😀

  40. Welcome to Friday morning ,folks. I’ve woken to a gloriously sunshiney day… blue skies, birds chirping and a slight ‘warmth’ on the skin, however a long tee shirt still needed. I am not quite decided on my perfume for work yet, so I’ve applied a little dose of the decant of Dior I love Dior, until I get ‘public ready.
    I was also wondering, if each of us could[if willing to do so…no obligation] state the name of City/ Town they live in , and their ‘general’ field of occupation?

  41. Up with insomnia….test drove Blackbird YS6-O last night…I smelled Laughy Taffy Banana candy combined with a steam iron and Mr. Marzipan smelled pineapple. This fragrance is very intriguing. May watch some TV and try to go back to sleep. Will contemplate what to wear/test in the morning…either Acqua Moto or Acqua di Sale….two fragrances new to me ….sent to me by my beach lover friend! She has a beautiful fragrance collection and is turning me on to ocean inspired scents.

      • Yes, she has been so generous sending me all the stuff that she really really loves….and turning me on to all of her favorite scents- However, I have to say that even with an application of unscented carrier oil to try to make my skin less scent devouring neither one of them made it past early afternoon. So on my skin the longevity was not so good which is sad because they were both lovely….did not get seaweed at all from either one.

        • I have same problem, Brigitte. I tried this little trick a while back and it seems to affix the he scent so it lasts a bit longer. If you have any matching body lotions for your fumes, pour a glob into your palm and spray some perfume into it and mix it by rubbing hands together lightly. Then apply and allow to settle a moment. The spray over it like bejeezus. Any unscented lotion or oil works just as well. The problem is dry skin, basically, and the lack of surface oil doesn’t give the fragrance molecules anything to grab onto.

          • Thanks! Yes I do have dry skin. So dry I can slather my little body in oil and it’s absorbed in a nano second. I usually spray liberally which is why I thunk my bottles and decants so fast. But I wanted to save my new acquisitions for the Marzipans to try when they return from University

    • Eee gads! Joining you on the insomnia Brigitte! Did you watch scary movies late into the night? Drink coffee after 1:00 in the afternoon? I did neither and I don’t like scary movies in any event. But got nailed with the insomnia. Fell asleep briefly shortly before dawn, but got up at 5:30 to give my Little Girl (youngest daughter) a lift to the metro. And…loads of work and driving were done today. Brain dead now.

      • It was cool….my friend who sent it to me says it smells more like jasmine to her on the drydown but for me it smelled like a hot iron or rather the steam from a hot iron which reminded me of both my mom (who would iron numerous clothes back in the day) and my hubs who used to always iron his work shirts himself.

  44. CSP Aqua Motu on one side of the body and Profuma Roma Aqua di Sale on the other. They are both supposed to be oceanic/seaweed scents and are supposed to be similar. AM is very light and smells a bit of coconut and milk to me (not getting the seaweed at all) AdS smells of powder and flowers to my nose and is lasting much longer. I don’t find them identical but they both read sweet on my skin. The AM also has immortelle flower which reads like maple syrup on my skin and I love this (the essential oil which I have worked with is gorgeous..tricky to work with because it is very very thick and sticky and needs to be diluted in a carrier oil but so worth it…love it!!!)

    • Oh, so you’re wearing both perfumes today, each on one side of the body? That’s an interesting concept. I wonder which one will win throughout the day…
      I’ve tried Aqua di Sale a few years ago and I remember that after the initial freshness a woody sweetness remained with a strong bitter salty accord which I could not handle. Unfortunately.

      • They were not as oceanic as some fragrances I have worn in the past (Aramis New West for Women is one that comes to mind). But they were lovely but sadly short lived on my scent eating skin. It is the evening and I am home now so I am testing her holy grail of L’Attessa (a beautiful dry rooty iris) and Orris Tattoo which smells very sweet but more fruity sweet (not lipstick like to my nose)

          • Honestly I really like all different notes. But my friend is a huge fan of iris so she sent me both of these in samples. L’Atessa is one of her all time favorites. It is definitely a dry rooty iris. Having worked with orris butter (I used it in a blend I once made) I really do like that smell. so if that’s your thing then you would like L’Atessa. It’s pricey, though, so I am just going to enjoy my sample and not even contemplate a bottle.

  45. Scentless so far. Will remedy post shower. Pet peeve #1- days that spin out of control. Pet peeve #2- clients that inexplicably and annoyingly change dates for presentation. On a Friday. Pet peeve #3- related to #2- having to go careening on highways under construction/repair/or otherwise stupidly detoured to pick up samples for #2. Final Pet Peeve #4- getting road raged at. Yes. It happened. Again.
    Almost forgot: Pet Peeve #5- which was directly implicated in the occurrence of #4- highways that have speed limit signs of 70 km/hr on one side of the road and 90 km/hr directly opposite on the other side of the road.
    If you followed all of this you are decidedly sharper than I am. Congratulations. You get points.

      • Cuir Beluga. Totally inappropriate for the weather today. And with my oven on. In answer to your question, most of my days are pretty chill. I try not to let things get to me anyhow. Life is too short and my preferred way to roll is to have fun living it. Be goofy, silly, irreverent sometimes. I really don’t take myself too seriously and on account of that I am pretty good at letting things roll right off me. Pfft! Gone! Minor distraction in an otherwise great life! And you could never annoy me. We’re on the same team in life. I’ll be home working on the weekend, preparing for Monday. But that’s just fine 😉

      • It is pretty unnerving. I’ll give you that. But as luck would have it, the cops were in an unmarked car, in the median, patrolling the highway lane narrowing business.
        The moron was punching my driver’s side window, yelling at me to get out. I laid on the horn and did not let up. It drew the police’s attention who grabbed the stupid muck-face and hauled him away. I win! 🤗🤗

        • What is WRONG with people who think this is acceptable? This kind of behaviour should result in an immediate driving ban, on top of whatever other offence, and it is an offence, they have committed. That might cool their jets for a while (though probably not).

          • No clue. My theory is that they believe they are the center of the universe. The world revolves around them, to please them and to make their lives comfortable and not too difficult. Unfortunately, things that get in the way of this type of mentality cause instant outrage. ie: you’re making my life difficult now, I’m pissed with the road work, it’s not going my way! Then they lash out. Honestly, in a way I feel sorry for them. Such angst-filled existences. Life just doesn’t always work out easily. Not for anyone. There are always figurative road blocks. We all get them. So, just get over yourself and deal with it like a rational, thoughtful human being. Truly, their lives would be soo much better. Huh. But what are ya gonna do eh? 🤷🏼‍♀️

I was rearranging my perfume drawer (it started with taking a few pictures) and, naturally, I was spritzing some frags that aren’t worn very often: Fleurs de Rocaille, Chanel №19, Eau de Joy, Eau Sauvage (the regular version and Cuir Fraicheur) and something else I can’t recognize on my skin. Surprisingly, the perfume cloud they’ve all created smells rather nice.

          • LOL! except my fingers are the size of a child 🙂 I don’t know if it is a wordpress thing or I just don’t know what I am doing on the phone. Right now I am typing on the computer…on a keyboard…this is so much more my speed …plus I can type really really fast!!! as opposed to the one finger typing on the phone (I can’t do thumbs so I use my right pointer finger…I used to talk into the phone but the mini Marzipans shamed me out of that maneuver….it was faster and easier though)

          • Somehow I have managed to retain the typing skills that were taught to me in middle school in a required typing class for all seventh graders. My kids are amazed that I can still type so fast without even looking at the keyboard!

          • Neva- I was 12 when I took that typing class in junior high school and the teacher was extraordinarily mean spirited so I did not enjoy it at all…but now I am so grateful as those skills have served me well for over 40 years!!! I completely agree with you- very useful skill!!!

            • Girls, I didn’t learn to type until my early 20s and my tutor was very impressed with my typing style. She once asked me if I played the piano (I didn’t, cos of horrid piano teacher) but I played accordion in my youth so maybe she was on to something ☺️

  53. Hello All, It is nearly 10pm Saturday evening. It is cooooolllllllllllllldddddddddddd. So cold ,in fact that when we were leaving work,at 9pm it was SNOWING. I got home, and jumped into a lovely warm shower. Feels soooooooooooooo good. Now I’m wearing Costume National Soul., and drinking a whiskey flavoured coffee.

      • Are you somewhere in my kitchen??? Seriously! Unusually for me, I made whipped cream last night to smother what are getting really close to the end of summer strawberries. I was required to coddle my favorite fruit. No choice. Maybe I didn’t even want to. But probably I did.
        So I had left over whipped cream in my fridge this morning. This was the first thought that occurred to me when I woke up. I rocketed out of bed and had coffee with an enormous whipped cream island floating around languidly. Yum yum yum. I freaking LOVE whipped cream!!!

        • I’m a lazy cook , my whipped cream comes out of a can. And after I read your comment, I too now am drinking a cup of coffee with whipped cream…alas no whiskey this time because, 1 ,it is before midday, and 2 I have to go to work this arvo.
          Might I suggest another treat for your strawberries? Cut them in halves, removing the green ‘bits. Place in a container ensuring they are not too on top of each other. Pour in a dash, or two of Baily’s Irish Cream, and pop on lid. Place in the fridge to let them macerate. Minimum of 2 hours, but best 6 hours. Delicious.

          • Oh that does sound good. I love what strawberries do when you ignore them. They kinda soften and melt into their surrounding liquid and then the liquid is all strawberryish tasting too…sold. Will try tomorrow.
            Since you mentioned liqueur here’s a treat my family always had on Christmas, birthdays, Sundays, wednesdays, sort of whenever. 1) large amount of whipped cream (Dutch people are obsessed with it!) 2) Advocaat liqueur (a Dutch liqueur, brandy based, enriched with egg yolk) Now quit dry heaving! It’s gorgeous stuff. Trust me. So you put an obscene amount of whipped cream into a bowl and poor over a very generous amount of Advocaat, very generous. It’s super thick stuff and sits on top of the cream. A very small gentle bit of stirring. Then you will have alternating stripes of pale yellow Advocaat and whipped cream. You eat it all. Then make more. And eat that too. It is insanely delicious. Your welcome.

  54. Work. Gym with my Big Girl. Shower. Got stuff done. Post shower more summery, beachy goodness. 4160 Tuesday What I Did On My Holiday. Probably one of my favorite beach/sea scents. Sel Marin, Aqua Motu didn’t inspire me. Wood Sage and Sea Salt came close. Would like to give Air de Bretagne and Amongst The Waves a try. My goodness it is HOT here! 29C feels like 37! Not complaining.

      • I hope you like WIDOMH Brigitte. I love beach scents as well, however, I am mighty picky about which beach I would like to smell. Caribbean? No. Costa Rica? Guess again. I want/need a perfume that brings to mind the beaches of Maine. We go and have gone every summer for decades. Some years just the nuclear family, other the whole extended pack. There is something so grand about the smell of Maine’s beach air. Briny, humid, sand, seaweed. Of course all of those. But the air smells ‘big’? Hard to describe, obviously ☺️, but it’s similar to the quality of air after a monstrous thunderstorm. Full of negative ions, I think. Maine’s beach scent: expansive, rejuvenating…oh my! I just love, LOVE it. So far WIDOMH gives me the closest impression of this elusive scent. There is just the tiniest bit of sun tan lotion vibe, but nothing to detract from the rugged north eastern sea smell. More just something to soften it. It really is lovely.

  55. Marcella, I cannot cope with heat like that. 27C is my happy place. I promised a work colleague that today I’d wear L’Artisan’s Chasing Butterflies… however it is simply too cold. I’ve decided it is going to be a THUNKING day….,3mls of Plum Japanois. Also going to take the vial of I love Dior to apply to one of my ladies.

    • Awww! So sorry it’s freezing there. But thunking will warm you up. I can’t say I adore the intense heat and humidity but our winters are so wretchedly, cruelly soul destroying. So endless. Starts getting gross mid-November. No sign of life till May 😢. Days and days of temps in the minus 20’s. Windchills consistently in minus mid 30’s. Exposed skin freezes in one second. Tears freeze. Toes fall off. Nose hairs freeze. Your breath turns to ice. And snow. Lots of it. Hip high. Waist high. And then ice. Make. It.Stop. I HATE it. Using a strong word there, hate. But it’s true. I get stressed just thinking about it. So yeah, I’ll take the heat!

        • Yes, in fact I know I would Saffy!! A couple of my friends spent extensive time there, both working and playing. Based upon their experiences I quickly cottoned on to the fact that not only would I love it there, I probably would not want to leave. Just one thing…..you guys have loads of weird, big, ugly creepy crawlies🕷🦂🐍. Ick. Not my thing. And sharks! Huge ones, lots of them! It’s like a shark convention down there! I would plan on spending the majority of my times outdoors, in nature. Swimming at those stunning beaches. Hiking in the outback. How would I manage? 😲

Ok, I’ll try the sample of Amouage Imitation Woman! It says it’s an “olfactive imitation of New York City’s multiculturalism in the 70s, a floral aldehyde”. I’m gonna listen to some 70s disco music and dance in the kitchen while cooking.

  59. Dans Tes Bras this morning. That psychedelic violet note in the opening is so silly. But I love it. I detect an occasional undercurrent of licorice. Then it transitions into the a clean-ish, sweaty, very honest scent of perspiring skin. A ladies skin. Her bosom perhaps.Whilst sitting under a tree after some gardening. It’s incredibly poignant and achingly beautiful. Very real and oh so human. It humbles me.

        • Brilliant turn of phrase. I claim it for use in Canada. No one else can use it. I’ll patent it. It’s that good. You would need a cattle prod to get me into a sauna. I can’t breathe in there. Who on earth ever thought it would be fun to enter a tiny wooden box, naked. Place your buttocks where other buttocks have committed all sorts of unspeakable acts. Then throw water on hot rocks and try to breathe in air that has been transformed into what is basically water. Really? And this is a good thing? My gym is equipped with a stretching rack. I’m sure you’d like that as well. Lie down naked on a rough wooden plank. Have wrists and ankles tied and attached to iron rings. I turn the wheel in an effort to release all the your tight muscles and loosen up those kinks. Sometimes I get carried away and you might dislocate a shoulder or two.
