Hi APJ,
A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.
You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.
SOTD 1.10 – 7.10.2018
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Go To It Crew.

Oh Jackie B, I love Cuir Beluga! Such a fine leather. My daughter gave me a decant. She finds it harsh!?? I don’t get that at all on me. How does it play out on you?

I find it soft and vanilla-like, not harsh at all. Dries down the same, does not change much.

I don’t know if you’re getting the leather as well, but yes to the vanilla. And def soft, luscious. Not harsh. Her nose must be broken. Or she was in a rotten mood. I’ll bet on the second scenario

Laziness? I get that. Sometimes it’s just too much. Standing in front of your collection deciding what you’re in the mood for. Sometimes spray and go just works. Less mental energy required. I’m thinking of trying this with the vintage Shalimars I bought. I’m really loving it and it always feels just right.

SOT business trip – Tiempe Passate, Antonia’s Flowers. It’s a beautiful creamy tangerine and I haven’t worn it since last winter. I couldn’t get enough of it today and during the meeting I noticed that I was paying more attention to the smell of the perfume than on what I was saying. No one noticed, good for me.

Great choice, Neva! I love when a perfume does that, and I’m pretty sure you were saying all the right things, too.

I wore Antonia’s Flowers but the one just called Antonia’s Flowers in the 80’s. We were on a family vacation in West Coast, Florida. I was bowled over by all the lushly landscaped, open air shopping centres. I tried AF there and immediately bought it. Very floral, very pretty. Guess I was more ladylike back then. Still keep the bottle as a momento. Happy times the were.

I wore that one too. I had the pure perfume in a huge 1 oz bottle which I still have. I use it now to fill and blend my e.o.s because it has a huge opening with a nice accompanying stopper. Antonia’s Flowers was a gorgeous freesia, right?

I got a sample of Tiempe Passate two years ago. And immediately ordered a FB. I wasn’t familiar with Antonia’s Flowers before because American perfumers are rarely sold in Europe and you don’t get to know their perfumes easily. You mentioned that American perfumes are rarely sold in Europe. This reminds me of something my mother used to say. I said it was an American perfume and she replied well, it smells very French!

Have you tried Russian Oud, Melanie? Prior to my ‘ignore oud’ declaration I ordered a sample of this. I tried it today and Holy Schnickles! Mega-watt power. Funky, barnyard opening-all oudy and musky, develops into an incredible rush of resiny, honeyed incense with oud still starring, but just. A very feral, animalic note joins the party and it is all sorts of extravagant richness. Incredible presence with personality plus. It’s a bit OTT for me, but I do love it. I’ll save it for when it’s -30 with biting winds and blizzard conditions. Which probably means I’ll be wearing it soon and often.
Not masculine, but would be lush on a confident man. Stunning. Do try it if you get the chance!

What? A new package? I’m so happy because we’ll never run out of material for chatting 🙂
Sel Marine is beautiful, but on my skin it is a citrus scent, no sel at all. And no longevity, unfortunately.
I can’t help with the Eau Legere. I know BV and Eau de Velours only. But there’s another one for my “to try ” list.
What minis did you get???
LikeLike
I am going to retest Sel today…last night it smelled salty to my nose. The minis are one of the Omnia but not sure which one (I will have to investigate and also figure out how to open it!!!), Juicy Couture (I think?) and Versace Bright Crystal….they were sent for my Christmas ornament project but they are all full so I will have to drain them first.
LikeLike
Sel Marin was just salt on me as well. Very disappointing. Did not remind me of North-east coast beaches at all. They are much more than just salt!
LikeLike
It’s salt and citrus….very nice but lasts less than an hour on my skin

Same here. Did you feel that it evoked/reminded you of being at the ocean? I

hmmm….not sure…maybe? the only one that really evoked my ocean (Atlantic and the beaches of my youth) was Secretions.

Oh, wow! That’s very interesting.

I should probably look into that. And yes. Same on Atlantic. The only one that came close for me is What I Did On My Holidays.
LikeLike
Let me know what you think about Sel Marine today.
You should hold the Omnia mini with two fingers (more would hardly fit on the glass surface) at the glass sides of the bottle and pull the rest up. I had the same dilemma with my Amethyste mini but there is a drawing depicting how to open it on the box, which you probably don’t have 😉
LikeLike
Doesn’t last😫😫😫
I used my new muscles to open the Omnia and then decanted into a sprayer. It smells like freesia. I am not familiar with the Omnias at all. I am assuming it’s a flanker?
LikeLike
There are too many flankes of Omnia. You can tell by the color of the glass which one it is.
LikeLike
The top is silver and the glass is light …a lavender/silver hue? it isnt what I was expecting it to smell like.
LikeLike
That’s probably Amethyste, the same that I have. It’s just one of many flankers, nothing special. Nothing comes close to the initial Omnia. It was such a beautiful woody perfume.

SOT Bed isGuerlain Cherry Blodsom, because Ineeded something pretty. Even a massive dose of prescription painkillers dosn’t really wok for long. I was diagnosed with shingles by the third doctor I saw. It hurts and the rash is under my foot, so very unfortunate that the diagnosis came late, I missed the 72 hrs window where anti-viral medication would have been an option.
Tried Amouage Opus VIII from a sample. This one is nearly only incense to my nose, no floral. It just does not open up and develop much on my skin. The soft dry down, very close to skin was the best part.

This sounds lovely. I love a good patchouli.
the molinards have been on my radar for a while. I owned Molinard de Molinard years ago and loved it. And then there was another Molinard that was supposed to be the original Angel (it was Thierry Mugler’s mother’s signature scent) the name escapes me at the moment but I had a decant of it six years ago and it was good. It’s the current Molinards that I have been eyeballing..the single note ones…like Musc, Amber and Patchouli. Over the years they have changed the bottles but the current ones that sell massively discounted online are in a purple bottle…
Good luck with facing the day!!!

She’s a Weimaraner, what do you expect? Divas of the dog world. And rightly so. Have you ever seen a more gorgeous colouring?

We’ll give her a proper shower room. Might she accept an indoor swimming track as substitute for the canal?

You ask her. She might get mad at me.

Yeah , my school principal thought I was ‘special’ too. She may have been on to something. But I just thought she was a b!tch.

Aftelier Parfum de Maroc with Aesop Marrekech Intense today. Beautiful day. Was planning on spending the day cooking but vampires, skellies and zombies call.
Have a lovely day Everyone😘

Is the Marrakesh Intense worth purchasing if I already own a bottle of the orig. Marrakesh?

Hi Saffy! I was wondering where you were!
I would say not – I got this as a gift. I found it very linear and way too sweet. So I always layer it with a sandalwood, or oudh. I haven’t tried the original but I may well like it better? Intense smells too much like gulab jamun to me.

What do you do with your bunch of monsters, Jyotsna? Decorate the house?

Neva- I’m making cards, halloween decorations, and invites to our Hallowe’en/Spring tea. It used to be my annual Spring tea but for the kast few years it’s been Halloween themed. I have an eight year old!
I’m starting early this year.

Jyotsna, are you having an early Halloween or drawing the baddies?

Diana- drawing baddies as decorations plus practicing faces for some face painting at my party. It’s way too light to go trivk or treating here. I grew up in the US and LOVE Hallowe’en,

Lots of Stash for work… I will shower soon, and think I will apply Tabu. When I walked in the door ,I could smell hubby’s scent he is wearing for night shift; YSL M7 Oud Absolu.

On the theme of use it up, or don’t let the good stuff gather dust…Cuir de Russie extrait, super-vintage.
For my very thrilling day of not going out on the planned walk (it’s windy as hell), and instead lolling about with the floof cat, while little cat chatters on the windowsill and gets over excited mistaking blowing leaves for small creatures. I might stir myself enough to make a pot of tea and read something vaguely study related. Or maybe not.

I love your combo Crikey – mighty perfume, kitties, tea and a book. The day is saved 🙂

Nah, don’t bother with the study stuff. It would be more entertaining to watch little puss being silly. Is C de R really leathery? I want a full on leather that smells like it just came from the tannery but it has so far eluded me. It’s windy here too and now wet as well🙄

I think you should probably have a sniff of Zoologist’s Rhinocerous–that’s quite a beastly aromatic leather. CdR has a softening layer of aldehydes and florals, and the older ones are much deeper on the leather than the newer ones–but it’s more warm saddle leather than raw tannery. What do you make of Knize 10? Too elegant? I thought LM’s Hard Leather was annoyingly harsh–not in terms of leatheriness but rough overdosed synthetics.

Sample! (I haven’t taken leave of my senses entirely.) There are a few things in there that I’ve been wanting to try. Knize is on the way right now as well as yet another iris/leather combo. Will see how they work. Thank you for your kind offer but you have been way way too generous already. I won’t be a greedy beeatch😉

Oh Rhinoceros…be warned Cassie! The first blast felt like a slap on my face. The same goes for Rien. I’m probably too weak for such fragrances 😀

Oh. Have you ever tried Bandit? Mean green and new leather. Not a soft suedey handbag. Or Rien, the Etat Libre de wotsit scent? Incense leather, much dryer than the sweeter, floral leathers above.

Yep, tried Bandit. Rien, nope, haven’t tried it. Thanks for all the suggestions. I will get bizzy. So if anyone says “I smell heifer” it might just be me.

A few spritzes of Osmanthe Yunnan for my meditative walk in the woods this morning. But it was in vain. The misty wood smelled very strong of wet autumn leaves and evaporating warm, humid air, and then it started to rain…The combination of smells was heavenly. I had to force myself to leave because I’ve enjoyed it much more than I was hoping for.
Will probably give OY another try tomorrow.
