SOTD 8.10 – 14.10.2018

Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 8.10 – 14.10.2018

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Commando…. two days in a row.. I just spent an hour and a half cleaning the bathtub…all that scrubbing and my arms are sore! Now I am making bacon for the last mini Marzipan at home.. I smell of baking soda and bacon.

      • I’m liking it a lot so far, but I want to spend more time with it. Like Gardoni’s Bogue scents, there’s masses of interest going on in there as things unfold, appear, dance away, and then sneak back around from the peripheries. There’s a big smoky start, but I think it’s far less ferocious than a lot of the reviews are suggesting. I don’t know if I am a monster-tamer, my nose or taste is weird, but this felt like a very comfortable rather than a challenging wear.

          • Neva and Cassie and Marcella- send your men folk over here and I will train em right! LOL! Honestly, Mr. Marzipan was independent when I met him and was used to doing things on his own. Plus, we raised our kids in a gender neutral zone..while my son can cook and clean, the girls were taught some rudimentary mechanics and also mowed the lawn when they were home. We are all about being practical because you never know where life will take you and you want to have skills, right/

  4. No perfume early in the day. Had to see a doctor again, I was in no way able to work yet. So I put on a little Korres White tea, Bergamot, Freesia. Just enough to block out the smell of disinfection liquids and such. So, on the mend (less painkillers), but still not well!

The weather was glorious today, would have been perfect for a long walk, sad to stay indoors.

Will put on some Dior Ambre Nuit and hope for some good sleep for once.

    • I missed your previous report on the sickness/injury but I hope you’ll get even better soon and will still get your share of “perfect for a long walk” weather.

I really like Ambre Nuit, but after I was done with my decant, I cannot make myself to buy the next one because I want a bottle, but I cannot buy a bottle because they don’t sell those more reasonable 40 ml bottles in the US, and I’m still waiting for the occasion to get it from Europe.

I have the 40 ml bottle of Ambre Nuit, it’s the perfect size for me. Mine was bought in London, but I think Portia said they come cheaper in Paris /in euros.

  5. Being lazy today, watching old James Bond movies. SOTD Eye, Hatshepsut from Charenton Macerations, a balsamic musky scent feeling rather sweet.

    Like

      • Good question. I was in Egypt once, before I stumbled down the rabbit hole, so I’ve only tried some perfumes and didn’t buy anything. They were too sweet and heavy for my taste. Eye Hatshepsut hardly fits into what I’d call Orientals. It has a freshness(I suppose papyrus) that gives it a twist and it feels modern.

      • Hi Neva,
You know I have no idea. It’s one of the weird AGs that feels like it should be in some other line. Quite masculine leaning. It’s a dark green smell, lightly bitter and softening out to a lovely leather woods dry down. I’ve been wearing it for nearly 6 hours and the musks are making decided well worn noises. They do seem to have it in the last bottles, not sure if it’s made the jump though.

I think it might have had something to do with going to China and not being allowed to take perfume on part of the trip. So I went about 3 weeks without wearing it, and sort of lost the morning routine of getting some out and spraying it on.

Since then I’ve been wearing some when I remember, but there have been a lot fo days when I just forget. This week I wore Hermès Concentré d’Orange Verte one day, but that’s it, really.

It’s been at least 20 years since I’ve smelled it so I can’t determine 100 percent if anything is changed. I sometimes feel that vintage perfumes that I buy on ebay are slightly diluted but I’m not sure. For this reason I only buy atomizers, still they’re not so strong as I remember them. And I just can’t wrap my head around it. So I just don’t purchase-LOL! But that’s me. I think for most folks the enjoyment they derive from said perfume is well worth the money and I honor that 😉

  22. Today I tried Tom Ford Soleil Blanc. The Bourke St mall is such a lovely place, I’m always spoiled for choice but today the single white bottle amongst all of the black on the TF counter whispered “pick me, pick me!” so I did. I liked it a lot – a well rounded coconut and white floral. If it had better sillage and weren’t so expensive, I think it’d be wishlist. Apparently it’s similar to Bronze Goddess eau Fraiche so I’ll have to check that out.
Also, I have to comment on how amazing the TF counter assistants always look! Clothing, makeup, hair, it’s always perfect every time. They radiate “badass”. I wish I could be so cool, haha.

For so many years I’m trying to convince myself that I should take a day at a time and that every season has its advantages but the sadness and depression that comes with the rains, the winds and the cold is inevitable. This year we still have a nice autumn, warmer and sunnier than usual yet I can’t shake off the knowledge that it will change sooner or later. Stupid, I know…

Not the best I’ve ever written, but, my fingers crossed as I’d love to write and present this one. 13 hours since I applied Rozy the last wisps are still with me. Nice.

And, though I didn’t leave the house all day (no gym! no swim! ack!) I somehow managed to walk over 7km with pacing-and-think sessions and play-with-the-cats escapes. My field is photographic history and visual cultures–and my doctoral research is on networks of amateur photographers.

pomodoro, in short is: focus for 25 minutes, then take up to five minutes break. Repeat. After three or four of ronuds, take a longer break. I try get up and move as much as I can in the gaps. During the focus time: no doing anything else. No sneaky checks of the internet, wandering off to the put the kettle on, etc. It’s really effective… it’s short enough to just crack on, but long enough to be useful.

It almost acts as a palate cleanser for the nose. And reminds me of the many glorious camping trips we took our girls on in their younger years. Smells like sweet, pristine pine forests. 41. OMG guys!! Day three of antibiotics and I’m still running a fever, coughing up my lungs and suffering cracking headaches. Throat is better today. My mood is plummeting. Horrible grey skies. Dark at six. Jaysus. This time of year s-u-c-k-s so much. I ordered another sample of Sedona Sweet Grass last nite. Cuz on top of everything I CAN’T SLEEP EITHER!!
    🤬🤬🤬

  42. Another cracking spring day here. We’re heading to a winery/brewhouse for food, drink and blues music. I’ve chosen one of my spring favourites: Diptyque’s Philosykos.

  43. So yesterday I finished a sample of Scherrer One Love (have a large bottle, it suits me and my taste in perfume)Also used up a sample of Amouage Ciel, def. a warm weather scent and the less challenging Amouage I tried so for, in fact a strong like.

Thursday evening i put on some Tubereuse Criminelle, so lovely after the mentholated blast in the top notes.

  44. Sunday morning… very faint remnants of last night’s Laura Ashley No 1. Before my shower , I thunked my sample of the Bewitching Yasmine…. and nothing… not even in the first 5 minutes!!!! From now on ,if I have a choice, I will spend an extra few bucks and order spray samples.. I haven’t quite decided which scent to wear to work….will be a toss up between Laguna and Maitresse. Will report in a half hour.

  45. Malle’s Vetiver Extraordinaire yesterday morning, and then Bois des Iles extrait in the afternoon and evening, on a grey, blustery, rainy day. The vetiver is not that extraordinary–nice, and an easy wear, and not intrusive while I was doing my gym thing, but far from the best vetiver I’ve ever worn. BdI, however, is always bloody lush.

In Cuir Cannage this morning. Peer pressure, man, the peer pressure! (yeah, like it’s a hardship to wear CC…)

  47. Perfumed experiment today…

I used to wear Shalimar, and loved it. Then I didn’t wear it for a few years, and starting again it just Did Not Work. It was all lemon meringue pie and no depth. Then it occurred to me that the big change between then and now was not the perfume–same bottles–but me. I stopped smoking. So I persuaded the still-smoking mr crikey to wear some of the extrait today. (He’s very obliging and indulgent with these things). Yep, he smells *amazing*. And nothing like pie.

Next stop: No.5, which is another that smells all wrong to/on me these days.

  48. I wore Eau Sublime again as my SOTD but later in the day I decided to rearrange my perfume drawer so I’m currently wearing CdG 2Man, Nina by Nina Ricci and a tad bit of Cuir de Russie & So French. Just so you know: after I’ve had some beer I usually crave for something sweet. That probably explains my eclectic choices tonight 🙂

  50. Sunday evening I tried Mmmm from Juliette has a gun. on my skin that was a lot of caramel and vanilla, but no berries. This was just too sweet for my liking and unlike Confetto, say. this did not conjure up memories. So I guess I like the earlier scents from JH AG way better.

  52. Guess what? I’m wearing Carnal Flower!!!! Totally inappropriate for the weather but, hey my perfumes smell ‘normal’ again! I can return to my scented hedonism! And CF is just too silly, beautiful and uplifting to me, so I have thoroughly hosed myself down. Pretty sure my neighbours across the street can smell me.
