Hi APJ,
A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.
You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.
SOTD 22.10 – 28.10.2018
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Go To It Crew.

Get some paint samples and try out on the wall. It’s hard to know what any colour will look like as it depends on the natural light in the room. Good luck with the project. Hubby will have a nice surprise after his holliers.

I thunked the decant I made of eldest Marzipan’s full bottle of Arz el Rab. I went a bit bezerko spraying all day today when I took it to work. this was over a base of patchouli oil /carrier oil blend slathered all over my body. I am going to slather it on tonight too. I find it to be so soothing. Nothing harsh or rough about it. and it has a minty quality to it because I am fairly certain that patchouli is part of the mint family.
i will have to think about what I am going to wear tomorrow. The weather is getting cold so maybe my decant of Lalique Elegance Animale? It’s a leather which is very very underrepresented in my collection…something fruity/jammy on top…maybe peach?

Some unsolicited advice. Don’t buy essential oils from a perfume company. Unless you have money to burn. The prices are massively marked up. The fruit blends are 20 dollars for 1/4 of an ounce on the Providence website but sell for 30 dollars for one ounce at White Lotus. I made the mistake years ago of buying oils from Mandy Aftel (spent hundreds of dollars in one order and she did not so much as send me a free sample or write a personal note in the book that I also bought in that order and one of the samples I bought arrived empty because it spilled into the box…I was really annoyed) only to find out from another perfumer that Mandy’s source was White Lotus who was selling those exact same oils for one fourth to one fifth the price she was charging. I kid you not. The perfumer who told me was kind enough to direct me to both White Lotus and Eden where she got all of her oils from as well.
Take out the middle man. You can get an enjoyable patchouli from White Lotus, Eden Botanicals, Aura Cacia, Now Essentials and even Vitacost. I have used and enjoyed them all. Age the patchouli yourself if you need for it to be aged (right now I have a big bottle sitting in my basement aging). Also, Eden has a patchouli sampler pack for eight dollars for four full vials.
OK that’s all I have to say 🙂
LikeLike
WOW! Thank you for the excellent advice. I must say I’m shocked. That is reprehensible behaviour. I’m stunned, but I suppose I shouldn’t be. Anything to make a buck these days, even if it means fleecing the consumer 😡

I am a newbie knitter…took me years to learn how to even manage rudimentary knitting thanks to a very kind librarian who ran a knitting club that I used to attend at the library while the kids did their volunteer work. Unfortunately she left and my skills never quite took off. Don’t know how to read a pattern and just do basic stitching for basic hats and scarves. Can’t even tell you what I do-LOL! Knit..knit and pearl??? don’t know. What I do know is that my recipients are happy with something that is homemade and free 🙂
One day I will explore and learn how to really knit following a pattern and also various types of stitches. However, I will say that what I do knitting wise is incredibly relaxing and meditative so it’s worth its weight in gold or the cost of a skein (that’s what a ball of yarn is referred to as, right?). I buy my yarn for very inexpensive at Walmart. I get Lion’s Brand Hometown America because it’s thicker and easier to knit.

Hey Diana, I think you’d like the Labdanum. I’ll wear it properly and report back. Santal 33 is my fav, and Patchouli 24. I don’t really want to like this brand because a full bottle is outside my budget, and on my skin I need to put a bit on for it to last and float around me. But the sample sizes are just enough so at least I have some x

Today I raided my antiques display and put on some Christy’s Eau de Cologne. Christy’s was an Australian firm, and this fragrance was being produce before the second world war and into the late ’40s, as far as I can work out. The packaging on mine suggests pre-war certainly, and maybe pre-Art Deco too. It comes in a hefty splash bottle with a glass stopper, inside a marbled brown cardbaord box.
The juice has held up surprisingly well. It’s got some lemon and lavender in it, and I think maybe some herbs; I’d guess it is just a typical EdC, nothing remarkable other than its age and that it is Australian. Like most vintage fragrances it’s lost some of its kick, it’s close to the skin and the top notes are ephemeral indeed. It is still quite a nice one to wear occasionally, for old times’ sake.

Portia, I bought a Bosch thirteen years ago. I love it. When I buy an appliance I specifically avoid too many bells and whistles. The more gee-gaws there are the more techy components are required to support all that complex technology. And that means the likelihood of malfunctions, glitches etc. goes up. Suddenly you’re best friends with your repairman and he’ll be sauntering around in your kitchen wafting Shalimar. The same reason BMW’s and Mercedes are always in the shop. They are so highly engineered that some temperamental computer component or another is always throwing a hissy fit. My advice is get what you need. Don’t be seduced by all the high tech flouriches and bows.

I have been wearing MFK Amyris Femme today. Did some house chores while waiting for a new coffee table and a barstool to be delivered. Then was told at 3 PM that delivery was not possible this afternoon. The shop promised to deliver at noon tomorrow and help assemble the table for free, so I’m trying not to be annoyed. I always struggle with such things,so usually have to pay extra to have furniture assembled.
LikeLike
Ingeborg, I feel your pain on furniture assembly. My youngest daughter is expecting delivery of FOUR pieces of furniture next week to her new apartment. They all need assembling. My husband is miserable at this task. REFUSES to read the directions, actually throws them out. The first thing he does!!! Then he screws it up, swears at the irritation of it all and walks away in disgust. Like it’s the furniture’s fault 🤨. So, my eldest daughter and I will have a workshop and patiently teach the youngest daughter how to do it. At least that’s the plan. I may also be walking away in disgust. Anyhow, since when was furniture that must be assembled a thing? How freaking annoying is that? 😡

Sadly it isn’t 1877 ,so I can’t say ‘here’s 20 cents ,call someone who cares’ like I wanted to, so just have to ‘cop it’. Anyway for those in Australia ,on GEM this arvo is the fast 5 netball, so I’ll put it on a couple of TVs at work. Since Operation Hallway is complete…the painting at least, I now have decided that the items which adorned the walls and tables ect need to be redone Do any of you have indoor plants and are able to keep them alive? I can smell the remnants of yesterday’s Soul, but will be digging out something ‘lighter’ for this arvo.

Tiger’s Nest is mostly a warm amber on me. I don’t find it animalic personally. It has an odd note hovering in the background and I can’t figure out if it’s the aldehyde or lemon. In any event, it is easy to wear, has decent sillage and good longevity. Also received Eleventh Hour, Patchouli-Oud (Affinessence), and Caron Pour Un Homme which is a big like. A old school vibe lavender/vanilla. The patchouli reminds me of what the cool kids wore in high school while I was wafting Shalimar. Eleventh Hour was not my bag, but then I have a really bad relationship with practically all Byredos.
