Hey Hey Perfume Junkies,
The idea is that anything worthy of comment, either good or bad, that’s passed under my nose through the week will get a short write up. Up till now I have kept APJ positive comments only, those days are gone. If I think something is terrible, shamefully lazy, greedy or stupid and you should know about it, it will be said. Not everything works for everyone and it would be pretty boring if it did >>> YMMV. I’d love it if you all agree, respectfully disagree, have any thought-out opinion and want to share, do so in the comments below. The point is starting a conversation.
Anything that I’m not keeping becomes a super simple GIVEAWAY. All comments are entered. Next week I’ll tell you who random.org picked. If the winner doesn’t eMail me during the week it will JACKPOT to next weeks winner who will get both.
Last Weeks Winner: Cee

Already mentioned my new sniffs in SOTD thread. But loving my new leather friends, Cuir d’Iris and Knize Ten (though that’s all about florals as far as I’m concerned).
But my smellies from Portia arrived this morning. Thank you. Haven’t had a chance to try yet, have been busy on the road all morning in my car that’s on loan from garage while my beast is being fixed.

Enjoy your smellies from Portia.

So Knize Ten is not a harsh blend of leather and green notes? Getting curious, it’s one of those scents regularly mentioned in the comments.

Ingeborg,
I find Knife Ten quite harsh for about the first 30 minutes. It’s a good harsh though. Birch and leathery stuff before it does get some floral action and then fades to creamy delightfulness.
It’s one of those frags that gives a very wide range of wears. I’ve put it on friends and it has smelled totally different.

I second Portia’s opinion: while it has a floral side, Ten to me is really all about leather. The closest one to it is Gomma by Etro.

Seems luke I will have to test and make up my pen opinion!

It’s a very floral but mild leather to my schnozz, even though all reviews say it’s very leather centric. A very good fragrance all the same.

YAY! So glad they arrived. Enjoy them when you get some time Cassieflower.

Wohoo, I’m in Versace Blonde today. Big love for that one! It’s very ‘me’ as I love a BWF.

As a BWF lover somehow I missed the boat on Versace Blonde. Of course I may just have been snobbish and dismissed it because. Well because it’s Versace, and I’ve always associated that brand as a little ‘trashy’

Not at all. This is a very well done fragrance, but then it is an older one.

I have been fortunate to smell Knize Ten and Chanel cuir de russie in both vintage and current formulas. It really shocked me how vintage knize ten and cuir de russie were similar. Vintage knize ten actually comes across as more floral than vintage cuir de russie in which the birch tar is stronger. Moving on to present era, knize ten became more focused on birch tar and less floral even though it is usually the reverse trend from vintage to modern versions. Weird vintage knize ten is more floral and modern is more birch tar (synthetic though) despite IFRA restrictions against birch tar.
On the other hand, cuir de russie seems to have changed a lot in my opinion. While vintage cuir de russie was a proper leather in the sense that it focused on birch tar, the modern cuir de russie seems to have been “Chanel 5-ofied” if that makes sense. it is velvety leather, more along the lines of cuir ottoman rather than vintage birch tar-focused leathers. The new Cuir de Russie has more Chanel DNA if Chanel 5 is the signature of the brand while the older cuir de russie was so similar to leather perfumes from other brands including Knize.

How interesting Fazal. I guess I’ll ask my perfume friends here if anyone has a drop to give away of the vintage Knize Ten. Just so I know what people are talking about. l really cannot afford collecting vintage.

Thanks for this interesting information Fazal. I am not familiar with any of the two perfumes in neither version but I’d have assumed the same as you did.

Thank you for that in-depth comparison. So I will need to try vintage Chanel to get a better feel, as I’m rather put off by the idea that there’s more No 5 aspect to the newer additions as I’m not a fan of that. I think the Knize Ten is the modern formulation but it’s really very nice.

If you have smelled Cuir Ottoman, that might be a better way of imagining what style new cuir de russie is in. It does not smell like a traditional leather anymore. I hope I am not giving wrong idea by using the term “chanel 5-ofied” but what I meant to say was that new cuir de russie is modernized in that it has embraced the new leather trend of removing rough edges and adding sweetness.

Always good to have trusted favourites to fall back on when days are busy! Portia, I hope you still managed to keep your new routine with going to the gym and healthy eating.
I’m waiting for some samples from Aus Liebe zum Duft, hoping they will arrive quickly this time.

Hey Ingeborg,
Yes, though we did have a couple of days off due to conflicting timetables so I gave the dogs extra long walks.
Did Aqua again this morning.
Gym tomorrow.
It’s not a routine yet but I can already feel my body remembering its strength. That’s a nice feeling.
OOOH! I hope your samples come quick too.

My new sniff was Dunhill Icon though I got backups of Narciso Musc for Him oil and vintage CK Obsession for Men. Vintage CK Obsession for men is so good that it is amazing what CK used to produce back then. I have not smelled latest version of CK Obsession for men but all online reviews say it has been butchered and it sells for so low in US now that it is reasonable to assume materials have been cheapened for the sake of low prices and mass sales.

The Obsession for men was an incredible fragrance. And where on earth does one get their hands on Musc oil now? Wow, that was a good find.

I came across a listing on ebay and immed bought it because the price was too good. Other listings of Men oil version are at quite inflated prices. I believe Narciso has released multiple oil versions for women but only one for men so men version is rarer and more expensive.

Fazal you smell fabulous in that Obsession.

Home from work and my heating is on. Yippee. The weather has turned very cold and we may see snow sprinkles this weekend in places. My house is so warm-everywhere 😅 and my Smallies are visiting for a few days so all is well in my little corner of the world.
