Hi APJ,
A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.
You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.
SOTD 3.12 – 9.12.2018
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Go To It Crew.

No scent this morning, I went to a half-day conference which my colleagues had organised in celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Some good stories showing that inclusion in education and in the workplace is possible.
Now working from home for some hours, I’m in a cloud of Dior Ambre Nuit. I nipped into Aesop on the way home to buy a tube of body cream, a Christmas present for someone. Floor so slippery that I totally lost focus, forgot to ask if they have perfumes (I think so?). Anyway, the smell of incense was quite overwhelming, I could hardly tell the different liquid hand soaps apart. I think they have another store, newer, at some other address, so I’ll try that next time.

Gee the week gets away from me quickly sometimes.
On Monday I was movoing boxes around in a storeroom and found a carton of fragrances that I hadn’t opened since we moved in March. Some very nice things inside, and /i went straight for L’Artisan’s Coeur de Vetiver Sacre.
Also on Monday I got another nice surprise: a parcel of samples from Portia! (Thank you). So I thought I would try these out over the rest of the week.
Tuesday was Cuir Amethyste. I had a small decant of this before and this had the same impression. It’s an elegant and discreet leather, but I don’t get much in the way of violets off it. If I’m going to wear a floral leather, I’m probably going to choose Heeley’s Cuir Pleine Fleur.
Today I am wearing Jessica Mauboy Be Beautiful. I can’t say that I’m into celebrity scents; the only one I’ve ever bought was a vintage Passion for Men. BB is the real deal if you want to smell like watery cucumbers, otherwise I’d look elsewhere. Tonight I am going to a Christmas party and will be wearing Cartier XII; I have high hopes for that one.

The bodyoil is a pretty straightforward amber, but there’s such a lot of perfume in the jojoba base oil that the perfume is present on skin for many hours and also forms a cloud of scent around me, it is really good to apply in the evening or together with most amber perfumes for day wear.

Finishing a bottle , decant or sample. I am trying to start using up my samples and decants rather than hoarding them for fear of evaporation which many perfume peeps have recently been talking about. so this is the week to make some headway on that. LikeLike
That explains why I am not aware of the term. I have NEVER finished a bottle, even when bought partial. I still have the Armani Code I bought in 2010, the first bottle I ever bought for myself. I’d have to admit that I’m more likely to thunk due to evaporation than use.

Another really nasty hot day coming our way. I’m wearing Dior Granville. I have to say that the profile of this one made me a bit nervous; pine and lemon sounds dangerously like cleaning products to me. Funny that you consider it a luxury!? Ever since I can remember we’ve had fresh-cut trees. They’re widely available here. I know many people opt for the artificial tree for a wide variety of reasons, but I never considered a fresh tree a luxury. And the smell……ah
LikeLike
We never have an artificial tree, but many trees sold here are imported from Danish plantations. Those are often cut weeks before they are sold and so won’t drink water and start dropping needles after less than a week indoors. A fresh-cut tree on the other hand absorbs water and will last from Dec. 20 through Christmas to the 20th day of Christmas. Avoiding all those dry needles on the floor and having the fresh fir or pine smell is a simple luxury to me.
LikeLike
Oh! I see what you mean. Yes, there are stands around here that sell trees that have been cut 3-4 weeks prior to being put out on the lot. We buy our trees directly from a tree farm. One minute they’re standing, the next on the roof of the car. I do have a little twinge of guilt when the tree is cut, though. But, we enjoy it for almost a month and then it gets properly recycled.

I travelled in Cuir d’Ange. And then went wandering around fancy department stores. Which crazy fool put Harvey Nichols right next to Selfridges in a town where I am killing a spot of time? Doused myself in No.18 and smelled glorious. While sniffing dozens of things I’d not got my nose in before. And, er, may have had the tiniest 10ml travel spray Malle accident…

Finally got my sample of Casablanca! Testing it now and WOW! this is a BWF. Very heady orange blossom but nicely balanced by something citric. Not sure what though. Every once in awhile I get a satisfying whiff of oak moss, but possible not enough to push this into drool-worthy territory. This is Fracas big on me. A half spray is huge!! I’m not convinced I can wear this. I loved Narcisse Noir way back when, but just couldn’t pull it off either. I see Casablanca on a femme fatale type. Swanning around in layers of frothy chiffon or organza. I don’t do chiffon. I’m a ‘less is more’ dame. Casablanca is for a ‘more is better’ gal.
