Hi APJ,
A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.
You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.
SOTD 10.12 – 16.12.2018
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Go To It Crew.

Jyotsna,
I’ve received a few samples among them Violette (everyone says it’s gorgeous but on me it’s a weak apple-scent water. Must be the musks in the basenotes), Figue (quite nice), Habanita (LOVE), Molinard de Molinard (definitely a must-sniff for someone with a taste for old-school florals), Nirmala (Thierry says his mum loved it and it inspired him to create Angel. It’s a fruity floriental) and my personal favourite the sparkling citrus cologne Les Amoureux.
LikeLike
Odd about the Nirmala. I’d never heard of it until a few days ago and then it kept popping up everywhere. I loved the pre-reformulation Angel, so I just ordered a small decant if Nirmala. I’m very curious to compare the two.
LikeLike
They’re not really twins, Marcella: Angel has huge amounts of ethyl maltol (the uber-sweet aspect that reminds us of cotton candy) and patchouli, Nirmala smells like tropic fruit, yet somehow I can see something similar. I wonder what you’ll think of it.

I remember reading here someone commenting on a perfume they enjoyed but made her feel like she was wearing someone else’s clothing. That’s Casablanca for me. Thank you for the love and kind words about my poor little fluffcat. I’ve just spoken to the vet: after scans, x-rays, and more blood tests, it turns out that Herschel has pancreatitis. Poor little beast. that’s painful as hell. So, the kidney disease may be far less than originally feared, and flared up by this. And it’s not a truly scary cause of all this drama (there were some *dreadful* possibilities being discussed). Same treatment, and “most” cats make it through this. But she really, really needs to start eating… I get to visit her this afternoon though.
(Wearing a little Mitzah for reassurance today)
LikeLike
Oh dear, Crikey. I know how you are feeling. It’s heart-rending to see our beloved mulies suffer. They’re so trusting and innocent. I truly hope that treatment proves effective, but more than that, provides some pain relief. Typically animals won’t eat when they are suffering. If Herschel eats, consider it a promising sign. Big hugs from all of us.

Thank you, marcella. Please scritch/pet your wee beasties on my behalf.
It was good to see her this afternoon, and love on her a while. She’s way more responsive now. Still not eating, though. If she doesn’t start by breakfast time, they’ll have to start feeding her by tube.
LikeLike
Good that she’s more responsive. When you say feed by tube, do you mean an IV arrangement or proper solids in a tube down the gullet? Either way. Poor kitty. Is she on any antibiotics or anti-inflammatories? Chances are once those are on board, the discomfort will ease and she may well eat on her own. She’s also probably very stressed being there which also affects her appetite. Any idea when you can bring her home?
And yes, my gang got extra scritches and yummy rubs. They’ve all decided that they are probably living in a forest and have taken up residence under the Christmas tree.
LikeLike
Yummy, tummy rubs*

yep, tube through nose to get actual food in if she still can’t manage to eat. Herschel’s been on a drip for fluids to flush out the toxins from kidney issues, plus antacids, anti-inflams, antibiotics, and pain meds for the past day and a half. And, initially, an oxygen tent to help settle her breathing. She’s looking very droopy and bedraggled, obviously, but rustled up the energy to really get into some face rubs. So, she’s not quitting yet.
I wish I could have a crimble tree…but, well, Atkins is awfully fond of climbing *and* shiny things. And I learned the hard way from a previous cat with similar tendencies

Mine are far too lazy. They view exercise as something only the deranged squirrels outside of their viewing window would partake in. A day and a half on the medication cocktail is not that long. Hopefully the 48 hour mark will show more significant improvement. We’re rooting for her!
LikeLike
Aww that’s a case of good and bad news all at once. Hopefully medication will ease the pain. And kidney disease in puddy tats is helped massively by strict diet. I hope you’re feeling more optimistic now.
LikeLike
thanks, cassieflower. It *is* good news. If we can get her past this crisis, the prognosis is pretty good for longer term management–and yep, the special diet is key. They were about to give her a whacking great big dose of cat-version-of-morphine to squish that pain as we left. So, crossing fingers she’ll feel a lot better and a lot more comfortable after that. Though she was well enough to give me a quite determined purry head bump.

Spent the day in thrall of Salome. I even took her out to a meeting with friend’s of The Wealthies who want work done on their house.
Came home and decided to try Tobacco Rose, figuring it was sure to be another hit. Nothing going. Rose and I simply do not agree. LOVE the smell of roses in a garden/florists, but my skin turns it to sour wee water. I’m disappointed. I was hoping to finally find a rose that I could wear.
Incidentally, I got no tobacco whatsoever. Just sour rose 😢
LikeLike
same here, sadly. Most roses go sour on me too (though ones with patch in the mix are more likely to work, like PoaL which is utterly lush, and Le Mat). Have you tried Anubis yet? It’s another beauty.
LikeLiked by 1 person
This intrigued me Crikey. Along with the Papillon samples a couple of others were included. Among them Le Mat. That’s an amazing rose on me, although it doesn’t read strictly as a rose. I am thoroughly enjoying it and will probably spring for a decant.
Poal I have not tried, simply because I have such a bad track record with rose. But. From what I have read, it seems it stands a good chance of working. The fact that it’s beautiful on you is encouraging.
I have the sample of Anubis, but haven’t tried it yet. But Le Mat. Very unusual scent but exceptionally huffable.

It was fun, a bit stupid, but still entertaining. Directing and writing could be better but it’s a visual joy (I mean both digital effects and beautiful actors. Nicole Kidman looks as if she’s still in her early thirties. It’s a lie, of course, but who cares as long as decent actors can continue to appear on the big screen).
DC Comics still need to step up their game but along with Wonder Woman Aquaman is an improvement. I really think their characters deserve better treatment.

Did you buy Smallies some perfume???? The other thing you can do is buy those fancy metal atomizer travel sprays from amazon and make decants for her….I do this all the time and gift them…some are quite pretty with faux diamonds scattered throughout and come in very pretty colors like pink, red, gold , silver and purple.

I forgot the cummerbund, which is actually black. But the shoes are dark red. Unless he unearths the black ones, which I very much doubt, he wouldn’t be that bothered.

Happy Saturday, fumie friends. 💕

Cassie, I’m the proud owner of a Camel travel spray. I’ve ordered it along with Panda and Hummingbird to my Canadian family in the summer and my daughter picked it up during her visit. Obviously Camel is one of my favourites from the line 🙂 I think it’s time I start wearing it. I admit, I forgot about it so thanks for bringing it up.

No idea why my post turned as twice and once as a reply to you. What I meant to say was that Camel seems to be exceptionally popular amongst Zoologist fans. I think I’m going to hussle my buns downtown this week for a good sniff around. I’ll stick to the perfume shops and avoid the department stores. The tidal wave of desperate shoppers terrifies me.

Beaufort Couer de Noire today. This will probably go on the full bottle wish list when I finish my decant. I seem to wear it quite often, and always enjoy it.
Bitterly bloody cold, with a nasty dose of sleet. Stupidly forgot that the lifting gym is also cold as hell, so had a rotten session. Will have a do over, with long sleeves on so I can actually keep blood flowing in my arms. Brr! Might switch to a cozier scent for this blustery evening.
(Recovering cat is mostly sleeping. And snacking. And insisting on being *very* close, despite being not-a-lapcat. Other cat is still a bit freaked out by Herschel smelling so wrong.)
LikeLike
I found thee Beaufort line …ehm, rather challenging after I’ve tried Lignum Vitae and Fathom V so I’ve skipped the rest. Have you tried them?
Good news that Herschel is snacking 🙂
LikeLike
I think they are rather polarising fragrances, and that “challenging” description is pretty fair 🙂 But I tend to get on quite well with smoky and/or blokey scents (or ones that have notes that tend to get put in the “masculine” pile, anyway)
Lignum Vitae has more juniper than I can live with comfortably, but Fathom V went pretty rapidly from sample to bottle–it’s a very evocative scent for me, sitting comfortably in memories of landscapes and experience, and I really enjoy the smellscape while wearing it. I keep pondering a decant of Vi et Armis–but wish I could dial down the whisky in it. CdN makes me feel like a pirate queen, though.

I went to a huge birtday party at a club with a live band playing hits from the eighties and it was fantastic! I was wearing BV Eau de Velours. As I was about to leave at the early morning hours a guy passed by leaving a wonderful smelling trace so I had to ask him what it was – FM Noir Epices !!! He then reached in his pocket and gave me the sample vial. I was speechless…

Pour Un Homme for olfactory relaxation. Super fun last night. I’m thinking sequins are really in this year. I was practically blinded by all that flash and glitter.
OMG. We sat at a table with peeps we knew apart from one couple. Judging by their accents, they were out-of-towners. A May-December thing going on and she was guzzling champagne like a champ. Sure enough, she started getting a bit sloppy and talking loudly. She leaned over to say something to her partner in what she hoped would be a whisper. Instead, she bellows into his ear “DID YOU REMEMBER TO PACK THE VIAGRA?”. The entire table erupted into embarrassed laughter. Hilarious!

That sounds lovely! Fiddling around with essential oils is how Liz Moores (Papillon Perfumes) started off. I think. Unless I imagined reading this, which, of course, is entirely possible 🤪. I could see you starting up a little perfume biz! Bettcha you’d be good at it.
Now orris butter. Does it smell like iris? Is it actually the texture of butter? And how does it dissolve into the oil?
At the very least, you could run little workshops in your hood. And! Charge a fee as well to keep up your perfume habit.

Nope, this is purely a hobby and I make them mostly for my perfume peeps and friends (a coworker wears them exclusively as her daily perfume). Yes, orris butter smells like a dry rooty iris..lots of shaking and it dissolved in the oil.
