SOTD 31.12.2018 – 6.1.2019

Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 31.12.2018 – 6.1.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Happy New Year to you all! Hope 2019 will bring us a lot of beautiful days and nights.
I’m planning to wear vintage Kypre by Lancome if I manage to find the vial.

  2. New Years Eve is almost done here in Oz. In 38 minutes we’ll be in 2019.
Wearing Miller et Bertaux Santal ++++ and loving it.
Jin is already asleep and I’m watching the TV. It’s been raining here and the weather has cooled. The dogs and I just had our last walk of 2018. It’s been a good year, no complaints here.

Safe, peaceful, prosperous and satisfying 2019 to all our APJ readers.

  3. Wishing you all a happy, healthy, safe and prosperous new year. Wearing Eau Duelle. Later I will be carrying on a Dutch tradition by making Oliebollen with my daughters. Essentially a Dutch donut (minus the hole) and liberally dusted with confectioner’s sugar.

  4. Happy New Year to all! We are staying in tonight after having a family of 5 visiting since Friday from Canada and attending the Steelers game yesterday in the cold. I’m thinking of Alahine for later, or something from Tauer.

  8. Happy New Year!

As the year draws to a close, I’ve been looking back to old favorite perfumes. For the past two days I’ve been in Jasmine de Provence, even though it is completely unsuitable for the winter. Love it anyway. Tonight for our party, I think I’ll thunk my 5mL of vintage Byzance…

  10. I sprayed many different ones since I am moving so was taping the boxes. But the one that moved me most and which i sprayed for the first time was Ted Lapidus Envol. It is beautiful and one-of-a-kind. It has that timeless feel, too that despite being old, it does not feel as aged as some from 80s and 90s feel even if they are very beautiful creations.

  11. Wishing all of you the very best in the New Year! I am traveling with minimal perfume; Blocki This Grand Affair and Lancome Iris Dragee, as well as a few samples. So it will be one of those for New Year’s Eve and Day. I left sunny and warmer Arizona yesterday, and today got off the interstate early because of a severe winter storm going through southern Colorado. New Year’s Eve at the Day’s Inn, LOL!

As usual, I’ve started celebrating around noon in the city center, found a cafe with good old funky music, met tons of friends and stayed until 9pm. Then I crawled home, sprayed myself with Amouage Jubilation XV Extrait, opened a bubbly and took some time for myself to rethink 2018 and make plans for 2019. It will be a good year, I can feel it 🙂

  16. Happy new year to APJ and all who sail in her.

Bapteme du Feu last night–the gun-powdery spiced orange peel seemed appropriate for a winter city full of fireworks. Even though I was tucked up indoors, avoiding the crowds. And today I am pottering about in MEM.

  17. PG Coze last night. We spent NYE downtown at a comedy club with a group of friends. The comedians were hilarious, but perhaps not quite as amusing as the people at the table next to us. They had clearly been over-served and the waiters were running to keep them fueled.
Carnal Flower up at bat for a brand new shiny year. Let’s approach it with optimism, hope and resolve. We’ll be rounding up the girlies later on to take them out for brunch. Looking forward to hearing their NYE’s de-briefing.

  21. Morning all. I’m a lazy ass, still lying in bed. Have to shift myself now. Last day in Stuttgart, we go back this evening. It has been a rollicking few days here, had so much fun. NYE was incredibly good, early dinner and walked to the main square where everyone was letting off fireworks. It was a bit bonkers. We had champagne with us to start the year in style. On the way back we found a bar with music so we just had to go in. Danced ourselves silly, we got everyone up on the floor.
Today it will be either Tauer or some of hubby’s MR. Right, I’m getting up!

  23. First day back at “work” (volunteering in the op shop). It’s still hot here. so I’m still reaching for summery citrusy things. Today I wore HdP 1725. This is an odd beast. It starts out pretty summery, but dries down to amber and sandalwood, which to me are winter notes. I’m not sure if I like this.

  29. A rare beast today, from an op shop find: Floris Cefiro Gentleman’s Cologne. I’ve seen write-uops of this as a unisex scent, but no record of a bottle marked “Cefiro Gentleman’s Cologne”. It’s a little bottle with a waist, and I’me guessing that it goes back to the launch era, but that they united the product lines at some point. I’m guessing that it’s no different to Cefiro, and it smelt like that – a brief citrusy opening but more a classic barbershop scent than a summery EdC.

Might go with an amalgamation I made with L”Artisan’s Cote D’Amour to which I added a hefty dose of patchouli, mandarin and sweet orange essential oils to make it last longer on my skin…..that will be an all over body spray…then a swipe of Casablanca on my wrist.

Watery “blue” floral, a little soapy, work appropriate but not really my cup of tea. I plan to try each of them, keep the faves and then pass along the others.

I wanted to love Indigo but it didn’t happen. Dahlias and Vines is a very pretty and polite floral. The collection is inspired by British paper artist Mary Delany. Her work is gorgeous! Lovely APJer Melanie gave me a bunch of samples. Which is how I found out about them.

Day 2 was interesting – I had a therapy called shirodhara: warm sesame oil flowing on the forehead. It’s supposedly good for the central nervous system and I think I fell asleep during the process. Don’t ask how long it took me to wash my hair afterwards 😀

Marie Kondo on steroids here. Just distributed my lovely MOR soaps in my pyjama and sock drawer. And Kashmir rose soap in my scarf drawer. MOR is an Aussie brand, right? Anyone else have/like their products?

Organising my art materials. Tossed out all cardboard boxes. Would like to replace them with fun vintage boat/cabin suitcases. Fake vintage, sadly. Unless I can get some of Greg’s op shop luck. We’re paper maché-ing a box for my son’s teacher. Will send it back filled with art and craft goodies for his class next year. My son wants us to make a bottle of hand-wash to put in. 47. will continue to test the Rag & Bone I have in the basement…today will be Neroli on one wrist and Rose on the other.

    Like

    • OK so I accidentally sprayed on Oud instead of Rose and then just decided to test whatever was left so I included Oddity as well in the mix. They all don’t seem to be true to their name (except the Rose which smells like tea rose) and I am wondering if this is like a Le Labo thing (cause none of them smell as their names imply…at least not what I know these notes to smell like in essential oil format). The base of Cypress, Amber and Oddity all dry down to what smells like myrrh essential oil (that pungent medicinal smell which I happen to love). Oud, to my wonky nose, smells of tonka bean and vanilla and nothing like real agarwood e.o…..I will put these to the side as they are tiny travel sprays and I don’t anticipate that they will evaporate any time soon…may give them a whirl again in warmer weather.

      Like

      • Lucky you with the oud. I wish I could feel like you about it. Or maybe not. I’m afraid I’d find even more perfumes to like so let’s keep it the way it is – no oud for me…and no thunking for you today.

        Like

        • No it’s just the Rag & Bone Oud that doesn’t smell like oud at all. Other oud perfumes which use synthetic ouds I don’t always care for . I did enjoy two recent tries of ouds..Lancome Oud Bouquet and Mona di Orio’s Oud….neither one were over bearing in the oud department…they were rich and luxurious.

  48. SOTDay 4 of detox – Fragonard’s Santal. Today I’ve again had the wonderful oil on forehead procedure and after lunch a “small” enema. Tomorrow the big one is scheduled.
In the evening I’m invited to a romantic dinner (wishful thinking 😛 ). Seriously, it’s a guy who I’ve met recently and this will be the chance to get to know him better. I have no idea which perfume to wear for that occasion…maybe pull out one of my favourite vintages – Armani, Jil Sander III, J’ai Ose…?

    Like

    • Okay. You’ve just lost me on the detox plan. I was all intrigued and loving the idea of constant massages, but a ‘small’ enema? with the big one scheduled for tomorrow??? Nope. Count me out. Hard pass. And seriously! You’re having an enema today and going out for dinner with a suitor this evening? Might there not be some lingering ‘side effects’? I’d still be traumatized and busily dreading the ‘big one’ tomorrow! 😳

I’ve got to get at least 90% of these drawings done if I hope to escape later this month with Mr. LH. The plumbing plans are on deck for this week and they’re gonna be a b*tch. I’ll probably have to revert back to Bandit or Chanel No. 19 when those get started.

    Like

    • What are your thoughts on Kiki? is that the lavender one with passionfruit? I have no familiarity with the Vero Kerns but I do know that there are differences between the extraits, VdE and EDPs….I know in the past I may have tried one of something but for the life of me cannot remember which one. Nonetheless just as well for it would be FOMO as I am sure the bottles are scarce now.

Good luck with getting all of your drawings done!!!

      Like

      • Yes the Kiki I have is lavender and passion fruit. It’s the only one I’ve tried of the line. I’m enjoying it but it’s not going to make the full bottle cut. I was looking for something like Pour Un Homme but with more complexity, oomph and longevity. There’s also caramel and musk in this, so I thought it would fit. In the end, Kiki is a much different thing.
I have it in my mind that I want to try the Rozy EdP as well, but, as you pointed out, who knows if they will remain available? Also frightfully spendy. So I’ll probably abstain.

        Like

    • Kiki EdP didn’t work for me. I just have a complicated relationship with lavender. The VdE I haven’t tried.

The humid soil and undergrowth smell and the sweetness of fruits (not to mention the flying foxes I see every night) seems to mirror the real summer world magnificently. SOTE: the nameless iris from Parfums Dusita. It’s growing on me: at first all I could smell was violet which, of course, is great because I love violets but not what I expected.
