Heya Guerlain Lovers,
There’s been a lot of thunking talk around here and I have been rediscovering decants of things I bought bottles of, put away for safe keeping or just put aside and completely forgot about. Here’s a very embarrassing admission, I have an old Surrender To Chance 5ml decant of Guerlain Nuit d’Amour, the spritzer is a bit dicky so I only used it the once. I also have a bottle in use and an untouched backup. TRAGIC!
Nuit d’Amour by Guerlain 2006
Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Top: Lychee, Pink pepper
Heart: May rose, Violet
Base: Sandalwood, White musk, Iris
Sweet lychee and the fizz of pink pepper over o rose violet bouquet. It’s a bit dated now, smells like it could come from the L’Occitane range or would fit perfectly into the current crop of Maison Christian Dior Collection. A fruity wash of loveliness that doesn’t push any boundaries, create new paths or even have much to say for itself.
Here’s the think though, as trite and lacklustre an offering Nuit d’Amour is I still LOVE it. Though it doesn’t get an awful lot of skin time around here, when I do spritz it is perfect. A subdued, fruity floral nothing that smells so good. It manages sweet without the ultra high octane sugar rush or the familiar trope of bakery. The floral bouquet is crisp and tart, hinting at citrus and green tea. Leading to a soft focus laundry-clean dry down that never loses its hint of lychee.
In personality Nuit d’Amour most resembles Champs Elysees, yet they smell nothing alike. The same flirty, fun and freshly dewy disposition. A spritz and go beauty that has quite good longevity and a diffuse projection, it will surprise people sitting with you after a few minutes. Stealth loveliness.
So I’m using up my decant. It’s over half empty now. I’m going to slam thunk it tomorrow.
Do you like or love Nuit d’Amour?

I have never tried it TBH. The notes are really great and I’ll give it a sniff asap. Sounds like a perfect summer scent.

Hey there Neva,
Sometimes I question myself on taste, If you told me I’d want to smell like this I wouldn’t have believed you but in reality I LOVE smelling like this.

I never tried it. Is this the one that another APJer blind bought? It sounds delightful. And I am glad that all of our thunking has encouraged you to visit old loves.

Ha! It was Kathleen but I got the perfume wrong.

Good memory Brigitte! My blind buy (I rarely do this) was a success. The Nuit d”Amour that Portia reviewed sounds lovely as well with the rose, violet, and iris and sandalwood in the base. Similar notes to Dioramour.

Just the action of going through old sample boxes has been enormously fun Brigitte,

No, have never seen this but it sounds pretty. I have quite a few dark and challenging perfumes but sometimes you just want to smell pretty.

Yes, challenging is excellent JackieB and I love that but you’re right, there is definitely a space for smelling pretty. This is so pretty it’s a challenge in itself, HA!

I have two generous samples from the Guerlain Vegas boutique. Absolutely LOVE. Fun and just sophisticated enough. Hope to own the bee bottle soon!

Lucky you JulieZ,
Was that the Bellagio or Venetian boutique?

Rose violet got my attention! I have never sampled Nuit d’Amour. I have been a long-time fan of Champs Elysees and therefore, I would likely enjoy this fragrance.
And speaking of loveliness, I know we are talking Guerlain; however, I received my blind buy of Dioramour. Had to mention the powdery iris and jasmine is a win! As you said, very pretty and classic. I am so glad I took the leap of faith! And the unboxing was incredible and divine! I’ve never purchased from Dior directly before. I received a large decant of Balade Sauvage (a stunning fig/citrus), bar of Neroli soap, as well as a mini of Poison Girl Unexpected and several other samples. Wow!

Kathleen, Dior did not stint! It made the shopping experience much more luxurious and enjoyable, I bet.

Happy Day! You bought in the USA, Europe or Oz?

I purchased in the US from the Dior online boutique Dior.com.
I know we all have a deep fondness for niche and natural perfumers, as we should, and I love and admire so many. However, there is something so luxe, and apparently they have gotten it right over the years, about the long-standing fragrance house such as Guerlain, Dior, and Chanel. They truly make purchases special and I’m so glad that focus on experience has not disappeared.

I have a bottle of Nuit d’Amour which was a gift from my husband. I rarely wear it as it is a bit too fruity for me, but it is pretty. I agree on the similarity to Champs Élysées. Need to get it out and wear it again.

Hey TaraC,
My only complaint is that those puffer things are an annoyance, I wish they came with a simple spritz,

I decanted mine into a plain glass atomizer. I binned the puffer thing, totally annoying and useless.

Yep. Totally useless.

I have a Guerlain in the bee bottle with the puffer thing. As old-school glamorous as it looks, I left the glass stopped in because I was afraid of evaporation. Is this true perfume will evaporate faster through the puffer? I read that somewhere.
LikeLike
It is true. The puffer is rubber covered in fabric and is porous, your fragrance will evaporate and oxydize.

Good to know TaraC. I have the glass stopper in place, and so far I haven’t noticed much evaporation (same with my bottle of Hiram Green). May I ask why you decant in a plain glass atomizer, instead of using the bee bottle with the glass stopped it came with? I want to make sure I protect my perfume best possible!

There was a lot of chatter about that Kathleen and I can’t honestly tell you if it’s true or not. I tend to decant my mini bee bottles rather than use the puffer, I wish Guerlain offered two spritz methods, the puffer and a regular nozzle, then we could decide for ourselves.

Interesting question! As I asked TaraC, why do you decant in a plain glass atomizer, instead of using the bee bottle with the glass stopped it came with? I want to make sure I protect my perfume best possible!

Are you using your bee bottle as a splash? Because when I purchased my bee bottles, they came with a glass stopper and a puffer attachment. I only spray my perfumes, I don’t dab them on, so the only thing I can do is decant them into a spray atomizer.

Ok, makes sense you prefer spraying. I have been using these two bottles, the Guerlain bee bottle and the Hiram Green as dabbers. I always spray fragrances that come with a sprayer (most), except for samples which I dab. I have to ask the next question now, why do you prefer spraying to dabbing? Just a question of curiosity really!

Spraying gives me a larger application. I have dry skin which doesn’t hold a scent so I need to use a lot more.

Thank you Tara C for answering my inquiries! I happily learn tips and so much from fellow fragrance lovers. I have dry skin as well, and live in a dry climate so I understand the need for more fragrance.

I have never smelled this but it sounds like a brilliant, playful combo. But I love the scent of fresh lychees; sadly it’s impossible to capture & bottle. and the taste – oh my!!

Hey Jyotsna,
I love the taste of lychee but the texture is not something I can swallow. If it’s in a drink I LOVE IT!

Jyotsna, what do you think of Miracle, by Lancome? That has a flowery lychee.
Any other lychee centred scents you enjoy?

Sounds like something I’d really enjoy. I am not sure I have even seen it around on Guerlain shelves in Melbourne. I know DJs on Bourke tend to have a few old testers stashed away in the drawers, so could be lurking around in one.

Hello
Oh Nuit d’Amour! I bought it as a collection piece. Smells lovely.. sadly lasts about 30 minutes on my skin. A besutiful 30 minutes; but then again, I am biased (I will collect anything Guerlain). The bulb sprayer (I have the old one) is woeful, so I resort to decanting it to 5ml vials to use.
I don’t get any lychee, violet or iris; more of Rose and crisp florals.
Lots of love
Rachel
