Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 4.2 – 10.2.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Sonoma Scent Studio Winter Woods. Although the temperature today is rising to spring-like levels, less than a week after the polar vortex blew through. One of the weirder winters weather-wise.

  2. This evening have slathered myself in Bottega Veneta body cream, I love this…makes your skin so soft and it doesn’t smell overpowering.

  3. Heliotrope Blanc Orize Legrande. It is beautiful. I’ve been sampling a few Heliotropes, hoping for a FB of one of them for the spring.

  4. Irisistible April Aromatics, but I was torn between Naja and this. They do have a texture in common at least to my nose, a sort of soft downy weightlessness while they have substance too.

  5. NVC Pichola, I will get one more wear out of this sample, luckily it’s potent and doesn’t need much to create a big impression. This and Casablanca are by far the best discoveries in the last couple of years. This sample is from Portia but I’ve got another one after this is used up. This will help to stave off the disappointment of still not owning the 15ml. But I’ll get it eventually.

  7. SL Un Lys. Not that I need a reason, but the Christmas tree we just took down (what can I say, we’re festive or lazy, depending on how you look at it) gouged my wrist deeply on its way out the door, so I won’t be spraying for a while. Dabbing makes my aim more precise!

  8. I have an Arquiste sample set that seems to be evaporating on me, so I’m going to have to give it some attention. Monday I wore L’Etrog Acqua. I’m one of the few people who seems to actually like this, even though it doesn’t last too well.

  9. home now and testing Boyd’s of Texas High Desert…smoky, herbal leather. I like it. And I think it’s an all natural one.

  10. Bruma for an unseasonably warm day here today. Might put on some Equistrius after a shower. I caved and bought a bottle Portia.

  11. Nuit de Noel parfum that I purchased for a song at a very amazing garage sale (along with a few more Carons). We have snow and cold in Seattle and Nuit de Noel is the perfect cozy, winter perfume. It takes a very small amount of snow to shut Seattle down (drivers who don’t know how to drive in the snow combined with black ice), so today was a hang at the house day 🙂

    • oh dear, I hope you were able to stay inside safe and cozy. Please let us know what other Caron treasures you picked up! I am hoping to one day get my nose on Nuit de Noel.

  12. Yesterday ,the 4th ,I wore nothing. It was the hardest day of my life because my husband left to be with his new b*****. I don’t know when he will return. However , at about 8 pm last night I ventured to the letterbox to check if any mail…..yippeeee… a lovely mail bag from Melanie. It had a lovely card enclosed and a sweet lemon coloured box which contained many perfume samples. Thank you so much, Mel.

  13. first wearing of Bvlgari Amara, not impressed. I think original Aqva is a classic and if you have that, you dont need any flanker in collection.

      • Marcella, sorry but I can’t compare for you. I bought Diva as a blind buy late last year for not much. I get some florals, vanilla and sandalwood and maybe some Ylang Ylang, which reminds me of soap. Its a classic for sure. I’m thinking of sharing some with a friend of mine who wears Madame Rochas. It is lovely and i’m keen to see how it wears when the weather is cooler.

  16. Val’s post made me not want to test tonight and instead dig out my vintage bottle of Nocturnes de Caron which is hiding in the basement. One spray on the chest just now..Lordy this is great stuff! A bottle has always been with me since 1983 (I think I have had at least 20). For some odd reason it is reminding me of Chanel no 22 tonight…I keep bowing my head down to smell it…Mr. Marzipan is looking at me in bewilderment…

  17. All day and evening in Cuir Mauresque.

(Which smells nothing at all like freshly cured Moroccan leather. For which I am hugely thankful. A bag I bought giddily in Marrakesh had to be banished for a decade until it stopped smelling terrifying…this is such a lovely smoothly-spiced warm floral soft barely-leathery-leather.)

  18. Zoologist Camel for an evening with friends at a wine bar. We tried several different bubblies and wines, ate some snacks and chatted. The dry smell of Camel mixed with the wine…mmmmmhhhh….

  19. So on Tuesday I was hot and I went with Hermès Eau d’Orange Verte. Today, not so hot, so I gave HdP 1725 another try. I think a big HdP clearout is in my near future. I have quite a few of them, and only 1740 seems to do it for me.

Rest of the week reserved for Arquiste, I promise.

A strong cup of tea so that I can wake up to take the marzipan boy to his volunteer work at the library and a good spray of Boyd’s of Texas all natural Cuero…a good sweet , dark wood leather…another one for Crikey…..too bad she lives in Scotland…this would be a good one for her and I to sniff together over a cup of tea and scones…..

        • I’m in Croatia. It’s a small market so most of the commercial rules can’t be applied. The discounts are never spectacular here. And besides I’m on a non-buy until…don’t know exactly 😉
I’ve tried the flankers but they didn’t leave an impression. The first, black Alaia had this WOW effect, especially for a mainstream fragrance.

  23. Arquiste L’Etrog today (different from L’Etrog Acqua). Not a huge fan of this; it’s gone within a few hours.

Portia, commiserations on Wendy’s passing. Always tough to lose a good friend.

  26. I had a stinkin’ stressful day at work but I knew it would be that way so no surprise there. It’s the early evening but I am exhausted so I might just head to bed and watch Burn Notice (it’s great! by the way). I am testing Houbigant Le Parfum Ideal in a decant from a bottle from the 1930s I think (it debuted in 1896…yowza!). It comes off strong at first but dries down to a soft powdery balsamic number…beautiful and not dated to my nose at all…..

    Like

    • It’s the morning after a fitful night of “sleep”…can still smell the Houbigant on the sleeve of my robe so may wear it again…my mistake…the decant I have is from the 1920s so even older than I thought…in my research I found out it has ambergris in it and I am guessing it’s the real deal…I might just wear it again today and have my co-worker give it a sniff to see what she thinks about it.
Be well all…..the weekend is or is almost here (depending on where you are in the world) Hope everyone has a peaceful day/evening xxoo

  27. Tom Ford Fougere Platine from PPP. Started out promisingly enough. All that you’d expect from a fougere but after an hour or so my eyes started to sting a bit. That’ll teach me to keep sticking my nose down my top for a good whiff. I must look a bit like I’m checking myself out😉. Lavender sometimes, but not always does that to me. I will pass this to himself and will enjoy smelling it on him, that way I won’t have eye issues.

  28. Stated off in L’heure Bleue, but post gym was running some bank errands in town so wandered through Harvey Nichols… who have just installed a big Gucci Alchemist’s Garden stand in the perfume department. It’s very pretty–if you dig the faux-Edwardian style. The scents, though… yeah. You could have guessed I would not be bowled over. The Iris one is rather nice–though as far from ISM as an iris can get. It’s soft and floral, and not at all rooty. The oil I tried was dished out in not-even-homeopathic doses. I snagged a sample of the Iris and put some more on as I left… yep. Nice. But an hour later it’s entirely gone. These are also a *lot* of money. £240 for 100ml for the edp. I am underwhelmed. But I am not the target. Someone who wants something luxurious and pretty and soft and light and nicely put together? GO, test them.

  29. 4.15 am Saturday morning. I’m so grateful to each and every one of you, for your support ,friendship ,and love. The last 2 nights paranoia has set in, and I’ve had dreams about returning home from work ,to find he and his mistress throwing my bottles of perfume onto the concrete in the driveway!!! My work colleagues have been supportive, which is great. And I had a compliment on my Goddess yesterday. I have family visiting from Melbourne later today, so better try and get some more sleep. I will wear Cool Water Sea Rose Caribbean Summer Edition for family visit, then Soul for work later tonight

  30. I chose Anubis today. I’m loving every single smokey second of it. Also I thought I would report some purchases 😱. Decants of both Salome and Dryad will soon be gracing my perfume cupboard. This does not break my low buy. I’ve tried them before in sample size and they’re not full bottles. Although, if the love remains after repeated wearings, yup! a full bottle purchase will be on. I very maturely resisted the temptation to throw in a bunch of samples, which annoys the piss out of me, but rules are rules. Also, the purchase was made with a 20% discount. So I’m clean. No slip-ups, yet 😬.

    • Stop it Marcella, you temptress!!! You know how much I want to try the Papillon range but I’m on a no-buy and I really want to pull it through until April/May. I’m sure after I’ve tried all the Papillons I’ll want at least one of them.
But I’m happy that you’ve found new perfume love 🙂

  31. I fell off the wagon. Tonight I had pizza, beer and cheesecake after having lost a pound from stress. Seems to rev up my metabolism. Tomorrow I start afresh with the diet and the exercise.
    Will wear Casablanca tonight.
My coworker says the 1920 Houbigant smells like “me”…powdery, soft and ladylike…..one of my good friends who also has a decant says it smells like decay and stale body powder on her…it never ceases to amaze me how our skin and our noses reflect perfume in different ways.

  33. Palindrome III by Santi Burgas is my last of the newbies from PPP. Oh wow, this is a beauty. Bloody good shit. Gorgeous citrus opening which melds nicely into a floral heart. Osmanthus isn’t used as commonly as other floral notes and it’s working very well with Rose here. Just checked the Santi Burgas site and It’s only available in 100 ml. Damn and blast! Not happening. Will watch for a large decant, though.
