Hi APJ,
A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.
You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.
SOTD 4.2 – 10.2.2019
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Go To It Crew.

NVC Pichola, I will get one more wear out of this sample, luckily it’s potent and doesn’t need much to create a big impression. I’m finding life very difficult and stressful… Crying myself to sleep every night… and often sleeping odd hours too. VERY ANGRY… all part of the grieving process. Anyway, today I’m going to wear Avon’s Goddess

Sounds trite maybe Saffy, but there is a beautiful song around now called Be Alright by Dean Lewis. Some wise lyrics there and he’s right, it will be alright, eventually.

Sorry your life feels like it’s crumbling around you Saffy. But I know it will improve, for sure. It will take some time, and anger is sort of good. A good punch-up with a pillow isn’t a bad idea. Keep yourself smelling beautiful.

Oh gosh. This is so hard. My youngest daughter had a relationship of five years go south this summer. He booted her out in favour of another ‘new’ toy. She’s just recently enrolled in kickboxing classes. She’s loving it and finding it a good release for her anger. Maybe find a physical outlet?

I had a stinkin’ stressful day at work but I knew it would be that way so no surprise there. It’s the early evening but I am exhausted so I might just head to bed and watch Burn Notice (it’s great! by the way). I am testing Houbigant Le Parfum Ideal in a decant from a bottle from the 1930s I think (it debuted in 1896…yowza!). It comes off strong at first but dries down to a soft powdery balsamic number…beautiful and not dated to my nose at all…..
LikeLike
It’s the morning after a fitful night of “sleep”…can still smell the Houbigant on the sleeve of my robe so may wear it again…my mistake…the decant I have is from the 1920s so even older than I thought…in my research I found out it has ambergris in it and I am guessing it’s the real deal…I might just wear it again today and have my co-worker give it a sniff to see what she thinks about it.
Be well all…..the weekend is or is almost here (depending on where you are in the world) Hope everyone has a peaceful day/evening xxoo

OMG, that sounds heavenly! It’s a true gem. Where did you find it Brigitte? On ebay?

No I got if from a freebie meet…someone inherited a bottle from her grandmother believe it or not…she mailed out a few decants and now is selling the remains of the bottle on ebay.

Tom Ford Fougere Platine from PPP. Started out promisingly enough. All that you’d expect from a fougere but after an hour or so my eyes started to sting a bit. That’ll teach me to keep sticking my nose down my top for a good whiff. I must look a bit like I’m checking myself out😉. Lavender sometimes, but not always does that to me. I will pass this to himself and will enjoy smelling it on him, that way I won’t have eye issues.

Are you allergic to lavender, Cassie?

Some lavender really doesn’t like me. I’m not allergic as such, but it makes my eyes sting. It doesn’t happen with all lavender frags, though. It’s a curious one🤔

Stated off in L’heure Bleue, but post gym was running some bank errands in town so wandered through Harvey Nichols… who have just installed a big Gucci Alchemist’s Garden stand in the perfume department. It’s very pretty–if you dig the faux-Edwardian style. The scents, though… yeah. You could have guessed I would not be bowled over. The Iris one is rather nice–though as far from ISM as an iris can get. It’s soft and floral, and not at all rooty. The oil I tried was dished out in not-even-homeopathic doses. I snagged a sample of the Iris and put some more on as I left… yep. Nice. But an hour later it’s entirely gone. These are also a *lot* of money. £240 for 100ml for the edp. I am underwhelmed. But I am not the target. Someone who wants something luxurious and pretty and soft and light and nicely put together? GO, test them.

Yes Crikey, I’ve seen the bottles. Very pretty and nicely done. I’ve not tried any and have no interest in doing so. I doubt they’re my style.

Hmph, more aspirational pricing🙄

no kidding… especially when they are designed to layer… an EDP and oil, or EDP and EDT together… so you are doubling that price. Ugh.

The way you described it, I’m not tempted to try them at all. Thanks anyway!

Aye, it’s pretty obvious I was underwhelmed. I think the ones I sniffed were pretty insipid, but tastes vary so much I know that other people would love the delicacy.

4.15 am Saturday morning. I’m so grateful to each and every one of you, for your support ,friendship ,and love. The last 2 nights paranoia has set in, and I’ve had dreams about returning home from work ,to find he and his mistress throwing my bottles of perfume onto the concrete in the driveway!!! My work colleagues have been supportive, which is great. And I had a compliment on my Goddess yesterday. I have family visiting from Melbourne later today, so better try and get some more sleep. I will wear Cool Water Sea Rose Caribbean Summer Edition for family visit, then Soul for work later tonight

I chose Anubis today. I’m loving every single smokey second of it. Also I thought I would report some purchases 😱. Decants of both Salome and Dryad will soon be gracing my perfume cupboard. This does not break my low buy. I’ve tried them before in sample size and they’re not full bottles. Although, if the love remains after repeated wearings, yup! a full bottle purchase will be on. I very maturely resisted the temptation to throw in a bunch of samples, which annoys the piss out of me, but rules are rules. Also, the purchase was made with a 20% discount. So I’m clean. No slip-ups, yet 😬.

Stop it Marcella, you temptress!!! You know how much I want to try the Papillon range but I’m on a no-buy and I really want to pull it through until April/May. I’m sure after I’ve tried all the Papillons I’ll want at least one of them.
But I’m happy that you’ve found new perfume love 🙂

I’ve read so many favourable reviews of Queen Latifah’s scents. Unfortunately they’re not available on our market, just like SJP. Does anyone from Europe know where they can be found?

Not in Fragrancenet? I have seen them there in the past.

Yes, they are on Fragrancenet but they are not Europe based and that includes high shipping costs and possible customs duties.

I fell off the wagon. Tonight I had pizza, beer and cheesecake after having lost a pound from stress. Seems to rev up my metabolism. Tomorrow I start afresh with the diet and the exercise.
Will wear Casablanca tonight.
My coworker says the 1920 Houbigant smells like “me”…powdery, soft and ladylike…..one of my good friends who also has a decant says it smells like decay and stale body powder on her…it never ceases to amaze me how our skin and our noses reflect perfume in different ways.

Palindrome III by Santi Burgas is my last of the newbies from PPP. Oh wow, this is a beauty. Bloody good shit. Gorgeous citrus opening which melds nicely into a floral heart. Osmanthus isn’t used as commonly as other floral notes and it’s working very well with Rose here. Just checked the Santi Burgas site and It’s only available in 100 ml. Damn and blast! Not happening. Will watch for a large decant, though.
