SOTD 18.2 – 24.2.2019

Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 18.2 – 24.2.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

    • I bet you are, P! The MdO line, believe it or not, is a new discovery for me (thanks to the generosity of a fellow APJer)….have loved two enough to thunk them (Oud and Tuberose)….will definitely do some more exploring in the future.

  1. Oh Portia, how are you getting on with Myrrh Cassati? I should have a sample somewhere and I remember loving it. And it is on sale. And you smell lovely.

Wearing Rozy EdP from a sample. Oh boy, I am falling for Vero like a rock. She is one of the reasons I am happily down a renewed rabbithole, together with AA’s Tanja. Vero’s fragrances do remind me in some ways of Mona di Orio’s ones (Rozy reminds me of Rose Etoile de Hollande), but I do think Vero’s perfumes are much more prismatic to borrow a term Kafka (used to?) use(s).

  2. Yesterday a girlfriend from my school days who knows about my passion for perfume brought me a mini of Halston 1-12 which she found hidden in her apartment ❤
Today I've spilled it on my neck, wrists, hair…I'm remembering all the guys I've met during the eighties who used to wear great perfumes back then 🙂

  3. And I’m remembering a particular guy back in the 70’s who used to wear a great perfume as well. And it ain’t my mister 🤨.
Speaking of Halston, I remember wearing one a long time ago. The bottle was a very fluid shape. Almost like a smoothly worn river rock. The size of my palm. Weird ivory coloured cap and dark amber liquid. Anyone have any ideas what this could be??????

        • You inspired me. I had a rough day with a colicking horse while I was at my new job. Dealing with calls and vets and three hours at the barn after work. I got home and needed rose and peony. Rose lifts me. I sprayed on Rosa Pop because you put it in my head this morning! What’s your fave Guerlain AA? I think mine might be Winter Delice though I do love Pamplelune and Herba Fresca in summer.

          • I’m very sorry to hear you had a bad day.I’m pleased I inspired you to spray Rosa Pop. I’ve got a few AA’s. I can’t really say which is my favourite, I love them all .I do like Limon Verde, very fresh.

  5. In my first wearing of Bogue 07738.

Please don’t ask me to analyse it in any useful way–even if I was a note-hunter and unpicker of scent threads, it would be impossible. The best I can do for now is wave my hands around, say “spiced, chypre, resinous floral” and smile very broadly. And I’m still only about three hours in… This is a swirling, rich, many-angled creature of gorgeousness. And it has everything in it; before he revealed that it is “bello” as written on a calculator, I would have guessed 7738 ingredients. It is absolutely a Bogue perfume, and clearly one of that complicated beautiful family.

You know I am a Gardoni fan girl, but, so far the only downside I can see with this perfume is the extremely limited amounts in the world.

    • I had to research Bogue 07738, sounds glorious. Sadly bottle sold out at Luckyscent. Bogue makes beautiful fragrance, I like Maai.

      • I’m glad that I didn’t hesitate, because it was sold out in under 24 hours after release.

I’m hoping that jtd (scenthurdle) or ClaireV (Take One Thing Off) write proper, informed reviews that express their experience of it more coherently than I can.

      • Your review was great and piqued my interest to do more research!
Wow, sold out that fast? You did well getting a bottle right away!

finally showered and am wearing my homemade body oil of lavender, patchouli and labdanum…patchouli reminds me of jytosna (forgive the misspelling) and I hope she is OK…

also, a spritz of Eau de Lierre from my vintage bottle gifted to me by a very generous APJer…I guess it was languishing in her collection so she sent it my way knowing I would love it….and I do….no doubt in my mind it will be thunked some time in 2019….especially if I keep wearing it…..and I really want to keep wearing it…so green and so spring like…puts me in a better mood….

  7. Happy Monday everybody 😄 I’m having a great day – scored myself a bottle of Tendre Poison earlier. And it didn’t cost a king’s ransom either. In Frangipani today.

  8. It’s snowing and a day off school for Presidents Day. Husband and son went skiing but with our yo-yo weather (warm/cold/rain/snow) apparently the conditions are terrible but at least it’s not crowded. I’m wearing Alien, because it’s neglected and it’s not a “school day” perfume!

  11. as part of downsizing process, I sprayed a bunch of perfumes to see if anything changes me mind at the last minute and so far no though they got mixed up so I had trouble knowing which one was which 😀 those going away are Byredo Baudelaire, Mont Blanc Starwalker (I love Starwalker name due to my obsession with space and space is the reason I got in the first place but the perfume could not have been more banal), Dsquared2 Potion EDT for him, L’Artisan Mure et Musc Extreme, L’Artisan Nuit de Tubereuse (have lot of tuberose perfumes already and this does not seem to add much to what’s already out there), and few Carthusias such as fiori de capri and caprissimo. Didn’t spray Carthusias though did take a quick bottle sniffs of them.

    • Congrats on your decision to go through with the downsizing. I understand that you should be careful because if you give away something you’ll miss in the end, you’ll have to pay at least twice the price to get it back.

  13. Greg- hello! Wondering if you have any other Histories de Parfums in your basket for the markets- would you have any 1826 or 1899??

    Like

    • How interesting! Did you decant it from a larger bottle or did you reformulate the whole bottle?
I’m a bit jealous of your mixing skills. You can improve any perfume you don’t like 😉

      Like

      • decanted from a large bottle. Then I doctored it up. I usually start with a smaller 3-5 ml decant in case it doesn’t work. But thus far I have had good success. The eau de Merveilles serves as an excellent base for neroli, patchouli or sandalwood e.o.s as well. If you’re daring you can also add bergamot to brighten up any vintage that has lost its top notes.

      • I only came up with it because I could barely smell EdM on me…wonder if there is a dominant note I am anosmic to? With the added e.o.s I can finally smell it!

RIP Karl Lagerfeld – my mid-70s Chloe love started me on this path.

    • Greg, if you are willing to ship abroad, please let us know when and where you will post your perfumes for sale. Among 100 perfumes there must be something for everyone 😉

      Like

      • Sorry Neva, but I’d be breaking the law to ship abroad. For some stupid reason neither Australia Post not couriers will ship perfume because it’s hazardous. When i ask them how did all that perfume get ti almost every town in Australia if it can’t be shipped, I get no answer. I can run the risk domestically, but international packages are much more likely to be checked.

        Like

        • Same story here, Greg. Cannot post any liquids outside the country. And yet, I buy most of my perfume from outside the country so it’s obviously a total nonsense. Yet more rules and regs the try to foist upon us.

          Like

          • It is indeed complete and utter nonsense. There must be perfumes being freighted to all parts of Australia every single day for decades on end, and never a single instance of any hazardous incident. The whole thing is a complete joke based on zero evidence, and only applied to individuals. Companies can ship as much of the stuff as they want to, wherever they want to send it.

          • Aside from Bretagne two others that come to mind are Greylocke (salt, vetiver and apple blossom) and Leau Froide (Serge Lutens) which I am assuming it has a salty vibe because it smells kinda savory/salty to me…..there may be some sort of seaweed note in there and seaweed always brings salt to mind for me……I think I am somewhat inline with Kate’s post on “food/perfume” cravings in this conversation 🙂

Yesterday evening it was mb02 from Biehl Parfumkunstwerke for my swing class. I think the whole place smelled of it afterwards but my friends don’t bother to comment anymore. In the beginning they were asking what perfumes I was wearing but the wouldn’t know any of them.

  26. I’ve been staying late in my little office. Mr. LH has some confounded new project going on in his workshop. Making birdhouses and ‘restoring’ old garden tools. Scythe, anyone? Nice and shiny! Anyhow, this seems to require the simultaneous use of every power tool down there. For prolonged periods of time. So, the ‘away’ office it is. And yesterday that little office was awash in the glorious, old world glamour of MAAI. Stunning. My daughters came bearing gifts last night! Not my birthday, just ‘because’ they said. I guess they got fed up hearing me whine about my no sample pergatory and wanting to get my nose on Bogue. So decants of both MEM and MAAI are now in my grubby hands. It will be MAAI again today because it was just that good.

The reason was that the guy I was dating since the beginning of the year has decided to break up with me. He was very kind and all, no hard feelings, but I feel such an enormous sadness. It will pass eventually, I know. I deliberately didn’t want to associate any perfume with this phase.
Tonight I’ll go to a birthday party and I think I’ll wear Cassie’s sample of vintage Magie Noire. It will boost my confidence for sure 🙂
