Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 4.3 – 10.3.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

      • Hey Neva,
It’s really interesting. The notes are mostly blended beyond my control to parse unless it’s right on me at that moment but my mind smells rice cooking. Jin has this huge old rice cooker from Korea that emits a smell like nothing else, not like but akin to the smell of bacon in the morning as you wake. An eerily siren like call that makes my mouth water and my tummy rumble.

    • That’s a good one…the immortelle really bloomed on my skin in the cold.
Same here…more snow and more shoveling this morning.

  3. SOTD L’Occitane Pierre Hervé Pamplemousse-Rhubarbe edt. I could have needed something more of an anti-crap shield today.

Rolled oats with soy milk for breakfast, because nobody ordered new bread for me after last Wednesday. At that point they had served me moulded bread twice (I could taste it, not see it) and on closer inspeection a whole loaf of bread had to be thrown away because of visible blue patches on the surface when I confronted staff about it. For lunch today exactly four table spoons of mixed greens and for dinner a mushy mix of onion, rice, potato cubes and a totally off seasoning with basically just lots of cayenne pepper. How difficult is it to serve dishes without egg, milk and rye?? Not that those eating primarily non -vegetarian get much better food, no wonder the elderly drop weight! Thankfully friends and relatives visit and bring food to supplement, but it shouldn’t be this way. This is the drawback of nearly free healthcare and the general public is not interested for long enough, so changes seldom happen. Rant over, and I’ll try not to repeat tomorrow.

    • That sounds revolting. Obviously these facilities aren’t subject to spot checks. It’s disgraceful that substandard food is served to elderly and sick people.

    • OMG, I really thought this happens only around here. Although it has changed for the better in recent years.
How long do you need to stay at the hospital?

      Like

      • The thing is I have food intolerances, not allergies creating allergic shock, so it is not taken seriously. This is a care institution, not a hospital, so lots of unskilled staff.

I’m going for the main checkup on March 29 at the hospital, but fear I will be told I cannot step on the foot before the month of May! No going home before I can walk on both feet, my bathroom is tiny with a high threshold the way it was usual in the 30s. I just don’t master jumping on one foot due to permanent disability, that’s why I ended up here instead of going straight home from hospital.

Today i got your samples, Portia! Will test them soon.

  5. If I can’t grow a little moustache, at least a can wear a little Moustache. Like me, this is vintage as well.

Monday I wore Juniper Sling. It was a day to forget, with the aquarium springing a leak and the power going out briefly in a thunderstorm, further frying the aquarium. Not good, but fixed now, I hope.

  6. I wore Le Labo for Anthopologie Belle du Soir something since it is about to be sold. I got it before I accumulated Deneuve because online reviews said it is similar to Deneuve and it used to be cheaper when i acquired it

  7. Yesterday was Jil, by Jil Sander. A cross between a cinnamon bun and CK Secret Obsession. Good staying power. Today was Queen Latifah but I had a brain fade and forgot to spray another round before walking out the door. Was too busy thinking about my coffee 😆🤦‍♀️ And I forgot to turn off kitchen lights and left my phone on the table!

  12. Wearing Estee today. I keep having a dream where my hubby and his new fling are throwing my perfume bottles onto the concrete driveway. To prevent it from becoming reality, I am packing most of my bottles away and farming them out to friends.
So I will select just 10 bottles which are suitable for cold climes to wear until they are thunked.

    • Hang in there Saffy. I don’t think the dream is about them, might be more about what you’ve lost and how you feel. Don’t let them beat you, hold on to the things that make you happy. Glad to see you here and it’s a bit spooky as I posted you a little package today xx

    • A recurring dream…how strange. Melanie is right, it’s the fear of loss of something that’s precious to you. It will be all right eventually, Saffy. I send you hugs!

They are all interesting but you already know my favorite is the Reglisse!
Tomorrow I will test Must de Cartier…that was a huge love of mine in the 80s for reasons too numerous to mention !

  15. I had a fantastic Wednesday. I was shouted lunch by my neighbour…gorgeously fluffy yolky white clouds of egg, spinach, mushrooms and tomatoes washed down by a hot chocolate. I got home, put uniforms in wash, then dryer. Was just about to have a glass of wine, listen to some Simply Red and chillax a little. then work rang offering me a few hours work…even the secretary picked me up…saving taxi money…yippee. A work colleague dropped me off, and we just spent 2 hours packing boxes of miscellaneous items..{oh my gosh so many Christmas related things!!!!} My friend found a vial of Olympic Orchids Blackbird, so I’m wearing that to bed.

  17. Nicolai Sacrebleu Intense today. Yesterday it was Tauer Wowilla oil, because I was completely paralyzed when I opened my perfume closet. Today wasn’t much better, I have this feeling like I’m missing something that I really should be wearing in this cold weather (except not all of them are work-appropriate for me, so there’s that….) I really love Sacrebleu Intense so it never feels like a bad choice.

    • Must de Cartier is wonderful for whatever reason 🙂 Yes, I know what you mean – it seems that in 1984 we were different people than today. So much has changed and it almost feels like it all happened in another life.

      • Yes! This is it! and also, how something smells familiar and yet different…if that makes any sense…it’s interesting because back then I did not know the notes…now that I do I am smelling it differently.

    • Olfactory hallucination? Sounds great! And imagine how lucky you are to have the matching perfume at hand 😉 I love Givenchy III and always look for it on ebay. One day I’ll pull the trigger for sure. I hope it’ll still feel wonderful as in the eighties.

      • My bottle is from the 80-es, I don’t know what the current (more or less) juice smells like, I do hope it’s still a beauty.

Yes, these things are fun: sometimes I get iris, yesterday afternoon it was blackberry. I might stop buying perfume altogether if this phenomenon keeps on happening, lol.

  21. Tamango de Leonard. I used to wear it in the eighties and went through two bottles back then. The current bottle is newer and something’s missing. The earlier version was sweeter, the rose and other flowers more prominent but somehow I like the newer version too. It’s perfect for a sunny spring day.
Btw. where’s Marcella? …and I hoped Jyotsna would join in again…

  27. I was really having a hard time to decide what to wear for a Jiveswing weekend with four hours of swing and jazz workshops per day with two fantastic teachers from the UK. i knew there was going to be much sweating so it had to be something pleasant also for my dancing partners. I decided on Asphalt Rainbow from Charenton Macerations – flowers softened with a strange smell of paint on asphalt. It is not overwhelming but feels cozy and nice.
For the evening dance with the live swing band it’ll have to be something more powerful. I don’t know yet…
