SOTD: 11.3 – 17.3.2019

Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD: 11.3 – 17.3.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Testing Moab this morning courtesy the lovely Mrs. M. A terrific dry woody note has me intrigued, but an uncomfortable musk fogs it in. I much prefer Hepcat from the same line and will enjoy thunking that one once the spring weather arrives. In about…….79 days? 🙄

    • Moab reads super sweet on my skin and has a Tauer vibe to my nose. Let me know how Hepcat works for you in warmer weather. I might just have to send you some more 😃

      • Sweet?? Wow, that’s sooo interesting. Very different on me, but I think you’ve mentioned that your skin amps up sweet notes and I think there’s vanilla in Moab. I think my skin powers up musks, maybe? I get the same musk driven overload with Heaven 🧐

        • That’s hysterical. It never ceases to amaze me how different our skin can react to various perfumes. Heaven is all about the lily of the valley on me.
I love hearing your take on all of these and happy that work has gotten a bit more normal for you to enjoy sampling again.

      • Fath de Fath is new to me and I’m loving it. I’m not familiar with Expression by Fath. I need to research! Is it still available, and What do you like about it?

        • I’ve worn it in the eighties and I’m a huge lover of seventies/eighties perfume. I think Portia reminded me of it in a post (don’t remember where) so I went ebaying and I suspect it will turn to ebuying soon 😉
Fath de Fath is a new version?

          • Amazing! After reading about Expression on Fragrantica, I recognized the bottle shape and sure enough I have a mini in storage! It is a beautiful chypre style fragrance. I also adore vintage, and am exploring 70s and 80s perfumes. The Fath de Fath that I purchased is the reformulated from 1993 and I love it. I’d love to sniff the original, but very pricy on eBay.

  2. Overslept
Slathered the body with my vanilla bean and cardamom all natural oil and sprayed myself silly with the lilac lovely Brigitte

      • I am very glad! It has a beautiful jasmin woven through the scent, and all and all it feels more slippery (in a good sense, like a very soft t-shirt) than the EdP (which I also adore). I am so glad that I gave Vero Profumo a try, I don’t know why I didn’t before. I think I bought a sample of Mito years back, but wasn’t ready for it and dismissed the whole line, we human beings can be very silly if not stupid!

  3. CDG 2 Man, with extra frankincense–I got the dust and sticky resin all over my hands when taking photographs of piles of the stuff this morning. Smells great.

  4. I’m wearing Silver Couture, which I blind bought during the Ganache Parfums closing sale. It’s a soft, dreamy orange musk.

  5. Monday I wore Cologne du 68. I think this will be getting more of an outing as we move into autumn. I tend to prefer more overt citrusy colognes when it’s really hot, so this one is better suited to cooler times.

  6. Finally testing Byredo Pulp. Only took me over ten years before trying it. I had an idea in my head that this was going to be to fruity what Carnal Flower is to floral. How wrong I was. It’s much brighter and sparklier than I imagined. It has good longevity and decent sillage. Like it very much but I don’t think I need any more than my large sample. It’s reminding me of something. . . 🤔

  7. I decided to tackle my samples this week, but sadly got Cozé Verde today. This will not be used again, hate the synthetic wood note. Maybe i can thunk one of my samples this week, will see how it goes.
The boyfriend landed safely in Budapest and is having nice meals at nice restaurants, i envy him!

  8. I am home now and rather than eating I am speed sampling….just received a glorious package of vials strategically placed between tea bags….fantastic! an MVMPP (marcellavmiller perfume package) So…..even my knuckles are smelling good as i needed extra skin space for Jeux de Peau (yum! is that hazelnut I smell????), Santal Nabataea (double yum) Vientiane (more yum) Heart of Darkness (mmmm…would like to try this one out on Mr M), Sky Father (also…try it out on Mr M), Earth Mother (soft and cuddly musk), Xeroff Uden (tamer than I was anticipating), Tobacco Rose (need to try this one in the cold), Angelique (oh yes! Now I see what the fuss is about with this house and now i need to try Dryad), Remarkable People ( I want to eat my arm now…it;s so succulent!!), Bal DAfrique (have been wanting to try this one for ages! It’s another vetiver that I very much like…vetiver can be tricky for me..this one is fantastic) and finally the very first one I tried Caron Pour Un Homme….holy cow, this one threw me for a loop…someone in my distant past wore this but I cannot for the life of me figure out who? Must have been someone I worked with and was too shy to ask what he was wearing… I really love it…I can see this being someone’s signature scent…and yup, I needs me a bottle…I could pretty much douse myself in this one.

Ok so for the next few days I will pace myself and wear one at a time…I promise!

    Merci beaucoup, Marcella! xoxoxoxoxoxo

  9. Bottega Veneta Eau De Velours and love it!!!! I don’t remember how original Bottega smells like (got it few years ago and it is somewhere in boxes) and recently got L’Absolu, too. I think so far Eau de Velours is the best of the three though you can def. tell both L’ Absolu and Eau de Velours are related to each other. I may say Velours come across as more fruity maybe, not the sweet sugary fruity but dense fruity, if that makes sense.

    • Good thing it was the oil, else it probably would have disappeared in more like four minutes. Demeter has some cute scents, but they are usually quite fleeting.

      • Well it was four hours before I noticed it; it was probably gone well before then. I have been sitting around in a fug today because the pathologist screwed up by blood samples and the entry point wouldn’t stop bleeding. On top of a bout of insomnia, I’ve been feeling like shit all day as a result.

  11. Mugler Chyprissime (thank you Cassie for the sample of this lovely scent)…and THUNK!
I’m going to have my permanent make up redone so I want to smell nice for myself. When I think of the pain that’s awaiting me I’ll need good comfort afterwards :-/

    • Ooh, ouch😬 What makeup do you have done? I’ve given a tiny bit of thought to having some done but am too chicken. My daughter’s mum-in-law has her eyes and lips done and it looks very subtle.

      • This time I’ve had only the lips corrected a bit. A month ago I did the complete lips. I do lips and eyebrows for many years now but it hurts every time, of course. It’s great for women with a fair complexion. I can really recommend it andI was lucky to have found a very professional PMU artist.

  12. Heeley Eau Sacrée. This is funereal incense, the most realistic I have smelled. But without causing me to cough and rub my eyes. It’s rather quiet on me, whispering softly rather than screeching. Verrry nice indeed.

  13. Just popping in to say hi! I’m trying to spend less time on social media and frankly, I haven’t even worn any perfume lately. Maybe I need something new or just am temporarily bored. Will know for sure as soon as something new arrives, I guess 🙂

Hope you all are having a great week.

  15. A while ago I took all my various samples and bagged them together by house. As you do. Today I pulled out a random bag, and it contains a few Ex Nihilo samples, which I plan to wear the rest of this week.

So today is Oud Vendome. Instinctively it seems a bit early still to be wearing oud, but I think the autumn has definitely arrived now, and this one feels pretty right.

    • Yes indeed. I really like that and have had the travel spray in and out of my cart multiple times. One of these days I will actually buy it!

And the greenest greens and polleny lilies of Beaufort’s Fathom V today.

    • Both very yummy roses 🙂
My relationship with Beaufort is not an easy one, but Fathom V is nice. It reminds me of the smell of a flower shop when you first enter it, green and a bit aquatic.

  19. My 2 scents of the day, courtesy of my friend. She sprayed J o Malone Black Cedarwood and Juniper on one arm…. Cade Cedarwood on the other arm. I thought that they might be a bit too “Woody” for my taste, but I’m pleasantly surprised how nice they are.

    Like

    • Both sound lovely to me. Jo Malone used to have Sweet Cedar and Lime in their line and that one was discontinued. Maybe one of the two cedarwood combinations that you mention could be a nice replacement. Thanks, Matty 🙂

  20. Another day, another Ex Nihilo sample. This time it’s Venenum Kiss. I’m probably getting less of the nutmeg than I hoped for, and the rose is coming through very early, but I still like this a lot. It’s my favourite so far.

    • YUP, I figured that was for me. I loved both fragrances but they were both fleeting on me. And I dumped both vials in one fell swoop. I think these would require many lavish sprays on my scent devouring skin.

  26. My last Ex Nihilo sample today is Sweet Morphine. Clearly a floral at the outset, this did not do much for me. I dried down to a nice base of vetiver and a bit of iris. Not really my thing, but I have to give marks for longevity – at least 12 hours.

  27. Dusita Oudh Infini. That’s a true love: it reminds me of some tree bark. As soon as it gets warm (and if I don’t forget to do it), I’ll need to go to the park and smell all the trees there to find the one that smells like OI.

I received my package with Dusita Issara and Melodie de l’amour and a few samples a couple days ago so sorry guys, I probably will bore you to death talking about them all. I can’t help it!.
