Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD: 18.3 – 24.3.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. I got a little, wee, vintage bottle of Alyssa Ashley’s Illegale and love it for the springtime: lily, hyacinth, oakmoss and musk.

  2. Sonoma scent Studio Equestrian. It’s my big week as a preschool music teacher – the parents are coming in to observe classes. Needed something that never fails me!

  3. My hand slipped as I was applying Russian Oud…ooopsies, half a vial on my arm! Just about the right amount IMHO!

  4. Jolie Madame, vintage EDT. Top notes are less than perfect, but she’s still kicking arse and not smudging her lipstick. Ever.

  5. Champagne, cos it’s the day after our national holiday and I’m still celebrating with friends. And they keep arriving!

  6. I did a bunch of so don’t know what I am really smelling on my skin. I sprayed morabito or black, bogner deep forest, dior homme intense, and maybe two sprays of incense ultramarine wildsurf, too. its a confusing result because they are all so different from each other. Three of these are going to be listed for sale so I guess I was having last fun with them. Morabito is semi-vintage and I have lot of vintage Or black so selling the semi-vintage version. Dior Homme Intense is a favorite so it is the only one that is not going for sale.

    • How do you rate the DHI against the regular Dior Homme? (Which I love for myself, but also appreciate on mr crikey.)

      Like

      • My most favorite version is really Dior Homme in original version (it has been reformulated few times since its introduction). DHI is kind of a gourmand version of DH, adds bakery tones but sacrifices the sparkle of DH. DHI is better suited to cold weather and preferably night social events. DH is versatile and works all year. They both have that iris but I think lipsticky iris works better with DH formula than DHI. If I have to lose all of my DHI bottles, I will be sad but it will not be the end of the world. On the other hand, if I have to lose DH, my collection will always feel empty. I love DH so much that I think it is the best ever perfume created in the 21st century, men or women, designer or niche.

        • thank you, that was really helpful and gives me a good sense of the differences. I think I’ll steer clear of the bakery, and carry on with the original 🙂

          • Good decision 🙂 But if you want a gourmand fragrance with iris, DHI is better than most of the gourmand perfumes out there. However, I would not suggest it as a replacement for Dior Homme which I believe is def. the best.

  7. Monday was Formidable Man and today was Chanel Pour Monsieur. Neither of them impressed by barista much, but that’s OK because the hot redhead has been replaced by a tattooed bloke with a beard.

  8. Today wearing Bvlgari Thé Bleu. First two days of parents went pretty well although not as many came for the 4 year old class – was disappointed for the kids whose parents forgot or didn’t want to make the time. Seeing their faces as they walk in and don’t see mom or dad or grandma – 😢. Two more days to go. Thanks for the well wishes. Off now to teach a flute lesson, and then playing flute with the praise band at church tonight. Might need a more energizing perfume!!

    • Oh, I love it…I would buy a vintage bottle but Chanel 19 is so popular on ebay and in such cases there are lots of fakes being sold. Where did you get yours?

      Like

      • eBay. With the splash/dabber there is always a risk that it has been refilled with something else, particularly given that people buy and sell empty bottles and boxes. But, if you are scammed with a fake, you should be able to get a refund through ebay and/or paypal. I’ve been lucky, though. I keep a close eye on what the seller has a history of buying as well as selling–looking for those empties–and how they describe and photograph things.

        • I didn’t know one could check the seller’s buying and selling history. That’s new to me. You’re right, one can draw many conclusions from it. Thanks for the tip!

  11. Another top pick for spring, Goutal La Violette. There is nothing challenging here. It’s an unabashedly innocent and feminine green-violet-rose thing, doesn’t last long but lovely while it lasts – if you like violets!

  14. Ostara. I saw a good bargain on eBay and decided to give my sample another try and maybe get a FB but no, it doesn’t work on my skin, in fact, it hates me. That’s okay, no biggie, plenty more fish in the sea..

Pacific Rock Moss by Goldfiel & Banks. Definitely a hark back to the 1990s locker room fragrances at gyms worldwide. Pacific Rock Moss is a sparkling, briny, moss and greenery heavy fresh scent that is fitting perfectly into this drizzly Parramatta morning.

      • I’m on a bit of a “no-buy” wagon at the moment, and I don’t think this one would be my highest priority should I fall off it. It was certainly long-lasting, but I’d sample before buying. I got this sample from Mecca, so that is possible.

  17. Hello all. It is Thursday pm here… just home from work. Oh my Lordy…..I had such a busy shift, and my back is really feeling it. I wore Aromatics in Black to work. I couldn’t wait until I got home so I could have a hot shower to soothe my aching back. I’m now wearing 2 competing scents; deep heat and Fancy by Jessica Simpson.

    • It’s probably due to the full moon, Cassie. I’m sorry. By Missoni you mean the first Missoni from the eighties, right?

      Like

      • You know, I never even thought of that! Of course. Plus my sinuses are causing havoc again, even my eyes are swollen. This Missoni is 2006, from the bottle that looks drunk (to me anyway) and is mostly chocolate orange. I find it easy and undemanding

  21. Today I was trying out Papillon’s Angelique…it’s a strange perfume – very soft and powdery flowers with iris root in the beginning and then it gets a strange note which reminds me of gum, you know, like tyres. I don’t get the gum on the paper strip but on my skin it’s very prominent although the perfume is soft and totally close to the skin. I couldn’t feel anything after 15 minutes so I was spraying the whole day and the tester will be gone by the time I’ll go to bed.

Of course the current stress I’m under hasn’t helped. Yesterday I thunked YSL M7 Oud Absolu. {it was Craig’s 20th Anniversary gift brought in Hobart} . Well the girl I was working with had to be reassigned because she had a reaction ie kept sneezing. She asked… are you wearing perfume? Oh Duh. of course I am!!! She sneezes and says I shouldn’t be allowed to!!! my response was ‘Wow, good thing I chose a subtle scent!!! 30 years I have been nursing and this is the first time EVER I have had an issue!!!!!! Today I am wearing Kerosene Unknown Pleasures . Portia enjoy your democracy sausage

  25. Chamade edt, the 2013 batch. It’s so good that I’m seriously contemplating getting a bottle: it’s rare when a modern Guerlain seems like a better option for me than vintage C.: the latter has too much hyacinth for my taste. Or maybe I’m just sour grapes and don’t want to pay through the nose for another vintage 🙂

    • Interesting…will have to give the current formulation a sniff next time I see it in the wild. I don’t blame you for not wanting to pay vintage prices. I bet you can get current for a great price at the online discounters.
