Hey Hey APJ,
Last weeks Veil by Oliver + Co winners are MMKinPA, Verbenaluvvr, Greg and Fragrant Wanderer
(Please send me your address to portia (_) turbo (at) yahoo (.) com (.) au even if I’ve sent you stuff before. I don’t keep your addresses on file here)
Today we are talking about a re-release of the 2014 P Frapin & Cie favourite Nevermore. Totally reformulated to make it more approachable and saleable. It’s very easy to tell the difference between the original and modern because the modern juice is clear, like water. I was given the Press Bottle by Libertine Parfumerie at their seasonal update recently.
Nevermore by P Frapin & Cie
Anne-Sophie Behaghel
Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Aldehydes, nutmeg, black pepper, rose, amber, atlas cedar, saffron
Nevermore is a queer bird. It opens like road base in the rain. The aldehydes, black pepper and maybe nutmeg/rose combo are like something dark, inky, wet and arctic. It’s like opening a brand new geometry set as a kid, the metallic and plastic smell so fresh and new.
The only thing I can compare it to (and they are not the same but have a similar scent feeling) is the later stages of Byredo Black Saffron. I repeat, not the same but they share a style.
Even so, this modern Nevermore is infinitely more wearable and approachable than my memory of the original.
Leave a comment below. Four lucky people from anywhere in the world will get a decant.
Have you tried any P Frapin & Cie?

I’ve tried these:
Paradis Perdu
Passion Boisee
Terre de Sarment
Speakeasy
Caravelle Epicee
The Orchid Man
L’Humaniste
Nevermore
1270
1697
I hated Nevermore. Hate. It smelled to me like an herbal bandaid with no rose at all. Bitter and ugly. I would be interested to try the reform! I loved the name.

So excited to win the Oliver & co! Thank you! Haven’t tried any Frapin- add to the miles long list of houses that haven’t crossed my sampling desk. Nevermore sounds like one of those that I would sniff to appreciate its weirdness but not ever wear….

I’m not familiar with Frapin, but I love their perfume bottles! I agree with MMKinPA, Nevermore would be interesting to sniff to appreciate the composition, but I’d never want to wear it per the description.

I’m not familiar with Frapin either. I’d also like a sniff but don’t think I’d want to purchase it.

I bought l’hummaniste recently and love it, shame about the performance though. Would love to try more though starting with this one!

I’ve tried a few and own 1297, but not Nevermore. Sounds like an odd one.

I haven’t come across Frapin perfumes so far but would like to try Nevermore for the name alone.

Nevermore sounds promising, plus the name!. Colour me intrigued 🙂
I;ve only tried the Orchid Man I received from Portia, loved it (the sample is almost empty which says something considering how seldom I actually thunk them).
Congratulations to all the Nebula winners!

I own two from the brand including their original 1697 absolu and original 1270 in circular bottle. Never tried Nevermore original or latest but I remember your previous review in which you said you didnt like original but do like the reformulation. Thanks for the draw.

Haven’t tried any Frapin and I always say to myself I’ve tried enough rose based scents but I keep going back to them! Have been using atlas cedar oil most of this week so I’d probably like this with the mindset I’m in at the moment.

Very chuffde to have won the Oliver & Co. Thank you. That will be in the “new smells” thread soon.
I’ve tried a heap of Frapin. My favourite is 1697; lovely warm booze, as you’d expect from a cognac house. Also tried Speakeasy, L’Humaniste, Paradis Perdu, Caravelle Epicee, Terre de Sarment and 1270. Haven’t tried Nevermore yet, but I like the concept.

Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.” You had me at geometry set ❤ I love dark plasticy scents & the name is perfect. Would love to get my nose on this.
The only Frapin I have tried is Passion Boisée which is delicious. Very rich and dry – like a fine whiskey.

Road base in the rain – super intriguing. Love to sniff it! I’ve not tried much of this house except for Orchid Man (thanks to a Portia sample) and that was A-Mazing. Loved it! I have read that one of Frapin’s (maybe 1270 or 1697) is a good cover for LArtisan Vanille Absolument.

I’ve only tried a handful from this house, my favourite so far is Terre de Sarment. I’ve come close to getting a bottle a few times but I’m just not *emotional* enough about it. It’s a great fragrance, I can’t fault it so I’m not sure what’s going on with that!

I just bought 1270 and have sniffed a couple others but I’d love to try Nevermore.
