Hi APJ,
A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.
You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.
SOTD 1.4 – 7.4.2019
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Go To It Crew.

Finally getting around to sorting out my fragrances as I have wanted to make some decants for a friend for a long time, but I get nervous about doing them for some reason. Then I worry that what I send won’t be the right ones. So I’m trying to break bad habits. Spritzed a lot into the ether today, but on myself I tried Gianfranco Ferre Femme. Not sure that chypres are for me. Do they tend to perform better in cool weather?

Hey Sue,
I love a chypre in any weather but particularly love their crisp dry sharpnesss and cozy dry downs in summer.

I think I prefer them in cooler weather..late fall or early spring. But I also find that if one is sniffing vintage the top notes may be gone so they don’t quite smell the same as they did when they first were released. I think this might be one of the reasons some folks assume they don’t like chypres.

I opened a box last night so sprayed a bunch of them such as vintage Van Cleef Arpels Pour Homme, L’Occitane Eau de Baux, Lauder Intuition for Men, and Givenchy Irresistible Fresh Attitude for Men.
Givenchy is going away though it may appeal to those who like mint. Intended to sell lauder intuition, too but decided to keep it for the time being since it has some similarities to chanel allure homme. Double-minded about Eau de Baux because I think I have two bottles but not sure at the moment whether there is a second bottle somewhere else and do not want to regret if I later find out I sold the only one I had. Van Cleef, not surprisingly, ended up overwhelming all others I sprayed.

To me, Lonestar has a bit of a bush-bashing, petrol-engine, outback-barbecuing vibe to it. Code added some bergamot, florals and tobacco, and also extended the time that the leather notes lasted until the late evening. Despite Val’s horror, the overspraying allows you to kind of start again, getting some top notes happening for the evening. Both Code and Lonestar are well-executed fragrances, and they are close enough on the fragrance wheel to go with one another, IMHO.

I just got an oil sample of the Vanille Farfelue. It’s interesting – he’s not kidding with his description of this line – the opening was aldehydes and unexpected , then the vanilla came on .
