SOTD 15.4 – 21.4.2019

Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 15.4 – 21.4.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. I blind bought Flower by Kenzo Summer Fragrance 2006 because I love Kenzo and Flower Tag. This smells like bug spray. I am wearing bug spray to work during an April snowstorm. Go figure. Ick.

  2. Chris Rusak QUA. Chris Rusak is active on Instagram and was profiled on Cafleurebon. He seems like a really interesting guy so I decided to try his discovery set (after he put it on sale… the original price of $51 was a little high for my sampling budget). This one has a L’Heure Bleue vibe, I need to spray it a little heavier; after 4 hours it’s gone skin scent on me (my skin is still eating up perfume). I will probably switch to Io later – it’s an evergreens and incense perfume that sounds about right for today – it Snowed this morning!

  3. Mute et Musc today for a day of management/staff meeting on governance and strategic planning. That’s one day out of my life that I’m never getting back🙄

  4. I wore Joop Nuit d’Ete parfum. could not really smell on me even though i went for 2-3 dabs on the neck. Also it is difficult to research it since parfum bottles on the net show liquid color in green, purple, and brown. I wonder if my bottle has real parfum or someone filled it with edp since edp has also thick liquid. But I just don’t have much info to determine the truth.

    • Have you tried the Tocca hair fragrances Matty?
I just received L’Instant de Guerlain which I purchased after being curious and then reading your approval. The notes are up my alley so I felt sure of my blind buy. I have been loving L’Instant Magic and of course, Guerlain.
I’ll wear L’Instant today to enjoy all the wonderful powdery floral notes and vanilla dry down.

      • No I haven’t tried the hair fragrances. i just spray a bit of perfume in the air over my head and let it settle, then brush my hair.
I’m so pleased you liked the Guerlain, it’s a bit of a worry recomending something.
I’m wearing Shalimar Siouffle today, going out with my daughter and 4 of my grandauighters.

        • I enjoy fragrancing my hair as well with perfume. I thought the Tocca hair mists fun and they actually hold scent well.
I had noticed that you wear fragrances that I also enjoy and when you mentioned Guerlain L’Instant and I read about the notes, I knew it was a safe blind buy. I am enjoying it very much and am happy to have it added to my Guerlain collection.
Enjoy your day with your daughter and grand daughters. My great niece is having her 6th birthday tomorrow, and I’m taking her for a pedicure this afternoon and then ice cream. I bought her the first bottle of girly perfume for her birthday!

          • I’m back home now. The 6 of us have had Champagne Afternoon Tea…..Delish. My Grandaughters are all grown up, the youngest is 22. She’s the one who paid for us all to have this treat. It was part of my birthday pressie from her.

            • What a beautiful day with your girls, and a wonderful birthday treat from your granddaughter. Isn’t girl-time the best? I took my 6 year old (as of tomorrow) great niece for her first pedicure, and then we went to Bath and Body Works. She picked out a nightlight with fragrance for her bedroom, and various scented hand gels and lotions. She was over the moon excited. It was so fun to share in her joy.
I wore Guerlain L’Instant today. I am so enjoying the soft powdery floral Guerlainade scent! Very frou-frou-frou, as you said.

  7. Goldfield & Banks Wood Infusion for me. Didn’t really get this one first wear but now it’s growing on me. Looking forward to trying it again when it’s colder.

  8. Splendiris by Dusita. I love the scent but I can’t get used to the name. Reminds me of all sorts of ugly names made up during the Soviet era 😦

  9. I have sent home my Korres bottle and now instead have Orange Sanguine in my room, plus also Week-End by de Nicolaï. I wore Orange Sanguine Monday and Week-End on Tuesday. Both are nice scents, and someone gave a positive comment about Week-End. Perhaps I will finish this 30 ml bottle later this year?

Eating too much Easter marzipan, so many seasonal treats available! it would have helped immensely if food was a bit better in this institution, I wouldn’t have felt quite as peckish probably.Feeling down, but luckily I have never suffered clinical depression and am confident I’ll get through the coming weeks too. Binge watching the crime series (always something new for Easter here, it is a tradition) and reading several books.

    • Week-End is one of my favourite spring perfumes. I adore it. My 30 ml bottle is almost empty and I’ll repurchase it for sure. Just bathe in it. It will make you feel better 🙂
How much longer do you have to stay in the hospital?

      Liked by 1 person

      • It’s not a hospital I’m in. This is a care institution and sadly more like a nursing home than the physical rehabilitation institution I’m in need of. Counting down to the end of the month when I can start walking on my right foot again, knowing very well that it will be only a few steps to start with. I’m so hoping to go home in early May!

        • Keeping you in my thoughts Ingeborg. I hope you’ll be home soon after one step at a time. I understand the patience required from you to be in the facility you are in for so long, and not getting exactly the rehabilitation services you require.

          • Thank you Kathleen. I know these are minor problems in the big picture, but right now it stresses me out having to put up with it all (bad food, stressed out staff and lack of adjusted physical activity).

            • It’s terribly frustrating to lose one’s independence from an injury or illness. I would be stressed out as well. I have been in the healthcare field for 30 years now, and understand very well how inadequate it can be meeting people’s needs.
Thank goodness for the pleasure of fragrance to give you some comfort!

  10. It’s sunny and warm and I’m going out for lunch with a friend. I’m wearing my dearest perfume in the world – Clinique Wrappings, an older version. Life is good 🙂

    Liked by 1 person

    • life IS good if you are wearing Wrappings…I always associate that scent with my youth in NYC during Christmas…I believe the scent first came out around the holidays…but I could definitely see it as a spring scent because it is very green. Bet the older version smells as good as I remember.

    • I’ve heard that Zara scents are actually cheaper copies of various mainstream scents but I have no experience with it. Do you know anything about it?

      Liked by 1 person

      • I haven’t got any Zara perfumes, but I have got 3 Next perfumes. If you Google smell a likes Zara it should tell you what they are copies of. It does with Next perfumes.X

  15. Hello All!!!! Portia emailed me. Thank you all for missing me. Life continues to be distressing. My husband arrived to the Ballarat house on the 4th April, 2 months exactly after leaving. My worst fear has become a reality!!! He has got her pregnant…conceived most likely on our anniversary date !!! {How many more daggers can one heart take?} I still cry myself to sleep at least 3 nights a week. I have packed up most of my perfume collection ,and farmed it out to a couple of friends so I currently only have a little collection to choose from.
I shall try to comment more often; SOTD Good Friday afternoon; Soul by Costume National, SOTN after post work shower , a sample of Je Suis un Homme.
    Love you all, Saffy.

  16. I’m feeling strangely ok today. Wore lashings of Orange Sanguine, It’s a very cheerful fragrance. Yesterday we said goodbye to our beautiful Weimar daughter. I busied myself all day at I dunno what. We loaded her in the boot of the car in her cosy bed, and gave her a last drive through where we walk, I sat with her in the back with boot lid open so the sun was beaming on her (all quiet, no traffic) Then we got her a small whipped ice cream cone. We went in at end of vet surgery hours. He came out to the car and sedated her and she was happily asleep, curled up as usual and then she got her bye bye shot. She was so peaceful.
The lump in my throat and stomach has eased today. It’s an awful heartbreaker saying goodbye to our animal babies but needs must. Couldn’t go home though afterwards so went to friends for the night. Pair of saps😌

  17. Commando until now…wearing one of my essential oil blends because it’s been that kinda day…when can I retire???? LOL!
On the plus side I am seeing my childhood friend of 51 years tomorrow ..we have some catching up to do…trying to decide what to wear based on what I think she will like to smell on me…Eau de Lierre? Brigitte? Tracy Reese? Paramela? I made her a set of seven decants including those along with some other full bottle that I have.

    • And I met one of my besties from forever today, too. She’s back from NY for a few days. We were missing the rest of the girls because they had all sodded off to different parts of the US! So have to wait til July/Aug for the AGM. We had a loooong lunch, lots to catch up on. She’s not remotely into perfume so it wouldn’t matter if I was wearing Eau de lump of coal. 🙂

    • Retirement…hm, I’d appreciate it too 😉 still, I’ve got more or less ten more years to work.
I think you should wear Brigitte for the meeting with your friend. It is kind of your personality in a bottle 🙂

      • Yes , sadly I have a ways to go too. Having a tough time dealing with younger, cocky , bullying administrators who are old enough (early 40s) to know better. No surprise that two of them are being sued by three employees for age discrimination. i am trying to lay low and just do my thing and then go home.

I did wear Brigitte but I also wore a spray of Eau de Lierre! and I brought along seven decants because she prefers smaller sizes as she likes to carry them in her purse to freshen up throughout the day.

  18. CK Eternity Air today for an unusually warm day here and Saturday errands.
And a question please – does anyone have/tried/wear V Canto Mandragola?

  19. SOTD was Orange Sanguine, I even sprayed twice during the day. The top notes make me happy and the base notes are calming.

Have been outside for a while in the sunshine, real spring here today. The relative of another patient swept away much of the gravel left after winter, so suddenly it is easier to get around on the paths in the small garden. Going uphill in a manual wheelchair is still a real workout, but good for me, obviously.

  20. I’ve been.MIA all week because I’ve been travelling. My travel scent has been the ever-reliable and versatile Richard James Savile Row, and Ill be wearing that again today and tomorrow.

Yesterday was different though, because I ended into town to meet up with some of the Sydney-based AFNers. We had a fine old time in a rooftop bar in glorious sunshine, snffing a vast array of perfumes. The highlight for me was probably my first encounter with Cuir Beluga. What a fantastically smooth leather that is.

  21. A big virtual hug to Marcella,. Hope to see you back here soon!

Scentless today, but will put on some of the scented body oil (Tauer Amber Flush) later in the afternoon. The bottle will soon be empty, but with the warmer weather I crave different scents anyway, so will have to look for something new.

Struggling to be a good listener for the lady in the room next to mine, she is fighting anxiety and what seems to be clinical depression. Most of the nurses and other staff don’t seem to be willing to see the problem, so she and all of us around have to live with the all the trouble this causes.
