SOTD 29.4 – 5.5.2019

Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 29.4 – 5.5.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Testing three Veros ( thanks to TaraC), dabs of Reglisse on the neck ( thanks to Portia and AnnieA) and scent twins with my silent friend with a spray of Brigitte on my sweater.

  2. Alaïa, which Luca Turin called surpassingly weird and “ marvelous”. I’m not sure it’s a love for me but for the meager price I paid at TJ Maxx I will certainly continue to enjoy wearing it. Sometimes “different” is what appeals.

  3. My daughter made out an interesting plan for my visit in Budapest. First we visited the invisible exhibition. It’s actually an experience of how it feels to be blind so you fumble your way through a pitch black space and get explanations from a blind guide along the way. In the end you sit in a cafe and have your drink in the dark.I was so happy to be out in the light again although I’d recommend it to everyone.I felt so humble afterwards.
The next thing was a traditional Hungarian spa in the night with a rooftop pool overlooking the city across the Danube. Very nice and, of course, crowded. SOTD was Zoologist Hummingbird, a romantic perfume with a prominent honeysuckle note.
Oh, and a very happy birthday to the lovely, funny, energetic, amazing Mrs Marzipan – Brigitte ❤ I think today is the day.

  5. Went commando since I caught a little cold yesterday and got hypersensitive to smells and scents.

Happy birthday, Brigitte! May this year bring you tons of happy moments and precious gifts (fragrant or otherwise)

  6. I am wearing Ma Liberte by Patou. I know many think Jicky or Caron pour un Homme are the lavender benchmarks but I think Ma Liberte is the best lavender perfume I have ever smelled. If you have Moment Supreme from 60s-70s, it is very clear Ma Liberte was inspired by Moment Supreme and there would be no Ma Liberte if Moment Supreme did not exist. To me, Ma Liberte is Moment Supreme PERFECTED!

  7. I started out this week with a blast of Costume National Scent Intense, another ambery autumnal concoction.

Today I spotted a sample set from Maison Trudon that I haven’t been giving enough attention to. There’s six in the set, so I decided to make this la semaine de Maison Trudon. First up was Mortel. This has a really powerful peppery opening, maybe a bit too much for me. It does develop nicely though, into a nice balsamic, resiny warmer.

      • The onset of both read cumin-y to my nose…. don’t know if that’s the ambrette but real ambrette e.o. smells nutty to my nose. The EDT becomes dry and reminds me a bit of no 19. The EDP registers as more sweet. Neither last on my scent devouring skin so I have been reapplying. They will be thunked today. 😁

  8. Orange Blossom Petal. Gosh, even the name of this portrays an innocence. And what I have tested so far from this line is ever so pretty and uncomplicated, and yes, they have an honest innocence about them.

  9. Wearing Chris Rusak Bluer Skies (Whenever You’re Around) today. I think it’s my favorite from the sample set I got – at least the most likely to wear on a regular basis. I like his Io (incense) but I usually only pull those scents out on really challenging days. High percentage of naturals, so the lasting power on my still dry-as-a-bone skin isn’t great at the moment, hoping that once it gets warm for good it will improve.

  10. Yesterday I wore Soul by Costume National, then at night for bed I applied Jessica Simpson Fancy over the top of the dry down of Soul. I went to la la land, and about 4am woke up for a piddle. Oh and it seemed the glorious spiciness of the Soul had come to the fore again, lifted by the musks of the Fancy…weird. Now a few hours later, after a shower I am wearing Avon Goddess

  11. So, today’s Trudon is Revelation. For me, this is dominated by incense from the get-go, and I can’t really say that I like it.

  12. I felt I needed some comfort this morning so I lashed on some Wowilla oil and topped it with Bois des Iles. Have a dose of the grumps today😒 Life events pi$$ing me off.

  13. Weird… I left a comment and WordPress ate it up…
Current formulation Vol de Nuit EDT because it will wear off and folks in my training that I am partaking in tonight won’t smell it. Next two evenings at work are scent free.
And I tested Heretic perfumes last night. The Jasmine was my favorite but not going on a full bottle list.

  14. I did some samples for someone (who might be on here, having a birthday😉 . Sorry B, I wouldn’t risk post to US but if I could I definitely would!) One of the sprayers blasted out all over my hands so I’m a scentbomb now. Smellyfingers.com😃 and t-shirt since I had to rub it somewhere.

      • Are you girls talking about me???? 🙂 🙂
I’ve spent the last two days in Budapest on a Michelangelo exhibiton (only sketches and drawings – I was slightly disappointed) and on a photo exhibition of a friend of mine from Croatia, eating in great restaurants (traditional Hungarian, Vietnamese, fancy steak restaurants…). On my birthday we went on a short trip to a small town close to Budapest, had a stroll through the picturesque town, in the afternoon we went on a boat tour on the Danube with wine tasting (yes, my daughter knows me 😉 ) and to a fancy restaurant for dinner. Almost every evening we spent in clubs with my daughter’s friends.
Now that I’m home, I need to relax a bit…until the weekend when there will again be some action because I will be celebrating here and there with my friends 🙂

  15. Goutal Eau de Charlotte today, lots of LOTV. Supposed to have some cacao but I’m not getting it today, quite green and a little soapy.

  16. Orange Sanguine again. Hoping so much to go home next week, but having trouble walking with that giant Aircast on.

Also waiting impatiently to see if some scent muling works out.

    • Oooh, what’s the mule going to deliver??? Hope you get your marching orders next week and that you’re prepared for it. You’ve been confined for quite a while now. Continued healing wishes to you. But you are smelling delicious in OS. 🍊 🧡

      • The mule has been shopping Dior Fève Délicieuse in a 125 ml bottle for me. Apparently the 40 ml bottle was not available in Vienna! And can you believe it, after having to wait for 20 minutes to be allowed to enter, the SA gave no samples with the purchase. I don’t know if it is again a case of not being dressed to fit in, or something else. My stepmother is originally from Austria, so it would not be easy for them to tell she was only on a short visit now.

As for the muling in the other direction, I have not yet heard anything about a visit to the local post office, so we will see what happens.

        • Fève Délicieuse is gorgeous. You can spray it lavishly now that you have a giant bottle. Your stepmum is much more patient than I would be. How dare they treat people like second class citizens! I’d stomp off in a huff, I just know it. The way I see it, money is money and a sale is a sale, and every paying customer deserves respect. Ok, rant over. Enjoy your treasure.

    • Can you delegate some of the things on your list? Group and do together things that can be done together. Take a moment to go through the list and prioritize. Maybe some of it can be let go. Breathe (in fragrant aromas). And pace yourself. You don’t want to be burned out or sick on your honeymoon. Most of all, I wish you and Jin a wonderful honeymoon.

      • Hey Tatiana,
I put my head down today and got through about 70% of the list. Yes, I grouped stuff together, did one thing at a time and suddenly a whole bunch was done.
We even had time to watch a movie on Netflix About Time with Bill Nighy and Rachel McAdams. So good.
Off to work tonight and then two jam packed days of stuff. The up, up and away. YAY!

  17. Decided to go through some of the multitude of samples this week. Wore Hermes Gallop yesterday. Didn’t really love it and put the sample in the donate pile. Today I wore a sample of Le Labe Baie Rose that my daughter gave me. Smelled lovely (like it is on my daughter) for about 5 to 10 minutes then turned sour. Scrubbed arms three times and I still can’t stand it. Not sure what’s in there, but this is not the first rose scent to go sour on my skin.

  18. I had to take affirmative action: Had a root in the bottom of my handbag and found Elie Saab in White. Yass, I can smell this for sure, cheerful orange blossom and other stuff. I just can’t be doing with smelling of nothing. (First world problems again.)

  19. I have been reading APJ for several months already and I finally decided to show up, thanks to my wonderful friend Brigitte (where are you? I guess you are having a busy day today!)
I love this site, especially the Scent Diary, which I never miss!
My scent of the day is ELDO Jasmin et Cigarette. It is amazing how sometimes I can smell only jasmine and other days, like today I smell just cigarette ashes. I hope nobody around me thinks I am a heavy smoker! LOL! No matter what, I am enjoying it.

  20. The last two days I’ve been wearing my birthday present for myself – Sublime Balkiss from The Different Company. It reminds me of the green chypres from the seventies/eighties and the intense blackcurrant note gives it modern twist. Celine Ellena at her best!

  21. Thursday was pretty mad, training it down to Melbourne, shopping for new glasses and a wedding shirt, and going to a lecture in the evening. I was wearing Trudon II, which really did not do much for me at all; quite an ordinary green scent. Nowhere near as good a fig scent as Philosykos, Figeur or Hyde Park. Today I’ve got Olim on. This is much more like it, a wonderful warm balsamic scent that lasts at least 12 hours. By far my favourite so far.

I hit a personal milestone this week. When we posted our NYE resolutions, mine was to get my long-term glucose levels down to six. This week, for the first time this year, I got my 3-month average below 8, back into the healthy range. I got this done just through diet and exercise, no drugs, and I’ve managed to lose a couple of kays on the way as well.

    • Since my early morning application of Tardes I have applied about 10 other fragrances from samples I inherited from Tara C 😃. No training tonight so I can go crazy 😁

  22. Got my extra decant of Sex and the Sea yesterday and the seller included tiny samples of Angel’s Dust, Under My Skin and The Dark Side. Trying Angel’s Dust today. Oh myyyy, this stuff is amazing, a rich powdery floral, very old school. Another lemming is born 😬 How the hell could I win the lotto sometime soon?
