Hi APJ,
A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.
You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.
SOTD 29.4 – 5.5.2019
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Go To It Crew.

ooh sounds lovely! I have been using a facial oil that is rather expensive, but it has such an amazing smell that i cannot wait to slap it on after i have cleansed my face in the evening: Mauli Supreme Skin Face serum (yah, its an oil…). It apparently blends “rose otto, lime and blood orange, while jasmine sambac and Himalayan cedar wood”… swoon! (and oh yeah, i think it is pretty good for my skin, too *lol*!) cheerswendy ps i earn no commission on the stuff, btw… just think it smells great!

My daughter made out an interesting plan for my visit in Budapest. First we visited the invisible exhibition. It’s actually an experience of how it feels to be blind so you fumble your way through a pitch black space and get explanations from a blind guide along the way. In the end you sit in a cafe and have your drink in the dark.I was so happy to be out in the light again although I’d recommend it to everyone.I felt so humble afterwards.
The next thing was a traditional Hungarian spa in the night with a rooftop pool overlooking the city across the Danube. Very nice and, of course, crowded. SOTD was Zoologist Hummingbird, a romantic perfume with a prominent honeysuckle note.
Oh, and a very happy birthday to the lovely, funny, energetic, amazing Mrs Marzipan – Brigitte ❤ I think today is the day.

I am wearing Ma Liberte by Patou. I know many think Jicky or Caron pour un Homme are the lavender benchmarks but I think Ma Liberte is the best lavender perfume I have ever smelled. If you have Moment Supreme from 60s-70s, it is very clear Ma Liberte was inspired by Moment Supreme and there would be no Ma Liberte if Moment Supreme did not exist. I started out this week with a blast of Costume National Scent Intense, another ambery autumnal concoction.
Today I spotted a sample set from Maison Trudon that I haven’t been giving enough attention to. There’s six in the set, so I decided to make this la semaine de Maison Trudon. First up was Mortel. This has a really powerful peppery opening, maybe a bit too much for me. It does develop nicely though, into a nice balsamic, resiny warmer.

I’ve ordered a complete sample set a year ago and I ended up with travel sizes of Civet, Camel and Panda. Some of them have a milky quality and a very similar vibe to me: Dragonfly and Elephant, even Macaque. Nightingale and Civet feel rather vintage. Panda and Macaque feel rather modern. Bat and Rhinoceros are conceptual perfumes and I find them unwearable, Moth has oud which I dislike. Hummingbird is prett and soapy.

The onset of both read cumin-y to my nose…. don’t know if that’s the ambrette but real ambrette e.o. smells nutty to my nose. The EDT becomes dry and reminds me a bit of no 19. Wearing Chris Rusak Bluer Skies (Whenever You’re Around) today. I think it’s my favorite from the sample set I got – at least the most likely to wear on a regular basis. I like his Io (incense) but I usually only pull those scents out on really challenging days. High percentage of naturals, so the lasting power on my still dry-as-a-bone skin isn’t great at the moment, hoping that once it gets warm for good it will improve.

Yesterday I wore Soul by Costume National, then at night for bed I applied Jessica Simpson Fancy over the top of the dry down of Soul. I went to la la land, and about 4am woke up for a piddle. Oh and it seemed the glorious spiciness of the Soul had come to the fore again, lifted by the musks of the Fancy…weird. Now a few hours later, after a shower I am wearing Avon Goddess

I’ve spent the last two days in Budapest on a Michelangelo exhibiton (only sketches and drawings – I was slightly disappointed) and on a photo exhibition of a friend of mine from Croatia, eating in great restaurants (traditional Hungarian, Vietnamese, fancy steak restaurants…). On my birthday we went on a short trip to a small town close to Budapest, had a stroll through the picturesque town, in the afternoon we went on a boat tour on the Danube with wine tasting (yes, my daughter knows me 😉 ) and to a fancy restaurant for dinner. Almost every evening we spent in clubs with my daughter’s friends.
Now that I’m home, I need to relax a bit…until the weekend when there will again be some action because I will be celebrating here and there with my friends 🙂

The mule has been shopping Dior Fève Délicieuse in a 125 ml bottle for me. Apparently the 40 ml bottle was not available in Vienna! And can you believe it, after having to wait for 20 minutes to be allowed to enter, the SA gave no samples with the purchase. I don’t know if it is again a case of not being dressed to fit in, or something else. My stepmother is originally from Austria, so it would not be easy for them to tell she was only on a short visit now.
As for the muling in the other direction, I have not yet heard anything about a visit to the local post office, so we will see what happens.

Today I wore a sample of Le Labe Baie Rose that my daughter gave me. Smelled lovely (like it is on my daughter) for about 5 to 10 minutes then turned sour. Scrubbed arms three times and I still can’t stand it. Not sure what’s in there, but this is not the first rose scent to go sour on my skin.

Thursday was pretty mad, training it down to Melbourne, shopping for new glasses and a wedding shirt, and going to a lecture in the evening. I was wearing Trudon II, which really did not do much for me at all; quite an ordinary green scent. Nowhere near as good a fig scent as Philosykos, Figeur or Hyde Park. Today I’ve got Olim on. This is much more like it, a wonderful warm balsamic scent that lasts at least 12 hours. By far my favourite so far.
I hit a personal milestone this week. When we posted our NYE resolutions, mine was to get my long-term glucose levels down to six. This week, for the first time this year, I got my 3-month average below 8, back into the healthy range. I got this done just through diet and exercise, no drugs, and I’ve managed to lose a couple of kays on the way as well.
