Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 6.5 – 12.5.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Nicolai Neroli Intense. I wore Seville a l’Aube on Saturday night for a concert, but I find this one more suitable for my work week, not quite as heady.

  2. Made five oil blends this weekend. My co worker takes them as gifts to her family in Ireland every summer. It’s the only perfume her sisters and mom will wear.
Testing Neroli & Sandalwood today from the five.

      • Nope I always come up with new ones or send whatever is marinating in the basement 😃 I am not a perfumer and I don’t sell it so I am very bad about keeping recipes!!!!!

  3. Ooo and I retested 🐪 last night. Still not for me. What’s left of the sample will be thunked via sending to a dear friend who’s really interested in trying the Zoologist perfumes.

  4. Hiram Green Dilettante again. Perhaps I was wrong about it’s not being the one – as the day goes by (last time too) I like it more and more.

  5. first version of calvin klein obsession for men. Its amazing. I cannot seem to find any info whether the creator of ck obsession for men made any other perfume.

    • Oh gosh I loved that one back in the day!!!!! It would sell for 200 dollars a bottle now if it was produced by a niche company and yet was highly affordable and readily available way back when. You smell amazing!!!!!

      • It is really amazing. It shows designer brands used to spend a lot of time brainstorming briefs and perfecting final formulations and then release them with unforgettable marketing campaigns. A total contrast to how things are now. I think the time period involving both brief and perfume development is mere months now or sometimes even weeks.

  6. Testing Dragonfly and Hummingbird….ate they pretty? Yes. Do I need them? No. Thunk because there’s enough for one more wear so I shall send them to my dear friend.

  7. Back home! Finding my perfumes again, cold and rainy day so I sprayed a lot of Ostara. It really is ideal in our Nordic spring weather.

  8. I get the feeling the universe is sending me the message that ‘life is short’ so today I’m wearing in multiple sprays of my TF Sahraa Noir sample.

  9. Last Saturday and Sunday I wore Midnight in Paris to work and had some interesting reactions. It is very rare for me to wear a scent 2 days in a row. On Saturday I was helping a lady named Beverly by cutting up her food. She has dementia and is often confused and unable to express her needs but on occasion she can be very articulate and insightful. On Saturday she was the latter and very clearly said to me” You smell really nice and should be going out dancing instead of being here!!” On Sunday I chose to wear MIP again to see if Beverly noticed the smell again. She did!!!! And this time she told another woman named Joan that I smelt lovely. So I asked Joan if she’d like to smell my wrist. Joan agreed to this.I offered my arm and Joan inhaled . She smiled and said “ you smell delightful “ I got a lift home from my friend and the first comment she made was ‘ That perfume smells gorgeous “ Think we have a winner here folks!!!!

    • Ooo! I wore it back in the days it wasn’t vintage 😂. My childhood friend’s mother was gifted one of those disks and she gave it to me because she knew I loved perfume.. in pristine condition with tip notes intact it was sublime. I was the best smelling 12 year old.

  10. This week I’m sampling a few from the Lorenzo Villoresi range. Today was Theseus. It has a big aromatic green opening and dries down to mostly vetiver.

  11. Today is First Cut (calm down, Brigitte 😃). Yesterday I was in several sprays of Casablanca as I now have my little bottle so don’t have to ration it. My friend took a good sniff and the first thing she got was a hippy vibe.

  12. Thank you Saffyishere! Habanita is also one of my cold weather favorites. Even though it is not so cold here today, I was craving for it badly. One dab of the perfume in my shirt and I am in heaven now!

  13. In bed after a very very difficult emotional day. It is easy to get married but so hard to become unmarried!!! I am finding it rather overwhelming . Comfort is what I am seeking tonight as I cry myself to sleep and listen to the rain outside my window. SOTrying to Sleep is SJP Covet

  14. Today I’ve emptied my sample of Osmanthe Yunnan and again I’ve come to the same conclusion: a beautiful scent with poor longevity. Such a shame!

    • I haven’t wanted to give priority to buying a bottle for just that reason, anything barely there after 2-3 hours has difficulty getting on my full bottle want list.

    • I had the same problem with the Hermessence line but I find if I spray my clothes it lasts longer. Paprika Brasil stayed on my shirt for 2 days…. That’s my favorite one

      • You’re right, spraying on clothes may help. I didn’t have enough left in the vial this time. Next time I’m on an airport I will give it a try.

  15. Paprika Brasil on skin. Today’s the day I am supposed to be scentless for my evening training at work so I am not spraying my clothes.
When it wears off I will add some 🌹 and vanilla oil for testing blend no 3.

Included was a little bottle with the words BLACK TAR Sadly it began strong but faded quickly. I had dinner out tonight. I am now tucked up in bed hot pack on my backpack I have now applied Covet

  17. Chocolate Greedy today. It was either wear it or stuff my face with chocolate. The weather has turned sooo cold again and I’m back in my winter jumper. Wth is going on?

  18. Have been wearing a cologne from Couvent des Minimes today. I blind bought a bottle last year, and while I like it, it’s not something I strictly needed!

Wore an amber perfume (not sure which, bad labelling) from Orlov yesterday evening. Really nice, but only have a tiny sample.

Where is Marcella??!! I miss her comments on here!

  19. ‘Nother Lorenzo Villoresi today, this time Alamut. Seems pretty nice but I was too busy to really appreciate it, so I’ll give it another run tomorrow.

  20. OJ Taif. A few more sprays and this one will be done, finally. It’s been around for years!
PS WordPress, you are driving me 😡

      • It’s one of the 10 ml travel sprays, I had several of them at one stage but I’ve whittled it down to about three by now. The OJ line works well for me, don’t think I’ve ever hit a dud.

    • Wow Winter has really arrived in my quarters It has rained for the last 48 hours and at some times the wind has been fierce Luckily I had no need to go out so it was very casual but warm dressing Hubby and I filled a skip bin of ‘ stuff’ It is amazing how much utter crap is accumulated over 28 years!!! Anyway smelly wise I wore Covet each day and night. For work later today I will wear Soul

  21. I was a bit lazy the last days. It’s rainy and grey and I don’t feel like doing anything but the necessary stuff. I even did not cook since Monday but ordered my meals from an Indian restaurant every day.
Today I was so happy because I received a birthday card and perfume package from the one and only Berni aka CASSIE 🙂 ❤ Yay!!!
I got another sample of vintage Magie Noire and the whole package smelled of it (don't worry, nothing has spilled) I am sooo looking forward to wearing it to a special occasion!
Hmmmm…and then there's this Mystery Fragrance…sweet, flowery, vanilla, pear (?), caramel … knowing that Cassie knows I'm a fan of vintage perfume, I assume it's something vintage. The only perfume it reminds me of is LouLou but it's been so long since I have smelled the original that I may be wrong, in which case I have no idea what it could be 😀
Thanks so much for the beautiful surprise, my dear 🙂

    • Are you ready for this? Drumrolllll . . . It’s Madonna’s Truth or Dare Naked. I purposely didn’t label it as I wanted you to smell without any preconceived ideas. Glad it reached you. I have to make the package as flat as possible so that it doesn’t appear to contain anything. HaHa, I just love getting one over on the postage police. (I’m so passive aggressive.) It’s a bit like going through the security checks at airports, when they bark at you about all liquids being in the little plastic baggie, I’ve always got a couple of small perfume decants and a lipstick or lipgloss in my handbag. I need to grow up already.

  22. vintage Opium parfum today. accidentally spilled some from a bottle that arrived today and soaked it in the t-shirt I was wearing. planned to change the t-shirt today but keeping on for now 🙂 I am glad the highest bidder on ebay did not pay and the seller sent me second chance offer. Got a great deal. Of course, it is a backup since I keep hoarding vintage opium in parfum and especially original edt formula since that is more abundant and easier to get at good prices

  24. A drizzle outside all day Friday and hardly a glimpse of the sun. We have very low temperatures now, so Thursday I wore Seville à l’aube. Friday afternoon I put on lots of Chamade edp, for me something I love best in spring and early summer.

Saturday I will give ELdO True Lust a proper test, the sample from Portia arrived yesterday and I have so far only sprayed a tiny amount on paper, it then seemed very innocent and vaguely familiar. I sort of hope there is a twist to it when put on skin.

  25. Niki de Saint Phalle. Spruced up my bottle by adding bergamot essential oil to bring back the top notes. Literally poured some in the splash bottle.

  26. I have been wearing ELdO True Lust today from the sample Portia generously sent me. It is very nice and pretty, yet it is not something I will need a full bottle of. Perhaps it is too sweet and floral for me. Thankfully no “chemical spill” to start with (see what Portia wrote about this one). I do seem to get more violet than spicy rose, in fact this perfume is rather sweet for the first hour or so (the rum?). I haven’t detected any coconut really (a note I usually don’t like in perfume anyway), but there’s something a little tropical to it (very nice!). Sadly this creation fades to nothing in less than five hours on my skin. The base notes are hardly there on my skin! This also means I can detect very little sandalwood and hardly any animalic notes at all. The name doesn’t really fit the perfume IMHO, the perfume seems prettier and less sensual than the name would suggest,

I would love to hear what those of you who own this perfume make of it, it seems True Lust could be used on many occations. Really happy to have been given a chance to try it, and I will finish the sample once the weather gets warmer again.

  27. I feel very emotional today It is Mother’s Day and I really want a hug from my Mum. And being at work surrounded by Mums and Grandmas is especially difficult . Today’s perfume is a comforting hug to myself Goddess by Avon.

  28. This is not Mother’s Day where I live. Wore LeLabo Iris 39, just because it was there and is so uncomlicated to wear. I don’t know how I will cope with a perfume ban during two weeks of intense rehabilitation in June, being in a coastal town will help, I suppose.
