Saturday Question: What If You Could Only Own 3 Perfume Houses?

Hello Fellow Fumies,

At APJ we have a Saturday Question. Everyone gets to chime in with an answer, chat with other responders and it’s a fun event each week. Taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

The idea is you’ll see it on the weekend or chime in through the week. Hopefully you will come back regularly and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them. The aim is to generate real conversation and connection even though we are scattered around the globe.

Saturday Question: What If You Could Only Own 3 Perfume Houses?

It’s a dystopian future. The fragrant police are jailing, maiming and killing people who have excessive perfume collections. It’s like Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury but instead of books being outlawed it’s personal scent. You are only allowed three houses in your collection. What do you choose?

My Answer:

DSH Perfumes

Dawn has a brilliant range. It’s depth and breadth are astounding and I think that I’d be able to have some excellent choice if it was one of my three houses. I also really love the way her perfumes smell on me. Almost every one I’ve tried has been a success. From the incense/ambers to the sharp green florals, icy to cozy and all the way out to oudh.

Guerlain

Obviously for me. i would be lying if I left them out

Parfumerie Generale

Pierre Guillaume is a totally under rated perfumer. His work is good across the board. Not afraid to do both ends of the spectrum. He hits the mark with mainstream styles and freaky fragrance. Dry as a bone to sweet and luscious. His range of creation leaves me breathless. I also like how he comes back and reinterprets his own work with the balances changed or new highlights. Clever.

My Saturday Question to you is:What If You Could Only Own 3 Perfume Houses?

  1. Hehe I thought the question was ‘how many perfume houses would you actually own’ and my first response was I would be happy with one!
    What a dag!
    Umm, Guerlain.

  2. Vero Profumo, Hiram Green, Chanel, and April Aromatics and Annick Goutal would be hiding behind these bottles to be part of the fun as well.

  3. Chanel
    Malle
L’Artisan Parfumeur. Since I can only have 3 houses, LP was chosen for strategic reasons. Dzing! Première Figuier Extrême, and Safran Troublant are great fragrances, and there are 50 + fragrances I have not tried yet.

  4. Since I only own one from each house – hmmm.
    Vero
    Puredistance
    Malle

For myself, I’d really rather have my SL than my Malle, but CF is my husband’s absolute favorite, and I cannot survive a dystopian future without the ability to catch my husband’s attention!

Chanel or Guerlain or Dior if only for Mitzah and old Miss Dior? Or Piguet so I can keep Bandit? Nah, it’s going to have to be Chanel.

  7. Great question!
    1) Amouage (no question)
    2) Serge Lutens
    3) Mona di Orio

It was easy to pick the first two but the last one is so difficult!

  8. Dior, Guerlain and Serge Lutens 👌🏻👌🏻. Anyways it’s really hard to choose only three houses 😜

But in that hypothetical future we all should visit each other often… you know, just to say Hi on our way to work or some party. I meant, say Hi to each other’s perfume collections 😉
I’m also thinking… If I were to borrow for a day or two a bottle of Mitzah from one of the Dior owners, it wouldn’t count as “owning,” right?

  10. Helmut Lang: For Cuiron alone since that is the closest to being my signature fragrance

Shiseido: Feminite du Bois, Murasaki, Inoui, Nombre Noire… these are just few of the classic gems from the house (I only like Shiseido’s original releases, not the new ones that are too commercial and aimed at younger audience)

Christian Dior: vintage eau sauvage, vintage eau sauvage extreme, original dior homme, fahrenheit, vintage dioressence, just to name few…

  13. I feel i need Guerlain AA Pamplelune and I love Chamade. So Guerlain is on the list, then Dior (wish I owned vintage Diorissimo and love the Escale lineup and the couturier/exclusive line) and lastly L’Artisan Parfumeur just because of the variety of scents they present.
