Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 6.5 – 12.5.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. I wish you all a Happy Monday. I have only worn a hand cream by MOR named Snow Gardenia. No spritzing during the day. I’ll have a shower soon before bed then I’ll put on a scent.

  2. Annick Goutal Grand Amour today. Trying to make sure I wear all of my top spring perfumes before it gets hot!

  3. Pacifica French Lilac. One more wear and it would be a full bottle thunk. Luckily, I have a back up bottle, so it will not be missed, especially after it was discontinued.

  4. PPP arrived this morning so on the right side of me is Frapin Nevermore, unisex, airy, cologne-like. On my left is Providence Perfume Moss Gown. Yowza, this has a very green sharp opening but cools its jets after about 10 minutes. It reminds be a bit of Aromatics Elixir Parfum, but not as balsamic. It’s not a sillage monster, it’s keeping fairly quiet.

  5. Since Brigitte’s persuasion skills are so amazing I had to order another birthday present for myself 😛
Today arrived my bottle of Penhaligon’s Blasted Bloom. Someone is selling a few bottles on ebay for a much better price than the usual retail price. I was a bit afraid something might be fishy there but I have an original sample and I’ve compared them on skin and on paper for a while. It is identical – phew!

      • You’re right, Brigitte. I literally don’t have much room in my perfume drawers, plus the ones I’ve weeded out so far deserve more love (a few Patous, for example).

        • What you really need is family and friends who are equally as passionate about perfume. Then everyone can “borrow” from each other or make decants for each other and ALL the neglected perfumes get the love that they deserve (this is what happens chez Marzipan!)

          • No, thank you 🙂 What’s mine is mine only, at this point in my life I don’t want to share my stuff with anyone. I give some of my bottles to my mum or friends who dig perfumes but that’s it. Please don’t forget that I grew up in a Communist regime (or rather what was left of it by the time I was born), – and I have an older brother, so this “everyone should share everything” thing got pretty stale a long time ago 🙂 .

  10. Atelier Vanille Insensee. I bought a bottle few years ago and it has turned completely brown like those vintage rochas tocade. Has it happened to anyone else. To my surprise, I have not seen any picture on internet or of anyone mentioning their atelier vanille turning brown as well. I know it happens to perfumes with lot of vanilla but still I am surprised because I did not think it would have so much vanilla. Also those who have smelled it, is it primarily a vanilla fragrance or you get other notes? I really struggled to get anything else besides vanilla.

    Like

    • My daughter has a travel spray around four or five years old and it isn’t brown. To my nose it’s vanilla and something else but not sure what that something else is 🤣🤣 I like it for this reason… It has a kind of savory aspect to me, if that makes sense???

      Like

    • I had a sample a while ago, wasn’t too dark but it was probably a couple y.o. I’m not surprised that the juice in your bottle has changed its colourm you said it yourself, vanilla does it to fragrances.
V.I. is a rare vanilla scent that I’d actually wear: I like its spicy side and oakmoss. I hear it got discontinued which is disappointing 😦

Inspired by pl67 choice yesterday and Undina’s Lilac post I might go with Brigitte today…I need some lilac goodness to remind me that it is technically spring….even though it’s only 40 degrees outside….at least we did not get snow last night…just lots of rain.

I know I have to stop this behaviour . The lavender essential oil didn’t help as much as I had hoped. I have a day off so I am going out later today to vote. Australia has an election on Saturday. I can’t decide which scent to wear right now so I’ll remain scentless.

  15. doing an experiment….base of Black Flower mexican vanilla on one wrist and Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit on the other…both wrists topped off with Eau de Lierre…..loving both combos….the vanilla/gourmand aspects of the base perfumes turn Eau de Lierre into a milky fig which is something I have been craving since discovery Kyse Perfumes Ficco a Panna (thank you Tara C!) which starts off smelling like Pacifica’s Mediterranean Fig and dries down to what smells like Jo Malone’s Sweet Milk. Since I really don’t “want” to buy the Kyse I am trying to recreate it with what I have already at home 🙂

  16. I found a sample of Grandiflora Madagascan Jasmine, it’s so beautiful! One of the perfumes I would have bought pronto if a travel spray had been an option.

SOTE is Dior Fève Délucieuse. I got my new bottle today and may have oversprayed just a little! Today it seems less sweet than I remember it, definitely a dark chocolate vibe, just a little bitter for the first hour. Then calms down to something smooth and warm. Lovely!

    Like

    • How does Feve Delucieuce compare to Amber Nuit Ingeborg? I only have Dioramour from the collection and am contemplating another bottle for my bday gift to myself.

      Like

      • Fève Délicieuse lasts for longer on skin than Dior Ambre Nuit, I think. After applying 5 sprays in the evening, it was easy to detect traces of it next morning, so around 8 hours at least.

The ingredients don’t seem as volatile as certain citrus or floral perfumes, but perhaps there’s more of a sillage than I perceive myself. You see, the nurse who visited yesterday wondered if I had been burning a scented candle and I think it must have been traces of the perfume! After all the L’Occitan shower oil has a rather subtle perfume and I hadn’t put on any scented products otherwise.
Allergy season has started, so I may not get all nuances in a scent now.
Fève Délicieuse seemed smother when applied with a lighter hand, wore some yesterday..Sorry, I cannot give a better description!

        Like

        • Your description is helpful and I appreciate you responding to my inquiry. I always appreciate honest feedback from fellow perfumistas. I thought it was Ambre Nuit I wanted most I’m such a fan of that note, but I read about the performance and projection issues. Feve Delicieuse sounds wonderful and different from what I own, perhaps more gourmand and longer lasting? I Wonder if it’s more unisex/masculine?

          Like

          • It’s not overly sweet, but to my nose more a feminine or unisex gourmand than masculine. If you like Chanel Coromandel and Fendi Theorema, Fève Délicieuse may well be something you would love. But as always, do try a sample first.

            Like

            • Coromandel is one of my all time favorite fragrances, and I had a bottle of Theorema years ago and currently a couple mini bottles. I’m thinking I will enjoy Feve!
I don’t have Dior boutique to sniff this line, but I’ll look at STC or TPC for samples.
Thanks again for the information and feedback!

Hi gang! I’m back from the dead!! My personal sun is shining again after a b*tch of a time. No keeping this old war horse down.
Wore MEM today because I’m easily influenced. In this case by Crikey. And she was spot on about trying it again in spring. It was all sorts of gorgeousness. I left a vapour trail a mile long and meters wide as I sauntered down the sidewalks on one of my ‘keep walking or my legs will explode’ walks.
Missed you all and happy to be snugged back into the group!

  23. And another enabler pin for Mrs M – my girlfriend got back from the States and brought the Phlur samples that I’ve ordered: Hanami, Sandara and Greylocke. I could choose only three so that’s it. Tomorrow I’ll check them out and let you know what I think about them. My biggest concern is – what if I fall for one (or two) of them? How will I be able to order it? Guess what? Phlur ships only to the States.

    • That Mrs. M!! She’s incorrigible! Sent me a sample of Hepcat (also Phlur) which I loved. I only tried it in winter and saved the rest for warmer weather. It will be on my hitlist soon. You gotta find a mule Neva!

  25. I didn’t have much time today so I’ve just sprayed the Phlur samples on different parts of my limbs to test them quickly. I couldn’t give them a proper wear but I’ll do it when I’m back.
All the three samples are balsamic which I like and I chose them for this reason (probably). I can’t talk about the longevity right now but they are all skin scents, I think.
Greylocke is very nice, starts off green reminding me of Dryad but that fades away soon and I was left with a resinous, slightly salty vetiver smell. Good enough!
Sandara is the winner for me. It’s a pretty smell reminding me of the old Shiseido Zen in the translucent bottle. It is slightly green and herbal, woody violets.
Hanami’s opening was wonderful – sweet fresh white flowers, a touch of cherry and then it becomes a creamy sandalwood fragrance. I smell a tobacco note too.
Today I’m leaving for the coastside and I’ll spend the next week sailing with six more people of which I know only three. I guess it’s going to be interesting. Wish me luck with the weather. Although I’m fully equipped, we really don’t need more rain. The sea is not warm enough for a swim but the mere thought of spending a week looking at the sea night and day makes me want to scream of joy!

  29. Friday wasn’t such a great day for me, even if it was Constitution Day and glorious weather outside. I didn’t get the promised help to get into my shower (there’s a high step up) and so it took me literally 2 hours to get my hair and the rest of me really clean, by which time I couldn’t be bothered to put on a dress, but rather pulled on a skirt and nice top and topped it off by Cherry Blossom (from a large Guerlain sample). Apart from the ice cream, most of the festive food (asparagus and best quality smoked salmon among other things) was saved for today.

After the much longed for shower today I had fresh bread rolls, smoked salmon and cider for lunch and SOTD has been Grandiflora Madagascan Jasmine again, applied twice during the day to keep me really fragrant. Scent really is best on clean skin!

Rather proud of myself for not buying any 8 ml decants at Surrender to Chance, so many interesting options! But I’ve just paid my big Dior bottle (Fève Délicieuse), so had to be sensible again with spending.

And the musk as well, which is interesting since I usually don’t like too much musk. But the way it’s used here is beautiful. I don’t know if we’ll ever see the VdE again but that’s one I could make a signature scent. Like my beloved Shalimar it’s right anytime and all the time.
