Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 20.5 – 26.5.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

    • Dryad is fantastic. Reminds me of the Jontue I wore in the 70s.
So nice to finally have normal weather 😁

  2. Mid afternoon pick me up courtesy of pl67 and TaraC- vintage 24 Faubourg overlayed with Neroli… Don’t know the brand.

    • And thunk on the Neroli cause I forgot the deodorant this morning and my room is not air conditioned so I used the last of it under my arms.

  3. Grandiflora Madagascar Jasmine again, the last few drops from that sample vital.

Yesterday SOTE was a perfume oil sample from Evocative Perfumes, Fleur de Magnolia. Really nice, and worked better on my skin than some of the samples i tried earlier.

  4. Trying JHAG Vanilla Vibes. Which is vanilla for about 20 minutes on my skin before sinking into a vaguely scratchy woody thing of no consequence. I have yet to find a scent from this line that works for me; I had high hopes for this one because I like vanilla.

  5. Just a bit of vintage Givenchy Amarige parfum. Unfortunately, more than half of the parfum leaked during shipping. It was an amazing deal and bottle is really beautiful, a 1994 edition. It was originally full and now its less than half so that is what hurts the joy a little bit. The tissue soaked in parfum is still giving scent after 3 days, which shows how rich original parfum was.

  6. Now I am testing Yes I Do….heavy on the Lily of the valley. Tomorrow I may be scentless and then after I want to take a testing and thunking break and get back to my full bottles.

        • While I do like Dryad the price really irks me because to my nose it’s a clone of what I remember vintage Jontue smelling like which could be bought for babysitting money in the 70s when I wore it. I also REALLY liked what I sampled from Kyse. One smelled like the homemade lavender shortbread cookies that a local lavender store sells. Another like the lovechild of Pacifica Mediterranean Fig and Jo Malone Sweet Milk. Only that one would be a full bottle contender. I like the Veros but the price and the rarity make me feel as though I don’t need to seek out more than I have. Not sure if anything else made it to mental bottle list…my memory is shot… I kid you not.

    • Or wear your body oils, then you can truthfully say that you’re not wearing perfume (whilst mentally giving them the finger😝).

  8. I went out to lunch yesterday with a workmate Before I met her I went into Myer to spray myself. I chose Chloe Nomade Well within 15 minutes I had had 2 compliments, one from the sales assistant and the male bank worker . Then at lunch my friend asked what I had sprayed I had been wearing Nomade for close to 5 hours when my 4 th compliment was given by a supermarket worker So I think it needs to go to the top of my Must Have list

  9. Coolife Le Sixieme, a birthday gift from my sister. Floral, powdery, musky, woody. I get a lot of Iris from it. I’m vacationing in Moab, Utah and it is very fitting for the environment and weather. Another wonderful scent memory being created!

I received a sample of The Decay of the Angel by Timothy Han with my Le Sixieme gift. The fragrance has a very interesting evolution, I love the indolent floral heart. Are you familiar with it?

  10. New sniff. Shakespeare – Lover’s Complain (sample included in my last purchase at City Perfume)
Notes say juniper, amber, tonka bean and leather. 30mins in I’m getting combo of fresh cut grass and wet hay which could be the juniper? Hoping it lasts the day 🌞😀

      • Ingeborg, do you think there would be a difference between juniper and juniper berries? i just checked the notes again and it says juniper berries. I’m not really getting the leather, maybe a little amber but its more ‘green’ to me – quite delightful and has already received a compliment.

        • The dried berries of the juniper bush smell spicier and like the scent of our mountains to me (you find a hint of it in most types of traditional gin, I think), while the scent of the tree and its needles is much closer to the smell of Douglas fur or certain green, German sport rubs.

Are you sure the hay note is not an aspect of the tonka bean? I think Victoria over on Bois de Jasmin has described tonka bean in detail in several food related posts.

    • I bet you will miss your daughter, but good thing she has a summer job!

I have a question regarding oils: Do you think a vanilla pod which is well past it “best before” date can still successfully be used to scent a bodyoil?

And: Any tips on cleaning the pipettes and sprays, so bottles can be used more than once?

      Like

      • I would say yes to using g the expired vanilla bean.
I always use disposable pipettes but a reviewer recommended all alcohol to clean glass pipettes. And I have used dish soap and water to clean empty Perfume bottles and alcohol to clean empty oil bottles.

Crikey reported on her Instagram that she received a sample of Liz Moores’ new fragrance when she bought a bottle of Anubis. She describes it as Liz’s best thus far. OMG, I am busting to try it!!!!!!!!!

I have to find my sample of TdN…I put it to the side somewhere in the basement because my first try I got loads of baby powder. But I think it was Ingeborg who mentioned that there is a marzipan note so I will need to find it to retest again.

      • Yep, the TT is living up to the notion of the fiery redhead, and the terrible twos. The combo can be terrifying to witness😊 He’s also a real sweetheart most of the time.

        • That’s a feisty combo! Yikes. I’m sure those tantrums, when they come, are a sight and sound to behold. Confession: I did this only once. But I did do it. At about two years of age my eldest was throwing an absolute hissy fit and melting down right before my eyes. I accidentally on purpose splashed her in the face with a glass of water 🤭 Still feel guilty about that. On the other hand, it worked 🤷🏼‍♀️
