Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 10.6 – 16.6.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. More Fève Délicieuse, just because it was there! Still not finished packing for the coming two weeks, really need to organise my clothing better to make it easier. In all fairness I have gotten rid of a lot of old paperwork these last three weeks.

  3. First version Obsession for Men (it is amazing). Cinnamon is not a note I enjoy but so far there are two fragrances with cinnamon note that I love. One is Shiseido Feminite du Bois and second is this vintage Obsession for Men. I hate Lutens Rousse for the very reason that it comes across as cinnamon overload to me in which cinnamon completely overwhelms other notes. However, if you love cinnamon, Rousse has the most realistic cinnamon note I have ever smelled.

      • vintage Obsessions are quality creations and I have been amazed how cheap I have gotten them, thanks to research and patience. I think my last two bottles of first version of Obsession for Men cost me in $20s each and both were mostly full. i do feel bad at losing one auction of sealed box that was close to $30 or so. I do wonder how a sealed fresh Obsession first version smell like.

  4. Hello it was my birthday yesterday I wasn’t happy and nothing about the day was happy I went out to eat with some friends from work It was a disaster because the service was so slow . I ordered a risotto which usually is filling but I came home and cooked myself some toast! I wore Tobacco Vanille Please don’t mention my birthday

      • It really takes me back!! I think I purchased my first of many bottles in 1984? Then I stopped wearing it for many years. Saw an Eau Defundue with my eldest’s birth sign at fragrancenet for practically free so I snatched it up as one of my birthday bottle 😁

        Like

        • Ha! And just realized it’s my youngest’s birth sign too! Now the bottle is double special! I like also that it’s a pour so easy decanting but also comes with a sprayer if you want to spray. Wish all bottles were like this

        • Fantastic price point for the beauty and quality of the perfume. I had never heard of it until Portia mentioned it. I’m a latecomer, but love this fragrance. I have a couple of the zodiac bottles as back up!

        • Hello all Wednesday morning at 8 Amish I am lying in bed writing this . I can hear the rain on my windows and the occasional chirping of birds beginning their day The sky is dark and gloomy , not dissimilar to the mood in this place. I had intentions of trying the Tokyo Milk samples which Melanie sent me yesterday but I was too busy packing up “ stuff” that I couldn’t concentrate on them. The cheater is leaving me alone next week so I promise Mel I will wear them next week. As for now I can smell the last f remnants of last nights sleep scent; L’Occitaine body lotion and Yardley Lavender perfume. I am going to try to get a little more sleep now . Ciao

  5. Chris Rusak Bluer Skies today. Sunny but a little edgy. I bought a cute 15ml bottle – might have chosen his QUA (which has a L’Heure Bleue vibe to it) but the 15ml was sold out and I am so much happier with the little bottles these days.

      • Yes, undercover, sneaky, “interfering with my stuff” sort of goings on😉 I have gotten rid of armloads since last week. No way am I going to pack them to haul them around or store them! We have to get a push on to really clear up around here as the house selling agent wants house on the market by mid August at the latest. Good news is that very little work is needed indoors. The outside, though, needs lots of help. Not my department.😃

        Like

        • So this is a serious effort with a view to moving. Will you hire someone to do the outside? Are you talking landscaping or exterior maintenance? Brick pointing? Exterior painting? We talk moving from time to time, but LH wants none of it. He likes his basement work shop too much.

          • Painting the recently-plastered garage. Move out some of his ‘vintage’ tractors (just heaps of unsightly rusty shite in my eyes), power washing deck and paths and general bits and bobs. He will need a helper for sure as my still-not-working at 100% arm prevents me from lifting too much weight. I’m usually his assistant donkey but I’m gonna be busy indoors. At least the neighbours won’t have to put up with us swearing at each other😂 How spouses can work together beats me. I’m sure I’d hit him with a heavy tool if I had to work with him long term. Perhaps I need anger management classes. . .🤔

            Like

            • Hahaha! In that case, never go camping together. By the time LH and I had successfully set up sleeping and kitchen tents the sites around us had cleared out. People obviously wondered ‘if this is what they’re like on a sunny day one, imagine them on the fourth day of consecutive rain’ and ‘why do you suppose the mister is digging a moat around the tent?’ and ‘why is she stringing a clothesline around the mister’s neck’.

      • It is very soft and pretty. Musky with the ambrette very strong and a beautiful and delicate iris note in the drydown. It is long lasting. Full bottle worth for me, but too pricey. It was good to try it though!

  8. Tested Lys 41 last night (thanks MM!) and giving it a proper wearing today. I was mightily impressed with it based on the back of the hand test last night. For me it was tuberose with hints of jasmine. It was the development that had me sitting up and paying attention. A nice woodiness and then vanilla joined the flowers and the dry down was simply gorgeous. I hate it when I like a Le Labo. Their idiotic marketing ploys disgust me.

    Like

    • That’s my favorite of the bunch which is why I sent it to you. More to come of other Le Labo in the next package. Don’t fall in love with it, though, cause it’s pricey lol 😂💛 💚

      Like

        • But I promised Brigitte that I’ll never give my money to Le Labo because of their silly snobbishness. And I’m sure that if I ever walked into their little shop they’d shop me out as I don’t usually dress like a princess tippytoes when I’m shopping😉

  9. Home now and testing SSS Rose Musc, Velvet Rose, Vintage Rose and Rose Volupte ( thank you, Tara C!!) And they are DROP DEAD gorgeous. If I had a time machine I would go back 5 years and buy full bottles of every SSS fragrance.

    Like

    • No you wouldn’t, cos then there’d be none left for me😌 I have about 3 or 4 sprays left in my Rose Volupte, I think. How do the others compare? I never got a chance to try them.

      Like

      • Vintage Rose smells very ambery…My guess is there is labdanum in there. Rose Musc is a fresher rose with musk. Velvet Rose is smooth. If I was forced to choose I would say Rose Volupte is my favorite but if full bottles of all four fell out of the sky I would snatch them up in a heartbeat.

      • I LOVE FIG Brigitte! Ashoka by NVC, Premier Figuier by L’Artisan Parfumeur, Womanity by Mugler and Fig by Aftelier are the ones I can think of in my collection. Philosykos by Diptyque is another widely regarded well.

But on the plus side, I smelled amazing in SSS Winter Woods. Now I no longer need to hoard my full bottle! Let’s just pray that the prices stay reasonable when the new owner takes over.

  18. Rough night sleeping and a very busy day. Parents are coming up on the train for brunch and farmers market, then yardwork, mow the lawn, do the laundry and drive back to the train station to pick up middle one who is visiting a friend today. Might go with Tracy Reese since it reminds me of Antonia’s Flowers and my mom always loved that fragrance. It was she who bought me my first bottle of it around 27 years ago. My, how time flies!

    • I don’t know Pleasures Intense. But I will tell you that when I was in graduate school I ended up befriending a fellow student who was as much a perfume nutter as I was (she kept about 50 bottles stored in her fridge). When we sniffed those paper strips in the magazine of the original Pleasures we vowed to buy the bottle as soon as it was released (and we did). And as an aside, it was because of her that I met Mr. Marzipan (but that’s another story for another day!)
