Saturday Question: What Are You Waiting For?

Hello Fellow Fumies,

At APJ we have a Saturday Question. Everyone gets to chime in with an answer, chat with other responders and it’s a fun event each week. Taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

The idea is you’ll see it on the weekend or chime in through the week. Hopefully you will come back regularly and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them. The aim is to generate real conversation and connection even though we are scattered around the globe.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Secret Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)

Saturday Question: What Are You Waiting For?

Are you expecting a parcel? Have you shopped or is a friend sending you a package? Maybe there’s a bottle you desperately want and your waiting for available funds to purchase it? No matter how your waiting for your fragrant thing, tell us what, how, why and where it’s coming from…

My Answer:

OK, so one of the FaceBook groups do a bulk order from First In Fragrance every second month here in Australia. It’s usually a few bottles and when last I hosted it someone’s PayPal was a waiting to be cleared when the order went through so I covered it. That meant I’ve had those Euros sitting in my account awaiting splurge time.

Hiram Green – Slowdive

I bought the 10ml of Slowdive when it first came out and fell madly in love. Then another friend also fell madly in love so I gave her my 10ml and then I was sad. HA! So when I saw Slowdive on special this month at FiF I jumped on it so quick.

Caron – Pour un Homme Millésime

A few orders ago FiF sent me a sample of the new and improved Caron Pour un Homme. It felt creamier and more rapturously glamorous, a cur well above the original but still recognisable as a flanker of the original. You know how much I love the first, even in its current iteration. I saw that someone else was grabbing this and got excited.

Parfumerie Générale – Aomassaï No.10

“Inspired by Southern Africa and the art of the Baoulé tribe” all the yummy warming stuff with hay, incense and woods. It’s no secret how highly I rate Pierre Guillaume as a perfumer. Can’t wait to get a bottle of this beauty and spritz lavishly.

My Saturday Question to you is:

What Are You Waiting For?

  1. A package from fragrancenet which has two massively discounted Escada LE bottles for the eldest mini Marzipan’s birthday since she thunked her two other bottles. I also added a mini of Ombre Rose for myself for three bucks and a travel spray of Safari for 12 bucks to get to free shipping because I have wanted more Safari for a long time. This box was coming from a neighboring state but they sent it down south to Kentucky and now back up to Pennsylvania so it’s taking longer to get here!!!!

    • Ombre Rose is a lovely addition to your order and gift for yourself. It is such a vintage powdery rose musk, so gorgeous for such a relatively low price.

      • I haven’t worn it in 40 years. You get the enabler pin because you told me about that mini a while ago and I have been wanting it 😃😃

        • I hope it is still a love for you after all of these years! Every time I wear it, I’m reminded how much I love it (even more than Malle Lipstick Rose and Chanel Misia!)

          • I will love it because it will be a transportive scent taking me back to my teenage years wearing it in ballet class in Manhattan. A fellow ballerina turned me on to it back then!!!

  2. What a great question! I am (mostly) waiting for next month’s trip to Italy (first time in Tuscany and Florence!) so I can splurge on some Italian fragrances! Suggestions, anyone? We’ll be in Tuscany for a week and then splitting a week between Florence and Venice. Santa Maria Novella is on the list!

    • Hey there OH! I’m with Brigitte,
Profumo di Firenze Ambre de Nepal is amazing. I also have a bottle of their Patchouli but I can’t remember the rest of the name (I need to remind it)
O M G! Have you been to Santa Maria Novella in Florence? It’s amazing. We had a ball testing and seeing all the extra things other than perfume.
Venice also has a couple of choice perfumeries, one on the Ponte Vecchio and another in the maze of alleys behind the main square.
      Have a spectacular time.

  3. Oopsie!!! Forgot yesterday’s order! A free travel spray of Jo Malone Velvet Rose and Our for eldest Mimi cause she’s wanted this for a long time and a bar of soap for youngest mini for his graduation present as the Job Malone’s are his favorite luxury soaps.

  4. Slowdive is just great. I only have a small decant but full bottle incoming in the future. For now i’m expecting a package on the next week with a bottle of Clementine California from Atelier Cologne 😋 perfect for the summer heat 👌🏻

  5. Funds… or rather decisions about available funds…and then Iunx Talc, a FB of Shangri-La (discontinued and still some available at least last time I looked), and a FB of Unter den Linden (April Aromatics).

Opportunity to smell Les Eaux de Chanel, and 1957, I think it needs a visit to Amsterdam, and then possibly more funds…and samples of the last Papillon (fur of the cat or something, I never bought a Papillon, I often think this will be the one but even Dryad didn’t click with me), and this years Essences Insensees (Dyptique), tiaré…
    Slowdive is gorgeous!

  6. Slowdive is on my wishlist. I loved my sample and shared it with brother-in-law now all gone. Twisted Lily has had 20% off sales; however, Slowdive has always been out of stock. So I’m waiting……..
I’m now waiting for my fragrance.net order (they are slow to deliver but can’t beat the prices). I ordered bottle of Boucheron in EDT and EDP and a mini of Dali.
Also, I’m waiting for small decants from TPC of Dior Feve Delieuse (per Ingeborg’s recommendation, thank you!), Dior Ambre Nuit, and Ormande Jayne Rose Gold.
And I was waiting but received my bottle of Annick Goutal Songes from beautyencounter yesterday.

  7. I am waiting for funds… could be a long wait. But I plan to sell some backup bottles so I can buy the Papillon Bengal Rouge. Gotta have it.

    I looooove Slowdive too.

  8. I’m not waiting on anything in the post. I swear I’m not lying.
But I’m waiting on the release of Bengale Rouge, like a few others here. I’m also waiting to visit Floral Street in London next weekend. Hope I have time to get in there.
Think that’s all. Oh, I’m still waiting to win the lotto, no sign yet. . .

    • You and me both on that Lotto win!!! I would not have to worry about funding college and could quit my job and all the female drama that is currently happening 😉

    • You ought to be waiting on a ‘bday’ card from me, no less. I have all the supplies on hand to qualify it as home made. But I need to buy glue. And, there will be something in there for the Smallies, so that they can help you ‘decorate’ your walls 😈

      Like

      • Haha, I cannot wait! Will there be glitter? Will there be shiny things? Will there be a wig for Smally? 🤔 A wig, you might ask? OMG you should see the picture I got from my daughter yesterday evening. Smally was upstairs with her magazines cutting out pictures when she took a notion to trim her own fringe. The results are catastrophic 😂 she not only trimmed the fringe almost to the butt, she took a huge swipe off the top and from each side. So she’s now got the most unspectacular mullet. And her hair was so gorgeous. She saw herself in the mirror and started bawling, and her mam and dad probably had harsh words as well, though they were trying desperately not to laugh at the same time. So granddad and I had to talk to her to try and distract her. Poor thing was still sobbing. I couldn’t stop laughing every time I saw the pics because I was also a demon scissorhands at her age.
Oh, forgot to ask, will there be perfume😉

  10. Im waiting for my annual home leave to Switzerland in 2 weeks. Then I shall sniff to my hearts content (no niche whatsoever here in Chile and not a lot of the higher end department store perfumes either). And at the end of said home leave, hopefully I’ll owe a new bottle 😁

    • Hiya JHX,
The ethylmaltol has been huge since 1992 and no signs of it slowing.
Since so many of our favourite perfume bases have been restricted or banned there is far less scope and that woodsy oud smell has filled the gap.
Amber has been around as a major player since at least 1978 with L’Artisan’s L’Eau d’Ambre, you’re going to have to live with it too I’m afraid.
We are due a new thing, it should be along soon. I hope it’s to your taste.

    • Uh, and that musk filler that takes over from 20 mins in until the last 20 mins of dry down. Yawn. Puts me off all the recent mainstream scents of late. Joy Dior, Beautiful Belle Lauder, Burberry Her etc.

Delicious Delights’ Arlene calls it ‘lady musk’. Cracks me up, but she is right.

  12. Waiting for funds, mostly, but as I am in San Francisco this week a few $ might find their way into my hands for a birthday gift from my husband. (Although he usually finds out after the fact that he’s bought me something!)

  13. I am crouched in front of the mousehole that is Fragrancebuy for the wee sleekit mousie of a 10 ml Oud Satin Mood. I succeeded with Baccarat Rouge 540, and one day OSM will be mine.

  14. On a serious no-buy ( YTD = $0.00) but searching for a sample of 1957. Living in the middle of nowhere makes even mainstream stuff so hard to sniff. Still, I have been having so much fun playing in my own collection.

  17. A few things. First, TRNP’s newest scents. I visited Teone mid last month and got a flying trial of them all. Two are perfumes of her incense range, which are a hit with my eldest, Harsono. There are some terrific masculines I am keen to get my hands on.

Second, VELVET SPLENDOUR by Goldfield & Banks. Dimitri, if you are reading this, my thanks. You created one of Australia’s best ever scents. That mimosa is superb. It will be my treat/self gift for becoming qualified.

Third, that elusive bottle of Le Maroc Pour Elle by the talented and ‘Can I please spend a day in your company?!’ Andy Tauer. Just a funds issue. I am patient.

Last, yet another bottle of Chloe Nomade shower gel. Sheer laziness to go to DJs to buy. It has become a necessity item.

  18. I wore Cartier L’Envol edp for the first time and while top notes are not exactly my favorite, the fragrance bloomed after just 15 minutes or so. I am so impressed I think it might be the best perfume I have smelled this year and might also be the best designer creation I have smelled in a long time. It does not hurt that I also have Ted Lapidus Envol and love it. Mathilde Laurent has done an amazing job on this one though I don’t think Envol has gained much popularity in fragrance forums, unlike Declaration d’Un soir, also from Mathilde, which I did not like and sold within a week or so.

  19. I’m waiting for a chance (i.e. funds) to buy a fb of Bel Respiro. I fell so deeply in love 🥰 with it late last year- thank you, Mel and Jacki for my samples.

  20. I’m not waiting on anything. I do not even have anything on my “to buy” list – maybe a couple of samples… maybe. I wanted to say that “but several others are waiting for something from me” but it took me so long to finally put together the packages, that I don’t think they are even waiting for those any longer 🙂 But they go into the post on Monday.

  22. I noted this on another fragrance group the other day. For the past couple of weeks I have been huffing and sighing sadly after checking the letterbox and back doorstep and finding no fragrance. Remembered on Friday that I haven’t ordered anything!

  23. Ooo weee. I’ve got a bottle of Aomassai and just love it to bits. Sooo good for fall and winter. Yum. Discovered Slowdive only a few weeks ago and it’s a beauty so I’ve got a decant for when the weather gets cooler again.
I’m waiting impatiently to get a sniff of Liz Moores’ latest, Bengale Rouge. I think it’s out in August and Crikey gave it a resoundingly gorgeous review!
