Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 24.6 – 30.6.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Whoa, Alien, monster jasmine! It enters the room before me LOL! I picked up a sample after reading Fragrantica’s post on best Jasmines. I really like it but find it may be better in winter. Both my husband and brother in law commented it smelled good unsolicited. It projects well and a couple small sprays lasts.

    • Ah jasmine. It’s meant to be lush & heady. To me, it’s a very summer scent (the flower, that is)
      You smell amazing,

      • Agreed! Jasmine is my favorite flower in perfume, lush and heady, very indolic. Mugler scared me off after Angel, but Alien is wonderful. Very heavy? (Not sure that’s the best word) perfume though.

  3. Hey Portia, I was also tickled by your FB feed joke yesterday. I took a screenshot and sent it to friends. It’s very popular, gave everyone a laugh on Monday morning 😉

  5. Today I plan to test Zegna Indonesian Oud. Luckily I got the original 30ml size for $31 with shipping only. It has been rebranded and priced higher now though I guess the formula probably remains same

  6. I’m doing a ‘cheap n cheery’ week. Got my scents already selected so should be easier to pick from she says!! Adam Levine for Her was Sunday’s choice – lovely when you spray it but it does not last despite numerous top ups during the day. Maybe it needs the warmer weather? Yesterday was Queen by Queen Latifah, the one in the red bottle. Perfectly acceptable office scent that nearly lasted the day. Today is DKNY My NY.

    • I’ve heard Adam Levine mentioned quite a lot .Is it the one in a bottle shaped like a microphone? I’m in the Uk and saw that it was a good price. I’m on a bit of a no spend lately (sob) so cheap and cheerful sounds good.

          • Matty, what if I put it to you like this… would I buy it again, no. Would I buy it to get free shipping, then yes. On my skin I get a soft spicy, sandalwoody, musky vanilla. I am keen to try it in some warmer weather. I did also wonder if it would make a good base and add a little something on top. I have the boys version too which is quite different. I’ll wear that one later in the week and let you know xx

  7. SOTD was Laboratorio Olfattivo’s Nirmal. 100% of teenaged boys in my house approved, lol. My son doesn’t often comment on fragrance, but this morning he said “You smell really good!” Music to a mother’s ears.

  10. Hey Crew.
For Day 2 of PRiDE Week 2019 I wore two orange fragrances to go with the second stripe of the Rainbow Flag.
Liberté by Cacharel and Seville a l’Aube by L’Artisan. Excellent choices both.
Now I’m leaving the colourways and hitting vintage Joy EdT MMMMMMMMMM
    Smelling F I N E!

    • Yes to the SaL. It’s one great orange frag. A bit left of centre but that’s why I like it. Wish I had jumped on the Cacharel when it was still available. Oh well? It’s not like I haven’t got lots of others like them😏
What are you gonna wear tomorrow for yellow?

    • Assam of India!! I wore that one for seven weeks straight two summers ago and earned about 20 enabler pins on NST!! And it was a blind buy with a gift card given to me by my childhood friend who loves elephants ( I bought it for the bottle)
      How did you discover it?

  11. Fragrancenet package finally arrived!! It went from my home state to New Jersey to Kentucky to Pennsylvania and finally back to New York. The box was soft from getting soaked but luckily no damage because there were two presents in there for eldest Marzipan. Plus, my mini of Ombre Rose extrait ( gorgeous!!! Thank you, Kathleen for recommending it!! 40 years later and it still smells sublime) and my travel spray of Safari (while reformulated I still really like it….. and I just LOVE that fragrancenet is now offering travel sprays for dirt cheap!!!! Even niche with discount $12 USD)

              • Project getting back on my feet is going a bit too slowly for my liking. The problem is building muscle strength again, that doesn’t happen over just two weeks of intensive training, I need at least 2 or 3 weeks more, but haven’t been able to secure that help yet. Right now walking distance is not enough to function in society, on a bad day less than 100 metres.

Missed out on both exercise, massage and stretching at the physiotherapist’s yesterday. The ordered special transport paid partly by the regional health authorities just didn’t show up even an hour after designated time (yes, I did phone to ask already when they were 15 minutes late). So a stiff and swollen foot now which hasn’t had professional help for a week. I have had to take painkillers just to get around at home today, that is totally out of character. For sure I pay and organise my transport myself on Monday, no time for setbacks!

                • This entire process sounds terribly gruelling. I admire your patience, but it can’t be easy. Is there any physio work that can be done on your own, independently? I imagine consistency and frequency of specific exercises would go a long way toward rebuilding muscle strength.

                  • I do have exercises to do at home, but can exercise with more intensity when at the physiotherapist’s gym room, using an indoor rower, pull-down machines of various kinds and Redcord.

  12. I’ve been wearing Carnal Flower on repeat for almost a week. We’ve had such stunning weather and it’s just so perfect in the heat. We had a long weekend here, so I tacked on Thursday, Friday and part of today to make it extra l-o-n-g. The girls joined us in the country on Friday night with husband/boyfriend in tow and we all left today. Swam, fished, hammocked, bbq’d, hiked and sunned. Totally relaxing. The kitchen reno wrapped up on Wednesday (finger guy was grumpy but able to work) and tomorrow I’ll start interviewing ACad technicians to do some of the grunt work for the carriage house conversion. Currently working on bathroom project for a new client. Nothing outrageous, but a tidy little step up for them. Hope everyone’s been well!

  13. From Zara’s Tobacco collection, today is Intense/Dark/Exclusive. Reminds me of something else? Notes say apple, pepper, tonka bean. Not sure about the apple but I get the pepper. A little mint perhaps like JPG Male. Interesting.

  14. Last night in a cloud of Ombre 🌹…..sort of on theme with Sandra’s post. The drydown is exactly as I remember and also reminds me of several high end niche. I think it’s great to revisit distant loves and realize that they can be even better than some of the current offerings for a fraction of the cost. Even a poor perfumista can smell divine.

  17. Same here. There weren’t spring clothes worn. The heat wave we are going to face starting today and for the rest of the week caught me by surprise. I was not ready for it and tonight I have to dig out some of my summer clothes from the closest.

  18. First day of my three day staycation and I was doing manual labor in the ridiculous heat all covered up in work clothes and a large rimmed hat….no sun for me because of my skin cancer.
So I took a refreshing cold shower and now smell amazing in Safari. It’s not vintage but I still like it and would definitely consider that gorgeous full bottle. But I have to say that I am really impressed with the new travel sprays from fragrancenet and so thrilled that this is a new offering…..they have several L’Artisan and Serge Lutens travel sprays as well. And the price is right!

  20. New hint on my SOTD: additional notes won’t be found in a garden setting, rather, in the woods 🧐
Come on gang, put on your thinking caps ( as my Grade 5 teacher used to say) 🤓
I’ll give you all another hint later. Stay tuned. The winner gets a big beautiful bag filled with nothing 😏

  21. Going a little upmarket today, Narciso Poudree for me today. Thinking of you Cassieflower and hoping it’s a good luck charm for me today. I’ve put someone forward for a role in our office. Rather selfishly it will make a big difference to my workload (and sanity) if we can fill the role quickly with the right, attentive and committed person. Fingers crossed!

  23. Day three of staycation involved eight sixty pound bags of cement mix which the three of us hauled, mixed, cured and poured for the last manual labor project of this week. I was commando. But post shower I was reminded of how glorious Winter Woods smells in the heat (honey, caramelized amber and dark vanilla on my skin) after I sent some off to Kathleen yesterday. It’s odd but sometimes the winter fragrances are completely different on my skin as they literally bloom in the heat. Absolute Pour le Soir smelled of cat urine in the winter but then morphed into this gorgeous honeyed amber in the heat. I thunked a 10ml decant of it in about a week last summer!

Musc Ravageur is another perfume that I would typically use in the colder months, but I’ve tried it in the heat and it’s spectacular!
