Heeley Blanc Poudre by James Heeley: Breath of Fresh Air

Hiya APJ! How are you all doing?

I survived… The last day of school was on the 20th and we both came home and collapsed on the couch. Phew! What a year it has been so far.

Heeley is a relatively new perfume house to me. I tried Cocobello a couple of years ago and used up my decant quite happily. I never came across the Heeley brand in Rotterdam and therefore it slipped my mind. Imagine my surprise when I walked into a perfumery here in Basel and they had a small selection of his perfumes. I was looking for Iris de Nuit as I wanted to keep living in my iris bliss. Unfortunately they did not have it and instead offered his latest creation Blanc Poudre.

Heeley Blanc Poudre by James Heeley: Breath of Fresh Air

The Heeley website describes Blanc Poudre as follows:
“A powder white sensation
Originally inspired by French porcelain, this scent creates the feel and sensation of pure, white powder. A light floral and luminescent breeze passes over a cloud of fine, powdery whiteness. It’s apparent air of naked innocence, nuanced by an underlying warm, sensuality.
A Floral Bouquet
Cotton Flower, Rice Powder, White Musk, Vanilla, Sandalwood”

Even though the name of the perfume, Blanc Poudre, tells me that I am getting a powdery perfume, it is much more than that. It starts out as if I have dusted myself with a scented body talc. It is not talcum powder per se but something more complicated and elegant interlaced with white musk. I love this combination especially when it is scorching outside. Which by the way, it is blistering here this week (and there is no AC here).

What makes Blanc Poudre stand out for me is that there is a floral note woven together with the rice powder. Rice powder or flour does not necessarily have a scent. I suppose it entirely depends on the type of rice used. But what it does have is a sensual texture and pearly white colour. After reading that Heeley’s inspiration was fine French porcelain I can imagine holding an exquisite piece of Limoges.

After several hours Blanc Poudre has morphed into a luxurious skin scent dusted with vanilla and sandalwood. I bask in the drydown and hope to be able to smell like this all day long. Thankfully it has long staying power and gives me the sense of purity, cleanliness and freshness reminiscent of my recent trip to Lucerne with fresh and clean mountain air next to the lake.

Do give it a try if you like soft billowy powder scents. Do you like powder scents? Can you recommend other powder scents for me to try? Which Heeley should I try next?

Until next time.

Oodles of fragrant kisses,

Sandra xo

  1. Beautiful pictures, Sandra! Wish I could be there!
DSH Powder is a beautiful powder scent as well as Ava Luxe Angel Face. I also like Kenzo Flower and Habanita.

I love Heeley Sel Marine, Note de Yuzu, Hippie Rose and my favorite Iris de Nuit.

  2. Favorite powder is the sadly discontinued Alexander Julian Womenswear. The turquoise matte bottle with lavender marbled top that held the juice was beautiful too.
I haven’t tried too many Heeley fragrances but I do like Sel Marine and love Cardinal.

  3. Wow, wonderful review Sandra and I must get a sample of Blanc Poudre, I know I’ll love it as well.
The only Heeley I have is Iris de Nuit and it is beautiful.
I adore powder scents. Some of mine are DSH Powder; Mono di Orio Musc; Valentina Poudre; The Different Company Pure eVe; Talco Delicato by I Profumi di Firenze; Keiko Mecheri Loukhoum Eau Poudree.

  4. Interesting that you describe it as fresh. I never feel that powdery perfumes are fresh so this one could be just right. I’ll check it out asap. There’s a perfumery in the town center which has Heeley’s perfumes.
Orris Tattoo from Parle Moi de Parfum is powdery to me. You may like it because of the iris.
My favourite Heeley is L’Amandiere, a beautiful hyacinth with hay notes.

  5. So I literally just got my mini Ombre Rose parfum extrait in the mail (enabler pin goes to Kathleen) and it definitely smells powdery to my nose. Sandra, this one shows up heavily discounted online in the States ( I paid three dollars for this mini!!!) Perhaps you might find it discounted in Europe as well?

    • Thanks Brigitte. I have noted the Ombre Rose parfum extrait and will go look for it! Will have to research a European discounter too.

  6. I’m another fan of their two incense scents, but also the Vetiver Veritas and Chypre 21 (the latter is a summer standby for me). If Santa ever brought me a bottle of Iris de Nuit I’d not complain, ditto with Cuir plein fleur.

    • Hiya Crikey, thank you for your recommendations. I will certainly look for them. The Cuir and Chypre sound good. Sandra xo

    • Awww thanks dearest. I must admit though that it is so picturesque here that for the moment all we do is take pictures. All three of us. Hope you are both well.

    • Thanks Lynda. I was downtown today but just did my chores and ran back home. It is 37 out there with no wind. Will look for Cardinal next time.

  7. Was kindly given a big sample of Blanc Poudre and while I enjoyed it its powder-puffiness that was just the right amount for me. I have a mini-bottle of Menthe Fraiche which I stongly suspect will get a lot of wear this summer.

  8. Sandra, thanks to Kathleen I have now tried it! Mr Marzipan likes it too. He says it smells like 🍬 (candy). I have been doing a powder week with newly gifted fragrances. Off the top of my head: Pure eVe, Narcisco Poudre, Boucheron EDT, Stoned Salange, DSH Powder, MdO Musc and Talco Delicato. Still have about five more to test 😀

  9. Sandra, your review of Blanc Poudre was so intriguing to me, I had to try it. I had a somewhat different scent conjured up in my mind from reading about it; however, the fragrance is better than I imagined but different. The smell of what Porcelain might smell like is a good description to me. This is a very well-done clean, soft skin scent, not perfumey, floral, or very baby powdery to my nose. It’s more of a clean elegant white powder. I find it very comfortable and perfect for the office. Totally different from anything I have and definitely a pleasure to wear.
