Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 1.7 – 7.7.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. I was lucky to grab a bottle of Coty Chypre and am wearing it for the first time! Floral, oakmoss, musky soapy love.

  2. Wearing my brand spanking new Chanel Paris-Deauville. I’m so glad they are offering this in 50ml, athough there is a good chance I will actually use this one up – such a great summer option.

  3. waiting for vintage Tova to arrive. Have heard so much about it and excited to test it. Some reviews say it smells like China musk? anyone has experience with both vintage Tova and China Musk?

          • Has it been discontinued? I remember it being hugely popular at the time I bought it. The only place it could be bought was QVC.

            • From the reviews it seems it is still sold but the bottle shape is different and people say it has been changed a lot. There are few reviews that say it is same but most fans of original think current formula is quite different .

  6. Work training for two days. Left at 6 am but got lost so arrived late. 7 1/2 hours with no lunch. Came home and mowed half the lawn cause we had a freak hail storm with ice cube size pellets falling from the sky yesterday so no yardwork.
And Mr Marzipan says, oh, by the way you got a package. So wafting in Pure eVe and Poudre Blanc and my yucky Monday has taken a massive turn for the Betty thanks to Kathleen!

Wafting of Pure eVe and Poudre Blanc and I smell glorious thanks to Kathleen 💛💚💙💜

      • Last night Mr Marzipan actually asked to sniff my wrists after he saw me doing it. Now that was a first! Between the two he liked Poudre Blanc. He said it smelled different, like candy. I like it too but I really love Pure eVe. And it lasts forever even on my scent devouring skin!

        • Do you detect any almond with Pure eVe, as reviews commented? I do somewhat in dry down, but not overly almond scent to my nose.
I’ve decided Blanc Poudre is perfect office scent. Very soft and subtle, couldn’t be offensive to anyone, and I get a powdery sweet skin scent.

          Like

          • I do get a whiff of almonds but not that cherry almond note that is prevalent in Jergens skin lotion. Something about it reminds me of my custom made Brigitte but without the lilac note….creamy and powdery at the same time.
Poudre Blanc is definitely the perfect office scent!!!

            Like

            • I don’t get the cherry almond of Jergens either in Pure eVe, it’s more powdery, clean, soft musc with almond in dry down.
Is the cherry almond and marzipan scent related to heliotrope note? I’ve read that heliotropin is under reduced ratio in perfumery according to IFRA regulations and that is why fragrances with heliotrope smell less deep and almondy.
I looked and Pure eVe doesn’t have heliotrope listed in notes, but has “candied almond?”

              Like

              • Not sure if it’s heliotrope but it could be. Although Jergens still has that smell so I am not sure what aromachemical is being utilized in there.

It also has a powdery vibe to my nose. I think it would be easy enough to temporarily abandon exploration of current expensive niche offerings and focus on the old classics as they are equally as good and sometimes better. This is what I would recommend to a perfumista on a tight budget.

    • Yes! I completely agree!
Boucheron is a stunning beautiful fragrance. I wore it in the 90s and somehow forgot about it.
I recently sampled it at Nordstrom counter and couldn’t believe how wonderful it smelled. I then searched pricing on discounter sites. The value is unbelievable!

During the weekend I ordered some decanting supplies from StC and a sample of Mont de Narcisse, hope this won’t take long to arrive in the mail. I need to make some decants for friends and we have a typical Scandinavian summer, so little risk of anything getting boiling hot in the mail.

It sounds good, eh? Rice and powder? I just wish they made the bottles in 30 ml. I know they did years ago…at least some of them, like Timbuktu.

        Like

          • Don’t know 🤔 Maybe to make more money? Years ago 30 and 50 ml were the norm from what I remember.

            Like

            • Yes, definitely, my first Saturday job as a young teen was in a chemist’s shop that had a very good perfume section and there were very few bottles larger than 50ml, and many came in 30ml. It’s understandable from a company’s perspective that one large bottle is cheaper to develop and buy than providing a range of smaller ones, but I think people’s buying habits have changed in recent years and not so many have a signature perfume anymore, preferring to develop a perfume wardrobe that is varied – and plentiful😉 And in that case not many would consider shelling out for 100 ml of something that might be used only occasionally. Or am I just talking about myself?

              Like

              • I wonder about the size of bottles as well. Perhaps because fragrance in the past was more “perfumey” and had better sillage and longevity and didn’t need to spritzed lavishly? A little went a long way? So many modern formulations and niche perfumes are barely detectable after an hour or so or wear and require big sprays in my opinion.

                Like

                • Kathleen,
You hit the nail on the head. My skin eats up all the current stuff but the vintage lasts much longer on my scent devouring skin. Quite a few years ago I was in Macys and asked for the tester of Azuree. Because it read as “Cologne” I sprayed lavishly….oh boy! I left a scent trail every where I went that day in the mall! Even the old Aliage Sport Cologne from Estee Lauder was a powerhouse….so yes, a little really DID go a long way!

Cassie, you are so funny! don’t give up on the yoga! it is excellent for mind , body and spirit and once you start a regular practice I think it will help with your sleep issues too. It also has a very positive impact upon my mood….even more so than just mere exercising. But YMMV…..

On the other hand, I suppose it might drive up my value. Based on perfume observations, the oldest Shalimar vintages are the most expensive. Therefore more desirable. So I’ll take that formula and apply it to myself. Put that in your pipe and smoke it 🤣 And that is a quintessential old folks expression 😂😂

  37. Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue. I know, I know is a heresy for a perfumista to wear such an unpopular fragrance, but I saw the big full bottle all the way in the back of my cabinet this morning and I just grabbed it and sprayed lavishly on it. I had not reached for it in the past million years. I was surprised to find out that I am still fond of it. God! it has not evaporated a bit and it smells as good as the first day. I wish all my perfumes, especially the ones I love the most were as intact as Light Blue. Anyway, I still enjoy it!
