Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 8.7 – 14.7.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Byredo Sundazed. Nice sweet citrusy and flowery opening. Ten seconds later starts smelling like cheap laundry detergent. It doesn’t develop more than that. Very tenacious. After 3 hours it is still going strong. Good for a day where I will be outside at some of the construction sites. Not full bottle or sample worthy. Sample thunk!

  2. I am doing a chypre week, so started with Mitsouko. Still not a favorite, something about the dry sour peach is getting on my nerves….

    • Mitsouko was never a favorite of mine either. However, a co worker adored it so I gave her my bottle many years ago.

    • As much as I wanted to love Mitsouko it never worked for me. I ended up swapping the bottle not long time ago.

    • Don’t think I was ever so affected by a perfume as when I tried this. It was so melancholic that it nearly brought me down with it.

  3. I received my vintage Chanel 5 edp bottle so wore it. I got headache not long after I sprayed twice on my chest. The aldehyde is really strong in this one, quite reminded me of vintage Lauder Linen which has to be the most aldehyde-heavy fragrance I have ever smelled. White Linen is one of those fragrances I wanted to like and bought at least twice but both times it was a failure and had to sell it.

Thinking I’d wear something quiet and focussed…..um nope. Ambre Ceruleen by Huitieme Art

  5. Monday SOTD: Wore Le Labo Iris 39 for a shopping spree at one of our better shopping centres, which also happens to be disability friendly. Came home with a lot more clothes than planned, plus new olive oil, toasted savoury almonds, new shower oil and some cute little travel size products. Then got help tidying my flower boxes before my visitors had to go to the airport for a late flight home. SOTE was Prada Candy, the original. Love the burnt caramel smell from time to time.

    • Holy smoke Batman, you must be spraying ever so carefully- it was only a little sample. Either that or you only need one spray- I’m impressed and glad it’s found a loving home xx

      • It is Ah-DORED. Thank you 💕
I couldn’t use any perfume when I was sick & drs. doing tests and all. Plus Jacki sent me some too.

I think that there is a Chanel botique in Sydney- hopefully we can swing past and buy some. 🤞

  6. Bit late to the party… I wore the last of my Ashley Alyssa Amber Gris on Sunday – so delightful and one compliment. I think this one discontinued? Why do I find things I like, then find out they discontinued – guess I should check before ordering my samples on availability! Jill, by Jill Sander yesterday. L’Art Timbuktu today. Tick compliment.

  7. Home is the hunter. And what a welcome home pressie awaited. My lovely niece in Canada made me a beautiful birthday card, complete with glittery stickers, and she stuffed it chock-full of perfume samples😂 It is kid in a candy store situation here. Oh my gawwd, what to choose? I have one spare arm crook so trying out Providence Hindu Honeysuckle. I think it’s more Hindu Jasmine, really like this.
Thank you , Marcella High Priestess of Perfume Cards. Wheeee 💃🏼 🤸🏽‍♀️ 🌺🥰💋

  8. Diorissimo today. Writing about it on Sandra’s post reminded me how much I love it – the bottle is rather a fragile and impractical shape, so I keep it in its box, and it’s so much easier to grab one of the others. But today I made time and I am happy I did.

  9. Eldest Marzipan had a special delivery today…Berdoues Grand Cru Collection Azur Riviera…the bottle is gorgeous , the fragrance is gorgeous and the box is gorgeous! A slightly salty beachy marine that reminds me A LOT of LE Escada Ocean Bleue from 1995. I was going to give it to her for her birthday next month but decided to give it to her today because she passed her NCLEX and this is by far a huge accomplishment which is deserving of a gift. Plus, she is sharing her bottle with me-LOL!

  10. SL Santa Blanc. Beautiful in winter. (I don’t get the hit of spices that some complain about, but then you’d need a fistful of garam masala for me to say “a bit spicy, no?”😄)

    • Oh I got a huge dose of spices from that one but for me that was part of it’s charm. Thunked my adorable mini bottle which now sits in the basement ready to be turned into a Christmas ornament 🎄🎄

And on my left, Le Labo Lys 41. Now you’re talkin’🥰 reallll good. I’ll be wearing something from The Travelling Contraband Box for the foreseeable. And by the way yesterday’s Hindu Honeysuckle put in a stellar performance. Hours!

  12. PG Arabian Horse. Perfect for today. I feel like galloping the hell out of dodge. If they don’t mind their p’s and q’s, The Wealthies will soon be renamed The Jerkies 😠

  13. Miss Balmain today, and one of Antonio Gardoni’s unfiltered series samples yesterday. Both bloody gorgeous.

  14. Carnal Flower this evening. Celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary with dinner out and CF is my husband’s favorite. (I’ve tried Moon Bloom around him to see if he is reacting to the tuberose, but nope. CF or he won’t notice. Not a bad fate, after all.)

  15. Phew. The weekend has arrived. Wearing Douce Amère which is so much better in the heat. Serge and I do not play well together. I didn’t like this in the winter, but wow! great in the summer. The only Serge I like. But, then again, I have not tried them all.

      • It’s very cozy and lovely. But not an iris soliflore to my nose. It has a warm muskiness to it and maybe even a drop of sandalwood? I could be totally wrong because I did not read the notes but that is what my nose is telling me.

  16. I have been wearing Le Labo Iris 39 most days this week, plus tried again the Tauer Tuberose Flash, sadly not a new favourite. Did you all see that Tauer has to stop sending samples other than to a few select countries (more postal restrictions, again!). So sad, luckily the body oils can still be shipped!

Yesterday a few sneak spritzes of Un jardin sur le toit. It is lovely, but my stepmother has had her bottle for years without making a serious dent in it.

In the evening Friday more Le Labo Iris 39 to match my new summer skirt and to not disturb the scent of bread-y champagne and fresh seafood (a birthday celebration in the extended family).

  18. Wearing the last drops of Le Labo Iris 39 oil. I liked it a lot, but it was super fleeting on me. No intentions to replace it. I enjoyed for the time it lasted.

  19. I haven’t chosen my SOTD yet, need to have a look what samples I finally grabbed to bring along.

Just wanted to point you all in the direction of Bonkers about perfume. Vanessa has a sweet story about perfume involving an Australian lady and one of Portia’s perfume packages.

    • You know the onset of this one smells very vintage…something i may have worn in my distant past. The drydown hours later is a gorgeous iris.

When I finish exercising I will decide on what to wear next…might test Caron Parfum Sacre…it’s calling to me-LOL!

  20. Nomenclature Adr_ett on one arm and Para_iso on the other. Both samples thunk. Very nice perfumes, but found them very flat, uninteresting and fleeting. Money saved!

    • I agree…I tried two from this brand and I did not feel the need for more. Two more thunks for you and money saved 🙂 🙂 🙂

  21. Douce Amère again for a working weekend. It’s perfect for the circumstances. Unusual but not distracting and comforting but not boring. I’m busier than a one armed paper hanger. The Wealthie’s insistence on starting the carriage house conversion prior to the agreed upon (and contracted!) date has left me in a flap. My efforts this week in trying to get them to respect the contract were futile. They are lucrative clients and I could not risk alienating them so I capitulated. So the juggling act continues for a few more weeks. Still hoping to hang on to the sun and sea vacay in Maine. In the meantime we’re running before the wind in full sail ⛵️
