Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 15.7 – 21.7.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Iris Week part deux- Prada Infusion d’Iris….oh my my! This is so breathtakingly beautiful. I know that i smelled it many many years ago but I did not appreciate it’s beauty and versatility until now. I could see this being someone’s signature scent…so appropriate for any occasion!!!!

  2. Shalimar today. Sooo good. I worked till 1:00 last night and then couldn’t fall asleep. So I did what one does under the circumstances. I organized perfume. Pulled out all the ones I find not distracting and easy to wear. My version of no-brainers, if you will. Shalimar fits that category because it’s so familiar. I’ll be sticking to them for the next few weeks as I forge ahead. I will prevail #notawimp 🌝

  3. Eau de Minimes Cologne (or whatever the full name is). It’s one of the larger samples I brought with me on holiday. It is good, but I guess I like even cooler colognes, this one is more herbal.

    • I had a travel bottle of that one and plowed through it one summer. It was probably my most favorite citrus scent. I did not think to replace it because it was readily available and cheap at ULTA. Then ULTA and most US companies stopped carrying it and it became scarce and expensive.

      • It seems mid-priced here. After Douglas gave up in Norway, such things as 4711 and its flankers can no longer be found really cheap. And we have few, if any, real discounters.

I have a bottle of the Eau de Minimes cologne, bought at 25 % off, I think. I’m not sure I will repurchase, but admit I wonder what the different perfumes are like.

        • One of them is supposed to be a dupe for Spiritual Double Vanille (or however it is spelled). I had a decant of it which I thunked quite a while ago but I found the citrus one to be much more enjoyable for me.

and i once erroneously called it “eau de minions” and was called out on the carpet for my mistake-LOL!

    • I have an enormous bottle of the cologne. I’ve used the body oil for years. The cologne is good, but the body oil smells better. I use the cologne to spritz the bedding in the guest room.

  4. Day before yesterday I wore Alaia since the bottle arrived that day. I wanted to love it because of the name behind it and I think the perfume did succeed what the designer wanted to convey. However, it is just like but not love and it might be going to the auction block. Today, I sprayed vintage No. 5 edp on my ab 3 times to clear out the aldehyde residue, per Portia’s advice. I might be wearing this on the ab few more times. I did not spray in the air because I hate wasting perfume, haha, and spraying on the ab ensured the distance from my nose is far enough so as not to give me headache like spraying on the chest did.

  5. 4711 Myrrh and Kumquat. Pretty sweet for the “very nice” super summer heat. I will save what is left for colder temps.

  7. Just got back from the city. Eldest went in to visit college friend and I tagged along and met up with my mother. She took me clothing shopping and now I have a new wardrobe, completely black and a uniform so to speak so that I don’t have to think at all in the morning. We went to the huge Sephora on 34 Street and sampled a few things but nothing struck my fancy (the new Phlur , the name escapes me, smells like pickles and right away I though of Stash). In Grand Central Terminal we stopped in the Dyptique and went crazy sampling. The SA was impressed that I was able to pick out the notes without even knowing the composition of the perfumes…here’s what I tried- Eau Trois (gorgeous incense), LEau Des Hesperides (a citrus with heft., like it), LEau de Neroli, Fleur de Peau (my nose honed in on the iris so I might wear that one this week), Olene, Tam Dao, Ofresia, Do Son, Eau de Menthe (I know this got lukewarm reviews but I like it because of the patchouli, I enjoy the drydown), Eau Mohelli, Eau Lente, Eau Duelle and Volutes (how did I not know about this iris number?).. Talk about a sniff fest! I sprayed everything on those cards that they give you. OOO! and I forgot!!! I Sephora I sprayed the Jo Malone Orange Blossom in my hair and I was smelling it constantly!!! It’s quite good.

    • I do get the iris in this one and it’s beautiful but fleeting on my scent devouring skin. I think it requires lavish spraying or splashing.

  8. And the world is yours…..no it’s not ending, autocorrect!!
No idea on the notes but my nose smells a sweet, pineapple orange blossom at first….then it becomes a bit leathery while maintaining it’s sweetness. Off to research the notes!

  12. Hey my dear perfume friends, I just wanted to say Hi! I was browsing through your comments and I appreciate so much that you’ve been thinking of me ❤
There's nothing new going on in my world but always during the summer months I'm trying to spend the weekends at the coastside so it's pretty lively and hectical: work during the week, then off to the coast with friends and so on…tomorrow I'll go to a yoga retreat in the Austrian Alps and I'm really looking forward to escaping the summer heat for a while. I won't be reading my mails during that time so I'll be back next week.
I decided to take only samples with me this time, so I'm taking some Zoologist perfumes and FM PoaL and Un Fleur de Cassie but I guess I won't be using much perfume during the yoga sessions.
Sending you all a big hug!

Our guests cancelled – germy little ones. Sad. Upside-we do have a clean house, freezer full of food. And a night of ease with chocolate.

  14. Well, it is interesting how different certain fragrances appear on paper versus skin. The Fleur de Peau on skin was rooty iris, then baby spit up milk , then musk , then poof it was gone! Now I am in Hiram Green’s Voyage…I can smell the lavender absolute which imparts that suede aspect. Lovely.

  15. OOO! and I just read that Zoologist will be having Dawn Spencer Hurwitz creating a new one of theirs called Snowy Owl? Whilst I did not get on with most of the Zoologists I do like many of Dawn’s creations AND the owl is my animal so I will definitely need to get my nose on this one! Does anyone know anything about it?Notes?

  16. An ultra steamy day, so what am I wearing? Yep, Carnal Flower. Wearing as few clothes as I can get away with as temperatures are supposed to hit the low 40’s. Am I complaining? Heck no! I even decided to work from home (no a/c) as opposed to my office. And I’ll be doing a lot of road warrior-ing today.
All over the city checking out a stone mason’s references. If he passes my scrutiny he’ll be working on Monday. Happy days! We’re getting somewhere 🤗😁😝

      • Casablanca opens smelling like fresh cut flowers and stems, green to my nose. I love the evolution into gorgeous orange blossom, indolic jasmine, and I also get bitter orange or grapefruit peel. It blooms into a heady green floral masterpiece and because of the concentration, I can smell it for hours. Love!

        • It’s so indolic for me right away! Heady and gorgeous. It’s one of the few perfumes that doesn’t get devoured by my skin and lasts forever. Something about it (probably the orange blossom) reminds me of SSS Jour Ensolleile which is a huge love of mine.

    • Casablanca has quite a fan base around here. It’s just too much for me. Too much of what, I don’t know. But I can certainly appreciate the beautiful quality of this. Actually, I would love to smell it on someone else. I’d probably love it.

  18. The heat is really terrifying here! Heat index will be 115 later this afternoon. I am not complaining! I am working today. Later on, I will run few errands and stay inside for the rest of the day. I cannot wear any real perfumes with this temperatures, so I am wearing tons of Jean Nate, which has been reapplied many times already. After getting back home and taking another shower I will test some samples.

  19. Vanille Farfelue by JD Jeffry Dame. I had heard of Jeffrey Dame, but had not sampled his creations. Thank you Brigitte for introducing me to his fragrances! I am so impressed! Vanille Farfelue is the hugest blast of aldehydes I’ve ever experienced in a perfume! It is over the top crazy good if you enjoy aldehydes. The fragrance feels somewhat familiar to me (No 5 and Burlesque) but unique with the combination of vanilla and aldehydes. This is a fun perfume and a pleasure to wear.
I think this is the effect that Etat Libre de Orange was trying to do with Vraie Blond, but Vraie Blond’s initially bubbliness fell flat into a strange plasticky smell on me.
    Kudos to Jeffrey Dame!

LH was having a cool down yesterday afternoon accompanied by some rumbling thunder. Suddenly there was a blinding light followed by a massive crack. All I saw was a blur of white butt cheeks hightailing it into the house 😂😂
