SOTD 22.7 – 28.7.2019

Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 22.7 – 28.7.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. I’m wearing some of my brand new bottle of Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Florale. Just when I thought it couldn’t couldn’t get any better than it was originally they go and bring out this. Still 85% recognisable but now with added floral notes, and maybe citrus. Not sure what florals, haven’t checked, but I love it ❤️. And the bottle is finished in rose gold. Holy shmoke, what’s not to like?

  2. Overcast and calm day. The humidity is gone so I’m wearing Eau Duelle (again!). It’s not until I started wearing this in summer that I could appreciate all of the notes. In winter, all I get is vanilla. A very nice one, to be sure. Dry and unsweetened. But now, I’m smelling the juniper, spices and a gossamer veil of bergamot. Just gorgeous!
One more week of 14 hour days and pedal to the metal, then we’ll see if enough progress has been made to allow us to frolic in the waves in Maine. Fingers crossed!

  3. Cooled down a bit with a storm last night. I’m sampling Goldfield & Banks Velvet Splendour. Yesterday I put a dab of this along with Dusita Splendiris and Parfums de Marly Delina, this was my favorite of the three so it gets skin time. I’m not sure I need it (because, duh, I need nothing at this point) but I’m enjoying it.

  4. I am sort of boring, using Le Labo Iris 39 again. Looking forward to having access to my complete collection again soon. There’s also some decanting supplies and samples waiting for me at home, so will try to send some perfume samples for friends unless we really do get a heatwave.

Today with some sun and drifting clouds temperatures still are not over 21C. Better than rainy Friday when temperatures didn’t even reach 18C! More need for Portia’s list of perfumes perfect for spring than those for real summer, really.

    • HA! Only a true perfumista would say they are being boring wearing one of the worlds most famous brands and one of its more challenging scents. I love this hobby Ingeborg. We see the world differently.
WOW! We are having a week of 20C days here in the middle of winter, today is 23C and very comfortable.

  5. Just received a fragrant package and I think I am testing Climat . The juice is green and it’s soft and powdery. Beautiful fragrance.

      • Yes i think of Undina whenever I hear of Climat. I have been wanting to try it for ages. But now I will also think of Kathleen and pl67 because it came out in their birth year 🙂
and it’s a beautiful scent!!! It reads very powdery on me…soft, diffuse and very ladylike. I can definitely see why Undina loves it. AND best part is it’s highly affordable!

  6. Just a little bit of vintage Magie Noire. It is amazing. I think Magie Noire is a very unique kind of spicy. It is almost a benchmark spicy fragrance in my opinion.

    • Oh yes Fazal,
Magie Noire is the good stuff. I have one last bottle here. All the others I sold to Scotty who wears this so perfectly it would be churlish to keep it from him. I’m sure at some later date he’ll have this one too. It’s the old black, slope shoulders bottle, I love it.

      • Magie Noire’s popularity is well-deserved. I am now imagining a very well-dressed couple in which one is wearing vintage Bel Ami and the other is wearing vintage Magie Noire. It would be quite hard to smell better than such a couple in any room, especially, in the winter season.

  7. I’ve had little time to think about fragrances lately, so I have just been mindlessly spraying the same one daily for a couple of weeks: Frederic Malle Dries Van Noten.

  8. Matty, it’s quite different from my usual choices, makes a nice change and if I spray plenty it lasts all day. Glad you like it too xx

  9. Vintage Dioressence. Leaps and bounds better than the current formulation.
Dioressence I think is my favorite Dior, and that’s saying a lot!

  10. Today started out in one from the TCB, and I think it’s Caffee Milano or something like that🙂 and it was good while it lasted. Topped up this evening in Fleur D’Osmanthus cos I was feeling like hot stuff.

  11. SOTE was Etat Libre d’ Orange True Lust from the large sample Portia sent me earlier. I find more nuances now I’ve worn it at least four times. Still, it’s not something I need.

  12. Auphorie L’Anima Della Rosa. This one is very interesting. It’s an extrait and very potent. Full on rose and fruit.

  13. Jour d’Hermes EdP. I blind bought this last spring. Neither a disaster nor a resounding success. The first ten minutes I smell a very good grapefruit. After that, I smell nothing at all. What’s up with that 🤨. Meeting with the Wealthies today discussing short-term/long-term work strategy. All I know is they bloody well better not throw a hissy fit when I tell them about my upcoming vacation. I’m pooped. Long hours and working weekends are taking their toll. I am in serious need of some R+R. On the happy side we have another perfect summer day and, apart from two other people, I had the gym all to myself today. Which is essentially making a silk purse out of a sow’s ear 🙄

  14. Home and testing Salome I’m the heat. WOW! This reads like a different perfume! My skin is bizarre in that the fragrances that one would think to be better in cold actually do better on me in the hot climates. It’s a musky floral and gorgeous. When I first wore it several years ago in the winter it was not to be worn outside the house 😬😂😳

  15. I wanted to wear Salome again today but I am sticking with my. 🌹🌹 Week so I am in Lancolme Peut Etre…love the name and it’s a beautiful fragrance!!!
Tonight I will test Flux de Fleur 🐯🐱

    Like

    • so it’s iris and rose but I think what makes it unique is the usage of seringa flowers. This was a note in my favorite d/c Annick Goutal, eau de Camille which also had seringa, ivy and honeysuckle. Peut Etre is gorgeous. I had never heard of it and I thank Kathleen for bringing it to my attention as well as for sending it to me!!!!

  17. My eyes are rolling to the back of my head as I test Flux de Fleur…..this is sublime. I smell sweet, creamy suede and tropical florals and coconut….rich and dense but not overwhelming. Stunning fragrance. I will retest in the fall and winter to see if I can smell the animalics.

  18. Last day for roses so I am going with Burlesque which is a new fragrance to me. It also reminds me of Shalimar. Very sexy and beautiful.

  19. Wan Chai from the TCB. This is a fabulous dark and moody frag. Smoky, spicy with a dark rose and dry vanilla. A big night out perfume for sure. And if I was doing a blind test I’d swear this was a Papillon.

  20. I couldn’t wait until tomorrow so I’m off to work in Bengale Rouge. Gorgeous. I’m getting a gentle citrus opening, even though there’s no mention in the notes. And the merest hint of an aldehyde. It’s a lot softer than her other scents, and slightly creamy. Mmmmmmm

    • I can see a large decant in my not-too-distant future, hopefully. If only she did smaller bottles, as 50ml is too much more perfume round here.

      • I think you’re going to fall hard for this. Can you get your mitts on any there? If not, I’ll send my sample on to you.

        • I should be able to get it. At some point I’m supposing it will end up at Luckyscent and I can get a few samples from there. But thanks for thinking of me ☺️
The Guerlain I sent you. Is that in a long sample vial? Longer than the others? If so, that thing has picked up some incredible frequent flyer points. From Portia(PPP) to me and then to you. Better travelled than I am!

  21. I have been using 6-7 sprays of Maison Martin Margiela Untitled (a comment on here reminded me to find my bottle) and then 5 sprays of the neroli scent from Y. Rocher. It was a fresh green combo!

So, it was around 32C Friday at noon, pretty close to the highest temperatures we ever have here. I refuse to complain since my muscles like the heat. Having had to leave the summer house/cabin early Thursday morning, I spent the best part of Thursday and Friday indoors in bed with a migraine, but luckily the warm weather continues for a couple of days,so I can enjoy some sun on my balcony. And now I take care to stay hydrated, it is so easy to forget.

  22. It’s a Guerlain mystery scent from the TCB. It’s a gentle, green, maybe irisy and tea scent to my nose. It’s reminding me of one of my Annick Goutals but haven’t tried a side by side. C’mon Marcella, put me out of my misery😆

  23. I finished a sample of Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile today. I wanted more of a scent cloud wafting around me, so after one hour put on Guerlain Cherry Blossom on the other arm. These scents have now been playing nicely together for about five hours plus, not bad at all in more than 30C heat.

  24. Chanel no.5, vintage cologne made in the US in the 70-es (maybe even late 60-es). Huge love. I won another bottle similar to the one I have, but the new one is from France. I can’t wait to do a side by side comparison.

    Like

    • Wow!! Nothing like vintage no 5 cologne. The 70s is about the time I started wearing it. You smell amazing, Diana. And I must have ESP because every time I think you you , there you are!!! Have also been thinking about Saffy…hope she is OK.

      Like

    • Nice! Please report back on your side by side comparison Diana. Despite my numerous perfume loves, No 5 will always be number one for me. Yesterday I did a comparison of No 5 Eau Premiere (2007) and Chanel L’Eau (2016). No 5 L’eau is a lighter and fresher interpretation.

      • It has held up amazingly! This is the “oldest” fragrance I have ever sniffed! It smells very much of vintage era, but none of the burnt top notes which is common in vintages I have sampled. This one is in extraordinary condition. A pleasure to experience! My vintage-loving and appreciating heart thanks you so much!

  26. So it’s still unusually warm here, but I’m not complaining. Have had two cold foot baths today, sorbet and sodas. Torrential rain an hour ago, plus thunder and lightning. I didn’t think that was due before tomorrow, but there you go.

SOTD is Hèrmes Le Jardin de M. Lie from the set of miniature bottles bought last summmer. It is a good perfume, but I’m closer to buying a bottle of Un Jardin sur le Toit.

    Like

    • I envy your torrential rain, thunder and lightening. I love rainstorms when I’m indoors. Those Hermes Le Jardins are very fresh and lovely in the heat, aren’t they?

      Like

      • Yes, those Le Jardin perfumes work well in the heat. I also tend to recommend them to people looking for a new perfume for daily use, they are relatively affordable and widely distributed and lack that cloying candy note.
