Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 5.8 – 11.8.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Happy Monday everybody. I had a Mugler weekend as I was hopping around the country. A quick pit stop at home to empty and repack the bag and we’re off on the road again. Fun times with family and friends. The next couple of days will be Frederic Malle, today it’s Parfum de Therese.

    • Therese. One of my favourite perfumes ever. I am nearly out of mine and hoping an old bottle will come my way by magic – and I keep a look out. I really want it. In fact the only perfume up until now I would actually like to replace. ☺️

      • My bottle is a newer formulation and it’s slightly different to the one I had before. I have another travel spray on the way, I was shopping from the comfort of my bed on Friday night😉

      • Aha!! So that would be your answer to Saturday’s question had it not been 20th century….. although the original custom scent was indeed made in that century, right?

  2. Dior week!!!
Dolce Vita…..fruit, vanilla and cumin to my nose….. delectable! I think I love it even more because I recognize it as a scent of someone I was friends with 25 years ago. She wore this a lot!

  3. Heretic Dirty Mango from my birthday travel spray. I bought this on my San Francisco trip, as a bit of a lark. It’s not as good as Bombay Bling but the travel spray was affordable and it’s fun.

  4. vintage Samsara today. Yesterday it was vintage Coco and it lasted for more than 24 hours with 2-3 sprays, well until I took a shower today. I feared Coco would have huge projection but thankfully that did not seem the case though it does last a long time. Maybe the key to wear vintage perfumes with reputation of being loud is to go easy on sprays.

  5. Just sniffed one of those scented papers you’re supposed to rub on your hand to get an idea of a new perfume. This was Cuir de Nuit from Y.Rocher. Seemed to be a lot about vanilla and possibly only a hint of leather. Not ordering anything now, so no free miniature bottle for me!

Have been without perfume during my hour of exercise today and some housework, now will put on some jasmine or amber perfume before bed.

  7. Wearing Salome this evening. My youngest daughter is not a fan. She prefers soft, floral and girlie perfumes. Salome is anything but girlie! 🎶 Man! I feel like a woman 🎶 Hey LH! Get your white butt over here!

  8. I’m doing a short stint of house sitting so on limited supplies!
Have one for the ‘thunk’ list – Gucci, by Gucci – the one in the big, chunky brown bottle. Kind of glad its gone as i couldn’t say i noticed it at all yesterday. Having said that it doesn’t quite feel right throwing the bottle out into the recycling.
Today is the perfectly acceptable office scent Adam Levine for Her. And in case i run out of time, tomorrow is already planned. It’s ‘make an impression day’ as we have our national sales conference so I’m going to hit ’em with Timbuktu. Who cares about all that sales guff – what’s that gorgeous scent!!

  9. I had my first official thunk a couple of weeks ago, Purple Reign 15 ml travelspray. Since then I bought a FB and wore it yesterday. It is fleeting but on days that I am too head- or other achy to wear most perfumes this one always fits the bill. Went on with more AA later, Liquid Dreams.
Are Jin and yourself feeling better Portia? I was sorry to read about you both being ill so shortly after each other. And a belated congrats on your 1 year marriage! Keep going from here and you end up with 20 years soon enough!

  12. On Monday I was wearing Ricci Club. This is one of those discontinued gems, a bit of a powerhouse, old-fashioned thing, not for the faint-hearted.

Back in Rocabar today. Time to fish a few more bottles out of the packing cases, for a bit of variety.

Then post 🚿 I tested the Amouage….Fate, Lyric, Ubar, Opus III, Journey, Memoir….wow! I have a huge appreciation for this 🏠….they are all exquisite perfumes! 18. Wore some Chamade edp yesterday evening. I still have half a bottle left, so should use it more often!

Today L’Occitane Grapefruit and Rhubarb. It is a scent I ca use both at the office and when exercising, so was perfect today. Enjoying the last of summer, it was surprisingly sunny and warm today. Not enjoying much the fact that our lift is still out of order. Neighbours are still helpful, but I obviously have to get up and down those stairs on my own. The post-workout shower feels ever so good on days like this, and I can put on a new perfume.

      • No patience left, I’m afraid! Doing as much as I can of cardio and not least strength training. I only know too well things won’t get better by magic. I only have my physiotherapist to help me, but he is indeed a much needed help, helping with stretching and massage up to three times a week.

Getting shockwave therapy on a painful knee is what I have to pay for myself now, otherwise I have paid so many medical fees this year that basics will be free for the rest of the year. But really, wish it was easier to get appointments in the late afternoon, I’m trying to get normal work done at least three days a week and it takes some planning.

  19. Testing PPP Bay Rum on one ✋ and Heeley LAmandiere on the other ✋. Both delightful in there own way. But the Bay Rum needs time to develop and when it does it’s delicious. Reads masculine but little old me would definitely wear it. Full bottle worthy in my book once you get past the initial opening.

Dark skies, rainy, windy and bloody cold – 19C. How revolting. Wearing Le Mat to add some cheer. I haven’t touched it all summer because it really is heavy, dense and muscular. But the patchouli really makes itself know in moderate temperatures. Holy Moly!
