Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 12.8 – 18.8.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  2. Today I sprayed Le Jardin Retrouve in my ponytail, lasts way longer than on skin and is nice and fresh/cologne type scent. It was warm enough today to feel right.

  3. We’re having weird in-between weather atm. Not hot, not cold, sometimes rainy, sometimes sunny. Vintage Miss Dior EdT is the only thing that seems right.

  4. Post manual labor outdoors shower and now wearing Gabrielle EDP. I know it got lukewarm reviews but sorry folks, I LIKE IT!

  5. I have tried:

    1. Vintage 1980s formula of Grey Flannel(I feel the modern Grey Flannel formula I tried in 2010 or 2011 was pretty faithful to the original).
    2. Vintage Knize Two (probably first version and it is clearly a dupe of Grey Flannel. Knize Two was released few years after Grey Flannel so probably tried to exploit the popularity of Grey Flannel).
    3. Chanel Coco Noir. I think Chanel Coco Noir is nice; it is clearly inspired by Coco Mademoiselle rather than original Coco. I don’t own Coco Mademoislle but have smelled it.

    • I loved the original Grey Flannel and had my own bottle of it in the early 80s. Back then folks thought it was odd that a teenage girl would wear such a masculine scent but I loved it. Good to know reform isn’t so different.

      • Grey Flannel remains unique and controversial to this day. I think the top notes scare people off and they also baffled me for a long time. It was only after years that I acquired my first bottle because I was buying another perfume from a seller and he offered this as an add-on for a really low price. Grey Flannel is a perfect example of a fragrance that is not exactly pleasant but it intrigues you.

  6. Today was L’Occitane Grapefruit and Rhubarb. Not sure after all if I like to wear scent while exercising. SOTE was a few sprays of Le Labo Iris 39 and then a little Chanel Gardenia on top before bed. Floral, creamy mix, so good.

    • Oh no! That wretched cold snap we just had. Rug up & drink honey +ginger tea.
I think I like the Just Gold but I can’t remember.

  9. Chanel Fortnight
31 Rue Cambon for youngest bday cause it’s one of his favorites. Gifts for him include three Jo Malone soaps, four Jo Malone travel sprays and a bottle of 1000 Flowers Ode for Him which I will be stealing a bit of because it’s that good. We’ll be heading to his favorite Indian restaurant for an all you can eat buffet for lunch.

  10. Yesterday I pulled out the Lolita Lempicka Fleur de Corail since I hadn’t touched it this summer. Kind of salty floral. It didn’t make it to dinner, so I found a sample of Tauer PHI and sprayed that for the evening. Now that one lasts. Today I decided to try a random number choice from my spreadsheet. Ô de l’Orangerie came up which works just fine for summer!

  11. Speaking of longevity I am loving Le Mat’s tenaciousness. I wore it last night and could still smell it this morning. And it lasted through my walking and gymming routine.
Decided to wear it again post shower and the office smells gorgeous. My newly hired assistant was very complimentary. Or maybe she was just trying to suck up 🧐

  12. Wearing the gorgeous Vero Profumo Mito for a day off from work taking my mother to her monthly doctor’s appointment and Thai lunch at her favorite restaurant later. I am relieved that Vero Profumo is not available anymore, otherwise I would indulge in a full bottle of Mito without hesitation.

  13. I wore Le Labo Iris 39 during a long day at work and later refreshed the scent twice. There cannot be much more than 1 ml left in my little spray bottle and I have yet to decide what I’ll buy to replace it.

  14. Went through some samples and ended up putting on Guerlain Le Parfum du 68. Not sure I really love it. There’s only about 2.5ml left in my sample. Had to run some errands and found myself at a perfume counter. I wanted to try Chanel Paris-Riveria, but they didn’t have a tester. So I sprayed Biarritz on the back of one hand and Deauville on the other. Then I tried hand and body lotion by Molton Brown in Suede Orris. The mixture of all of this is making me happy even though it’s mostly faded. That is, except for the base of the Guerlain, that’s purring along quietly.

Marcella, you have inspired me to look out my fave, tucked away, cool weather perfumes. I probably only have a couple of weeks before true spring hits.

  18. Teint de Neige. Just snuck in on Friday afternoon. Where the Dickens has that week gone? I’ve barely had time to think for the past two weeks or so. That would be a FORTNIGHT of whirlwind activity. I’m about ready to calm down a bit. Does anyone ever get sick of people all the time? Or is it that I’m a grumpy old hag? Answers on a postcard, please (or maybe not).

    • I do get tired from too much socializing and prefer to be a 🐻 in my 🛏️ cave in my bathrobe all day long . But then again maybe I am also a grumpy old hag lol 😂

      • Ha, it’s not ALL socialising. I’m not a total party animal all the time. Just some of the time😉 Have had a lot of family staying recently and The Smallies have been here for the past week and I’m exhausted from v early mornings and full on days with no down time. Tough gig keeping all the balls in the air when there’s not much sleeping time. I feel like an unpaid hotelier🤪

        • Eek!! That IS rough! We spent two hours yesterday in the Department of Motor Vehicles with a toddler whose grandmother had no qualms about letting her run rampant….she was rolling on the floor laughing, jumping across the floor loudly and singing at the top of her lungs. I had to say “Shhhh….someone is taking a test!” When my son was taking the written exam for his driver’s permit with her less than two feet away making all that ruckus. Two hours of this!! Makes me marvel at the fact that I managed to have three!! LOL 🤣 😂

    • I love that one. And it’s cheap as chips on the Inland Fog website. I used to buy their soaps and I loved the fragrance of the Hinoki Woods soap so much that I asked the owner to sell me some of the actual oil to wear as fragrance. After that, he started selling it on his perfume oils web page!!

  20. I am going to put on some Fendi Theorema before heading to bed. The Saturday question reminded me of several good scents I should try to revisit via samples and think about buying for the colder months, one is Fils de Dieu, another is Botrytis. But is Botrytis still in production, I wonder?

    • I wear Fendi Theorema occasionally, I have always loved that scent. And Botrytis! I have a bottle and adore it. The bottle and gold bag are so pretty and the perfume beautiful and rich.

  21. Wore Bulgari Mon Jasmin Noir during Sunday. This one does show some signs of not ageing very well (feels dusty in the last part of the drydown), so I should make a point of using it more often for work, before it turns. I must have 20 ml left, and am pretty certain this one won’t keep for another two years
