Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 26.8 – 1.9.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Found a stall selling locally produced essential oils today and came home with fantastic Australian sandalwood. Which I now smell strongly of. (Nice grammar Jackie b) Planning to make a body oil, and it also goes into skin creams for Mr B.

    • Love pure sandalwood oil. I like the way you are using it too! I love making body oils with carrier oils and essential oils. I am currently using a lavender/patchouli one every night. It’s my night time ritual. Slather it all over my body and wake up to soft skin.

  2. Narciso Rodriguez EDP. Starts out as something that gives me backbone, I feel, then today it settled into warm powdery goodness.

    • I kind of like the house being quiet because I now have the ability to clean without anyone complaining that I am invading their space! and I will try to get you a small container of Nubian Heritage raw shea butter in the package going to Marcella soon. I am still waiting for my 2ml sample vials which are coming from China so that I can make large enough decants that won’t leak ((the dabbers are virtually leak proof…not so much the sprayers). As soon as they come off to Marcella they go …including some powders from Kathleen that I know you will love.

      • I’ll get my act together and send Marcella some stuff as well. I’ve been so hectically busy fir the past month that I haven’t had time to dedicate to getting samples done. And I can’t even remember what I said I’d send🙄 I need a memory jig.

    • That was my first full bottle purchase from SSS many many years ago. It was a 15ml splash extrait which I bought for $34. Sadly once thunked I did not save the empty bottle. You smell beautiful and you are house twins with pl67.

    • Fantastic fragrance, Fazal. It takes me back to my youth…wore that one like crazy when I was 18. It was extraordinarily unique and unusual…very polarizing scent but I just loved it. Many many years later when I finally got my hands on violet leaf essential oil, I understood why I loved Grey Flannel so much .

      • Brigitte, so you are saying the violet leaf in grey flannel is quite realistic… I didnt know how violet leaf smells but it does give me vibe of tomato stem in Grey Flannel. There are all kind of violet perfumes that can smell so differently from each other so I thought the violet smell in Grey Flannel is just the magic of the composition. I did not know the note of violet leaf in grey flannel is actually quite realistic. Maybe I should have considered the possibility that violet leaf and violet may have quite different smell and other perfumes tend to employ violet note rather than violet leaf note. Thanks for the info.

          • Funny but now I am reading reviews on Grey Flannel. The writer of Pour Monsieur blog says it’s the violet leaf that turns some folks off to Grey Flannel. But I see that it also has violet listed as a note. violet leaf smells like fresh cut grass…. it’s very bracing.

            • Hahhahha, what a coincidence. I have also read the same article this month. I think Grey Flannel until at least 2012 was still pretty decent and faithful to the original. unfortunately, I have not smelled any version after that.

  3. Commando…all day long…I even forgot to shower!!! I am a little bundle of energy massively cleaning the house! Vacuumed all floors before mopping three quarters of the house (we have no carpeting), tested and threw out a whole bunch of old pens and pencils, cleaned the pen/pencil holders all around the house, organized the girls’ old college books and notes in the basement, made decants to be mailed out, ran some errands, did some online work training videos and texted the mini Marzipans all day long.
Now I am FINALLY sitting down to APJ and gave myself a spritz of by Killian Love and I must say that I smell amazing. I am making the most of the last three days of my staycation. Tomorrow I finish mopping the living room and all the floors have been given a good thorough cleaning.

  4. Wearing Lubin Idole today. We’re going to see the Soweto Gospel Choir, so an African-inspired fragrance seems the right choice.

    • You won’t believe me if I tell you that I finished a 200 ml bottle of that beauty. Right now eldest has her travel 30 ml in her apartment.

      • I would believe it because it’s the type of fragrance that you keep your finger on the sprayer and just go crazy. I find the opening blast almost addictive.

        • Part of it also was that everyone wanted decants. And because it was so large I was making 30 ml decants! The very last of it I decanted into the eldest mini’s bottle and now it’s hers. I agree..it needs to be sprayed every hour or two…instantly puts a smile on your face!!!

  5. I did finally shower last night and wore Love again to bed. After I clean, exercise and do some yard work this morning I will probably go with Love again post shower. I am wanting simplicity right now and don’t want to think about what I am wearing. Tomorrow , though, I might mix it up with Vrai Blonde…such a great aldehyde bomb that segues into a gorgeous drydown.

  6. I’m wearing Le Mat today. An exceptional beauty for an exceptional day. I managed to dig myself out of a very badly time-managed part of my current project. On schedule!! The design package is in the client’s hands and a G&T is in mine.

    • How was your first day back at work? I just got a really funny text from a friend in NY who’s back to school this week. It goes thus:10 minutes at work and I start using ‘F*!k’ like a comma.

      • ahahahaha!!! That’s about how it was for me-LOL! (where in NY???)

It was a whirlwind of a day! This year I am going to hide in my office, mind my own business and as best as possible not get involved in the politics and the crap that goes on because of cronyism and nepotism….try very hard to live in my own little bubble and just do my job….y’all need to remind me of this when I go off track 😉

      • Not quite finished, was feeling under the weather today, like yesterday. I have all the information I need and think I will make the presentation a simple one, knowing the other persons present on Monday won’t be able to absorb all the details at once anyway. What I’m presenting is well needed background information before one attempts to make a contract with a supplier of services, there will be a couple of weeks to supplement information, if needed. I headed to bed yesterday in Fève Délicieuse and that is what I have used throughout the day today.

  14. Was MIA yesterday. Was wiped out after a procedure in the morning. Damn but I could use some of whatever they gave me for sedation. I’d never again have a sleepless night. Afterwards I put on some Angel Muse. Today it’s one that I haven’t worn in yonks, Cartier Baiser Volé. Gorgeous, if I do say so myself.

    • Send some of that sedation my way 🙂
Hope everything went well with the procedure.
Isn’t it funny how we neglect our full bottles because we are constantly sniffing new things? I really do need to get some sort of schedule going so that I wear a bit of both.

      • It’s just ridiculous how many bottles aren’t being touched because of testers and decants. I’m putting together my list of stuff to send to EL Mulo and hope to start decanting this weekend. Gotta get my act together.

  15. Commando today, feeling under the weather. Sore throat kept me up last night and it doesn’t want to go away. I refuse to get sick on the last long summer weekend. Maybe a remedial shot of whiskey will do the trick. Can’t hurt to try. And if it doesn’t work? Try, try again!
