Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 2.9 – 8.9.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Heeley Iris de Nuit. I have always loved it, but, for some reason today there is a note in the drydown that is bothering me a lot. Almost headache inducing. First time that this happens. The longevity and sillage are very tenacious. I am happy this last sample is gone.

      • It’s not really unique. Next perfumes are smell-a-likes. Very reasonable price. I got a 3 pack of Cashmere…Just Pink..Eau Nude on special offer. 30ml bottles for £18 (I think) Have a look on their website and Fragantica,

  2. Lazy sloth-like day. Gray skies, spitting rain. Very still. For the life of me I couldn’t decide what perfume to wear. Just read about Oriental Leather, a new release by Memo. Sounds good! So, I figured Tiger’s Nest. Which I really should just pull the trigger and get a bottle of. It’s perfect for the upcoming season.

  3. This morning I put on Liz Claiborne Realities then when I got home from the barn to do a cookout, I put on Shalimar Legere.

  4. I am wearing Nautica Latitude Longitude. It is my favorite Nautica (I cannot stand Nautica Voyage and am baffled by its popularity, it is still ubiquitous on NY after more than ten years of its release because it is just so cheap and seems to garner lot of compliments according to its fans). I also think Nautica Latitude Longitude is the best name and bottle Nautica has ever used for their masculine fragrance. The fragrance is similar in style to, let’s say, Aramis New West for Him and was clearly following the trend popularized by Cool Water.

  5. zoologist Camel for me – it’s my good luck scent. Had my yearly review today, was gonna ask for pay rise but meeting cut short. Review to be finished later in the week so will ask then.

    • Bum on that review! Not great to be left hanging. We’re house twins, though you’re smelling fab and I smell a bit like an old boot.

  6. Zoologist Bat. It’s ok, no I don’t like it, it’s ok, no I don’t like it. This has been the recurring theme today. I think it’s just that little bit TOO fusty for me, though I like a bit of fust. Confused? I certainly am😄

    • Oh gosh. That was such a weird one on me. Smelled like nothing more and nothing less than soil. Really good, hummus-y, rich soil that will make perennials grow like they’re on steroids. But honestly, I could not stand it on my skin. Too dank and moist. I confess that I tried it twice and scrubbed both times. I know, I’m a wimpy perfumista 😑

      • Well I’m toughening it out. Typically, when you’re unsure of something or dislike it intensely it sticks around like the plague. This one is not for me. Money saved. Wohoo.

  7. It is raining cats and dogs, and there is a chill in the air. Summer is over, no doubt about it! Binge watched the crime series Shetland (season 4) yesterday evening. I really like the actors in that series, and would love to go to Shetland some time, in the summer that is! I Guess it would still be windy and wet.

Have been wearing Fève Délicieuse several evenings and just Korres White Tea, Bergamot, Freesia in the day, because it is easily at hand and office friendly. So happy to get feedback from a friend to whom I sent a decant of Fève Délicieuse, she really enjoyed it even on a day when she was feeling a bit out of sorts.

  8. Apologies folks for being MIA but work is absolutely insane! I will be lucky if I can pop in once a day.
Came home to a PPP which hit the spot given my shite day. Tested Santal Blanc from Van Cleef and Arpel…yumm…so good…

  9. Posting very late. I wore Mancera Choco Violet today. Not at all a line I gravitate to but I read a review and….. you know how that goes 🙄
Didn’t like it much the first time. There’s a note in there that reads a bit bitter if I smell it closely. But today it’s smelling rather butter-scotchy. So no complaints from me.

  10. Can’t decide this morning – got Zoologist Elephant left wrist, HdP 1876 on right. Elephant is a bit green and fresh at first, 1876 just winning for its spicy leather.

  11. TGIT. Cold & wet today. Vintage Shalimar to celebrate both. Husband has kindly taken the son to a mate’s birthday. A quiet evening for me, with pizza and a good book.

    Have a fab weekend, Everyone!

  12. and I am going to have to come up with a plan for both sampling and wearing my collection for moving forward. I might spray familiar in the morning and then save sampling new goodies for late afternoon /early evening. I have quite a few more new and old loves to test/retest but I see my bottles are getting neglected so I think this may be the best plan.

  13. Oooo-la-la! Guess who just received a MMPP? (Mrs. Marzipan Perfume Package, if you must know) Yessss! Me. And guess who is oozing gorgeousness? Why yes! That would be me again! And what might I be wearing that smells so incredible?
60’s!!! Vintage 60’s Shalimar EdC! It’s absolutely perfect. Sooo stunning. I have two vintages of the perfume. A late 70’s and an early 80’s. And this EdC is richer, deeper and fuller than the perfumes. Who would have thunk it? It’s aged superbly well and I’m beyond excited to have it in my sticky little hands. It’s fabulous.

    • You and I have the fabulous and extraordinarily generous Kathleen to thank for that one. She is a gem for sure. I knew I had to get some of that 60s Shalimar to you once she sent it to me. I am saving mine to wear when I get together with my oldest childhood friend of 51 years because there is a story attached to that fragrance in vintage form.

Will probably go with Infusion D’Iris for breakfast at my favorite bread place and farmers market with eldest Marzipan who is visiting for the weekend.

  15. Well HELLO !!!! I have just spent 30 minutes reading this post. I am pleased to see there is still the usual banter happening, with a sprinkle of liquid being splashed and spritzed. As I write this , I have 56 days to find somewhere to lay my head which is a scary prospect. Perfume- wise I shouted myself a new bottle 4 weeks ago; Bvglari Man Wood Neroli. It is going to get a real workout in Spring/ Summer. It doesn’t hurt that the packaging is also stunning. I haven’t worn it to work ,as yet. I have been sticking to my go to ‘warm me ups’; Samsara, Jungle L’ Elephant and Soul. Speaking of Soul, Portia is that I by Costume National a new launch by that company? I ask that you cross your fingers/ toes, pray to whatever deity /just hope I have some luck this week. I miss you all.

  16. Well I’m super late detailing my perfumes adventures. Yesterday I wore my custom blend (are you all jealous. I hope so). Made The House of Marzipan. It’s absolutely unique and wears beautifully. Bergamot, jasmine, rose, carnation, benzoin, vanilla and animalics. The latter I can’t detect. Probably Salome’s fault.
Last night I tried 1960’s Emeraude PdT. Stunning. And 100% perfectly preserved which blew me away. Not a note out of tune. And to think this was considered a “cheapie” drugstore fragrance 😱
And the hits keep on coming. Today was A Grand Affair by Blocki. And omg, I love it. There’s no doubt about it. Mrs. Marzipan knows what I like. Many thanks Mrs. M via Kathleen via I don’t know who else.
