Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 30.9 – 6.10.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

    • Noontide Petals is less challenging than many other Tauer perfumes, but still more interesting than several Tauerville scents. I’ve been rhrough multiple samples.

      • Your choice today was much more exciting than mine, I’ll wager. I’m so annoyed with myself that I missed out on that one. I dawdled too long and when I went back to buy it, it was sold out. But no matter, I have others👍🏼

        • I will put a sample of the decant to the side for you so you can try it. We need to work on that Stateside mule.
          Also, I am testing out Lyons Gold Blend tea and find it to be even more robust than Barry’s. Highly recommend 😀

          • Haha, I’m sticking with Barry’s. Though Lyons is good too. There’s a Bewley’s blend that I love. I’ll buy some for you when your colleague comes over next. I’ll have to send you some Tayto cheese & onion crisps as well. Get you hooked on those😂

            • I am going to ask her about both! She has a market she goes to that sells all Irish stuff. Last year she bought me Irish oatmeal and Barry’s tea. Then she didn’t have to carry it home in her suitcase 😂😎

            • I found the Bewleys and Tatos online!!!!! I am going to get them next time Mr. Marzipan does an amazon order. You get the Bewley’s Irish blend, correct? That is the one that is served in the restaurant they say. I would imagine it is potent just the way I like it.

              • Either the Gold or Irish breakfast blend. Both good. And strong 💪🏻 Can you really get that on Amazon there, plus Tayto? Don’t spend crazy money on it, I’ll gladly send some in the post! My pleasure.

  7. TF Vanilla Fatale, cuz that is what the girls chose to give me last night. Love it. Birthday party-ing all over for another year. But…..there’s still one piece of cake sitting in the fridge for the lucky eagle-eyed forager. I tucked it behind some large yoghurt containers. I suppose you could say I ‘hid’ it 😌. Since Mr. LH can only find things that are at eye level, in the front row and directly within his line of vision, I’m guessing the lucky forager will be me 💃🏻🎂

  8. I am wearing vintage z-14.

    I got to try relatively older version of Cashmere Mist for the first time few days and it is actually not that bad. I had been wanting to try it for a long time because it was probably the only original Karan releases I had not tried. It seems Cashmere Mist has been the greatest commercial success among original men and women releases and unless I am wrong, the only one to have never been discontinued among the original men and women releases from Donna Karan.

  9. Rozy extrait today. I didn’t do the top three question – there’s a disconnect between what I’ve tried and want and what I enjoy using. I do love to dab – spraying is just difficult for me to control. Despite my deep desire for Dilettante and others, I’m seriously considering not buying sprays any more.

    Any one else buy with preferred medium in mind?

    • I agree that spraying can be difficult to control. With super powerhouses like St Clair Scents Casablanca, Eve and Pandora I kind of wish they came in dabber format as an option. I know years ago Sonoma Scent Studio used to offer 15 ml dabber bottles because they were also perfume concentrates.

      • I have Carnal Flower. Love it, but you have to be careful, otherwise a careless spray means you could be sharing it with thousands!

  10. Nothing today because dentist. I tend to avoid wearing fragrances if I’m going to get up close with people, just in case. Yesterday was Guerlain’s L’Homme Ideal Cologne. Still enjoying this; probably the best $20 I’ve spent this year.

  11. Wow what a huge couple of days I’ve had!!!! Yesterday, Monday I nearly cried the whole 24 hours. I got the keys to my new house. I could barely remember anything about it because I applied for it such a long time ago!!! Anyway I am happy to report that is neutral in colour scheme. Back garden is non existent though, and my calves will get a good workout every time I want to enter or exit the house because of a steep incline that only mountain goats could muster easily. I wore Samsara.
    Today, Tuesday, it was a glorious sunshiney day, physically and figuratively. I wore a sample of Dylan Blue. A work friend helped me take a few things to my house. And only an hour ago another friend visited me. Christine is her name. Not long after the cheater left, I packed up all my ” babies ” / perfumes because I had had bad dreams. Christine has had them under lock and key at her home…..And now they are back in my possession. Heading off to shower and I have chosen to apply Petit et Mammas.

  13. Sonoma Scent Studies Amber Incense and Incence Pure. Both cozy and beautiful, and have that ambery-benzoin note that I love so much. Third day wearing these! I’m applying from a dabber sample vial on wrists, and it lasts for hours!

        Extraits, no wonder they are so long lasting. Will the new owner of SSS have these perfumes, or will they all be new creations?

  17. In Kenzo Amour Florale. I have been trying to finish this full bottle for the last couple of weeks, but the atomizer tube barely reaches the almost 5ml left in the bottle. I am hardly getting very few mists from it. I will have to thunk the bottle with the rest of the juice, since I I will not be able to get more from it. Such a shame! 😔

    • How does it compare to the original Amour or Amour Indian Holi? don’t thunk it. When we meet I will see if I can figure out how to get it out. Sometimes if you take the top of the atomizer off and push the metal part against your hand the juice comes out. Give that a try first!!!!! before you decide to thunk.

      • They are not related at all. I don’t understand how Florale was called a flanker of the original Amour or Indian Holy, which are nice gourmands with a great vanilla and milky rice notes. Florale is a fresh floral scent with a neroli opening and mostly gardenia, frangipani and cedar as it develops. Very pretty and office friendly for spring/summer time, but not full bottle worthy in my opinion. My taste has changed a lot since I bought that full bottle.
        You keep the bottle when we meet. I don’t have the patience to work with it. It makes me very anxious! That way you can play with it at home, try the scent and I will finally achieve a big THUNK! 😉. Actually, let me have the pleasure now to say THUNK! 😂🤣

  18. Shakespeares ‘Lovers Complain’ for me today. But no complaining from me! This one is so close to a FB purchase. I think it’s the juniper berries that get me in this one. I want to say it’s a green scent, sharp yet syrupy, maybe pink pepper but description on City Perfume says leather, juniper berries, amber and tonka. Either way it’s a damm good one and lasts nearly all day.

  19. Pulled out my Ormonde Jayne travel set today and chose Champaca, mostly because I haven’t worn it in a while. Lovely sweet floral opening but a couple of hours in I can barely detect it. So not my favorite of the bunch. Had I spent more time with it before selecting my travel set I would have chosen a different perfume for that spot!

  22. I’m sniffing poo-poo pee pants. No. Not another one of my fetishes. A sample from Cassie, aka Miss Maturity. Who else 🙄. I suspect it’s Poo-poo-pee-doo, which frankly is just as infantile. This probably explains why I’ve always wanted to try it 😜. And darn it all! It’s really, really, really good! I’m gonna go see if I can find me a bottle. Before I click buy, maybe Cassie, yoo-hoo! can verify my guess!

  23. Sad to read that Robert Hermann has died. Last evening I was reunited with most of my perfume collection. It was such a joy this morning to have a quick gander, choosing a scent ,then placing them at my door for transportation to their new home

  26. Joining in on the Tauer week with my first ever try of L’Air DDM. Super good stuff. Nearly lasted all day. I have about two sprays left of my little sample. Very impressed. Nearly made a FB purchase – perhaps tomorrow.

      • It’s already on mine. I have been wearing it at night and will continue to do so. Hopefully there will be enough for Friday as my Tauer week ends with my absolute favorite of the bunch.

        • Was having a look on Andy’s site earlier and there have been changes to shipping. He can’t send to here anymore. Bum bum and bum again. He’s trying to find a way around this. Luckily some of his fumes are for sale in my fave perfumery here. Only a small selection though.

  28. Bvlgari Black. Love the hockey puck bottle. First time I tried it I thought it was so weird – rubber? Early on in my fragrance journey. Then I started smelling things in earnest and discovered that I really liked it.

  29. Zoologist Beaver for me today. So soft and pretty. Green and musky. Possibly too soft for me, sits pretty close. Will thunk my little sample and see how it goes through the rest of the day.

    • I have a big big day. Send food and coffee!!!! A huge vat of coffee. Today I am packing until 11am, then getting ready for work. A friend is picking me up because we need to do mandatory fire training, from 1 til 3pm. I get a nap until 4 then I begin my midnight shift. wearing a sample of Marshmallow and will take a decant of TRNP Bodhi to work.

    • I don’t think Maroc gets enough love. It’s actually one of my favorite Tauers. I have only the spray sample but it seems to last forever because I only need one spray for all day!

      • Two sprays pretty much lasted all day. Now I am in LDDM and heading to bed cause I have been up since three in the morning. I think not being able to breathe woke me up.🤧🤒

  33. Goutal Bois d’Hadrien today. I tried this in the store last summer in Paris and I really liked it; however I wish I had taken a sample home and lived with it. It quickly goes from citrus to soft woods and stays there, not super interesting. Fortunately I just have the 30 ml bottle and will probably make my way through it eventually, but it’s not a love.

    • I wore Mahora to work. I went to my new residence before work, , and waiting for me was a big box of Lemax Christmas decorations from my cousin , a letter from the water board, and a package of perfumes!!! I am amazed at the generosity, because I received a bottle of the latest 4711 I’m hitting the have very soon and I will wear some lavender oil.
