Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 21.10 – 27.10.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. I am wearing a vintage Gone with the Wind fragrance that there’s not much info out there on. But, my coworker is wearing so much patchouli oil that it is negated. I am coughing over here.

  2. Had early doc appointment followed by new driving licence appointment. I dragged out D & G Light Blue from the vault. Years since it got a whirl. Had a decent frost overnight with dips to -3, but it’s a beautiful sunny day with almost clear skies.

      • I’ve noticed that it’s not as popular everywhere in the last couple of years. I used to wear it a lot in warm weather before I took a break from it. It doesn’t get much love on blogs but I will continue to like it and happily wear it.

        • That’s one I used to like, but after using up half a bottle I got a skin irritation every time I applied it. Which goes to show it is hard to predict perfume allergies.

            • Hey Cassieflower,
That’s how a lot of allergies work. Your body gets a surfeit and starts to see the irritant as toxic, it can take years. That’s what all this IFRA malarky is about, people becoming increasingly affected after years of exposure. That’s why they are (ANNOYINGLY!) creating safe levels for usage.

              • Exactly right about allergies. I try use products with little perfume when it comes to shampoo, most body lotions, cleaning and laundry products, because I’m dreading the coctail effect of too many chemicals. At the same time I refuse to go without perfume and have found I may react to both light, modern compositions and the heavier traditional perfumes. So far I have not had many reactions to perfume, so haven’t found out which ingredients I may be sensitive to. Not sure the IFRA regulations will help more than they harm. Lavender EO is one of the things which can easily create a skin reaction on sensitive skin and at the same time we know it’s been used for hundreds of years. And the same with many other herbal ingredients.

  3. Have not applied perfume today, but will put on some Fendi Theorema before going to bed.
Apart for arranging for some wine and champagne to be sent to my cousin who defended his dissertation on Friday, it feels like I didn’t accomplish much. It’s not really true, but it’s impossible to keep up at work. People just forget I’m still on partial sick leave. No big problems, just limited time and resources challenging everyone.

      • Friends it is too early to roll out the red carpet!!! I am back at the sold house tonight because there is still cleaning to be done. I have found someone to take away the 3 beds and mattresses which is a great relief . I bought a washing machine today… another drama because the laundry is badly designed. Anyhoo with luck I will be able to go to work in freshly laundered clothing. Bed time now wearing a few sprays of TF Velvet Orchid.

  4. Cartier Must Pour Homme. I think it is more suited to warmer seasons. The box was giving me such good whiffs but it did not really blossom on my skin, probably due to cold weather. It does seem to have a prominent anise note. Will try it on a warmer day.

  5. Today is a good day, trying vintage Dioressence Parfum for the first time today as the package arrived yesterday. It is amazing. I got only 4ml or so though for a good price. Will def. be hunting for more of it whenever a good deal comes.

  6. End of year ballet exams for my students today, they did an awesome job! I wore an Aveda hair perfume with woody sandalwood notes, I really like it and it lasts all day.

  7. I wore 2 small sprays of Chanel Gardenia to work. Pretty exhausted after six intense hours at work, so returning home I applied my comfort scent SL Five o’clock au gingembre. The bottle is running low, even if I have started sort of hoarding what’s left (more than 10 ml at least). I don’t own back up bottles of any perfumes, unlike most of you.

  8. After my triumphant emptying of Bas de Soie, I feel like playing the field. Misia in the morning, Safran Troublant in the afternoon, and it will be anyone’s guess about the evening.

  9. Wednesday morning. I spent the last 2 nights at my new digs. In nearly every corner is an A’s yet I emptied box !!! Only 11 days until settlement . When I was unpacking a box last night I found a couple of smelly items I had forgotten about. A 4711 Bllod Orange and Thyme shower gel , a 4711 Lime and Nutmeg soap and finally a 10 ml bottle of Fleuer No 1 by 1000 flowers. I like it but I won’t miss it once it is empty.

  10. Musc Ravageur. Comfort dialed up to maximum. Wearing an ultra-soft, flowy, long-sleeved white t-shirt under an oversized black cashmere cardigan. Well-worn, faded Levi’s and my bare feet are nestled in the sheepskin of an old pair of Uggs. I’m taking comfort to the next level today 😉

  11. Hiram Green Shangri La. I forget how much sillage and longevity this has – I need to spray very lightly for work. It’s a beautiful chypre, though, so I’m enjoying it despite being a bit much at the moment. By late afternoon I’ll be happy that it’s still humming along.

  12. SL Iris Silver Mist sample. I am not a fan of SL but was very curious about this one and saw that it was created by Maurice Roucel. OMG incredible! Now to do my nails in my black nail polish Raven with one scarlet red nail and lots of Iris Silver Mist and I’m ready for the *season of the witch*.

  13. Home early and topped up with Musc Ravageur again. More bad news. First, no more Shangri La. Then, walking along the street where my office is, I noticed the restaurants and cafés had removed all the tables, chairs and umbrellas from outside 😱 Terrace season is over 😢. No more whiling away the evening hours with sippies and people watching. My favorite pastime is done and over until May. Crap!

  14. Inspired by a burst of hot weather and Saturdays question here on APJ, I’m doing my best to ‘thunk’ that bottle of Givenchy Ange ou Demon. Need to make room for my extra-ordinarily beautiful bottle of Shakespeare’s Lover’s Complain – thanks City Perfume for super fast delivery.

  15. Where does the week go? I’m very late to the party, so a quick catch-up will have to do.

I’ve been getting the spring fragrances out lately, but this week we barrelled into summer in just a matter of days. As I write, it’s 35C outside. Here’s what I’ve been wearing to deal with it:

    Monday: Hugh Parsons Hyde Park
    Tuesday: Punam Formidable Man
Wednesday: Penhaligon’s Juniper Sling (this is when the heat kicked in here)
Thursday: DS & Durga Italian Citrus – got to wear citrus when it’s this bloody hot.

  16. Well today is absolutely bonkers at work. All the crazies are out in force – and that’s just the staff😉 I’m wearing something suitably mad. Patchocolait, my own invention. Missoni topped off with Les Nérides Patchouli. It works. No, really, it does.

Anyhow, now dripping scent with an enthusiastic dousing of PG Coze.

    • hi all this will be the last post for a few days. Yesterday I spent trying to clean up the last of the house we have sold. I began the day in Olympic Orchids A Midsummer’s Day Dream sample which Portia sent me years ago,, which I found at the back of my make up drawer!!!!! It smelt lovely for about an hour, however afterwards all I could smell was Dust and Grime. I still cry myself to sleep. Anyway ,this morning I am at it again, in Dust and Grime ,but I’ve given myself good hefty squirts of 2 different fumes….SJP Covet and Lalique Voyage L’ Homme See ya all in a few days…..behave and smell good doing so.

  19. Found a neglected sample of Parfum Quartana Hemlock that I picked up at the Perfumology store last fall. Really like it. But I’m putting myself on a no-buy – reorganizing my closet has left me overwhelmed with the quantity of perfume I have at the moment and I just need to be using rather than acquiring. Hopefully some thunking in my future!

Was it really 35C two days ago? I wore 06130 Cedre for a bit of woodsy warmth. It’s a bit nicer today, and I’m wearing Philosykos.

  22. Finally collected my “vintage” blind buys from the post Office. One scent, Y edt was a true blind buy, I haven’t tried it before. I can date the 30 ml bottle to 1997 after a search online, and I am guessing it is very near in quality to what it was when new. I forgot to spray it several times before applying, so will have to wear it again tomorrow to see how much I like it. What came from the bottle after 7-8 sprays seemed fresher by far than the first couple of sprays, suddenly remembered Portia’s advice there!

Why I bought the three bottles was to get 30 ml Le Dix edt, and it didn’t disappoint! That dry floral scent of violets is so good. I haven’t been able to date the bottle, but somewhere between 1992 and 2005? It has the long list of contents which was mandatory at the latest from 2005. The last bottle is a miniature bottle/manufacturer’s sample of L’Air du Temps from 2005 and the top notes with aldehydes are not like I remember this perfume from the late 70s, but the bottle is cute! Generally, I think a lot of the lighter scents I have always liked will be among those which don’t age well, so I won’t hunt for vintage in general.

    • Le Dix was stunning from what I remember. I wore it in the 1980s and 1990s and was by far my favorite violet. The aldehydes usually don’t survive the passage of time which is why vintage never smells the same to me as what I remember having worn because the top notes always deteriorate.

The cupboard doors and tops of the cupboards get so greasy despite a state-of-the-art extraction hood. I’m convinced he chose that damn thing cuz of it’s looks and not because it actually works. Haha. Kind of like me 😂 Post labour I will be in a cloud of Shalimar perfume. And, we’ll have our first fire of the season and crack open a bottle of wine. It’s unspeakably dreary and wet outside.
