Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 11.11 – 17.11.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. After a chat with the Cookie Queen this morning I sprayed my Rose et Cuir sample. I’m loathe to use it up, it’s so good.
The geranium works so well with the IBQ. It’s almost effervescent.

  2. Chloe’s Love Story – sparkling citrus for a hot day and one of appointments for my elderly parents.
If only patience was a basenote.

  3. I haven’t picked out the 7 for this week yet, but am wearing one I didn’t get to last week: Costume National Homme. Maybe not the best thing for a 30C+ day.

I mentioned in the last tread that I was going to wear something additional to Chanel PH on Sunday night for a blues jam session. I went with Lonestar Memories. It must have worked, because I had an awesome time. If you’re on my FB feed you can see some photos.

      • I’m surprised that people think it’s that unusual. I just grab a fistful out of my tubs and put them somewhere handy. I am taking a little bit of a risk on the weather sometimes, like with this one.

  4. In Chanel #19 Poudre. Beautiful, warmish, sunny day outside. Still dealing with so many sad and stressful personal stuff, but trying my best to get back to normal little by little.
    Happy Monday everyone!

  5. MEMO Lalibela. It’s one of the few fragrances that make me want to keep sniffing myself. And to think it started out as a *meh*.

  6. Haven’t worn much of anything in recent days but did find the new formulation of Yardley English Lavender soothing and not challenging. It’s more of a floral than a lavender soliflore ( as was the original) but it hums along in the background and was exactly what I needed.
Today was a holiday so my mom came to visit and took me shopping. While in Marshall’s she sprayed me with Elizabeth Arden Green Tea and it smelled so good on me that she bought me the 100 ml bottle. For $14 it’s just about free. I may wear it for a while so that I don’t have to think about what I am wearing. She also bought several really wonderful smelling soaps for the whole family. I am amazed at the inexpensive treasures to be found in Marshall’s.

  7. My day didn’t go to plan.I didn’t spray any perfume until I visited my friend. I had a spray of The Merchant of Venice but I can’t remember which one she had. Typical !! Anyway it was very nice.

  8. Ok a couple of things. The investment property looks like being sold. I am quite disgruntled because the price is too low . However better it is not hanging around my neck. The baby arrived and I nearly collapsed when I found out! So distressing. Anyway I promised you a story about Scotch ! So here goes; Amongst my stash of alcohol is a box of 15 year old Dimple Scotch . Recently I got the bottle out of the box curious to know how much was left. Imagine how gobsmacked with joy I was/ am to find it is FULL !!!! Happy times ahead . Also tomorrow I will write my Special Ten again because I don’t think many of you saw it. Wearing Cabochard this morning.

  9. Not a good day since both perfumes were strong and overwhelmed my nose with just two sprays each (I layered them though spraying next to each other instead of over each other), one is Ferragamo Pour Homme and the other is Patou Ma Liberte edp.

  10. Yesterday I did some mixing – L’Art Vanille and Al Oudh. Worked well together. Today was Fort & Manle Maduro. Reminded me of Nest’s Midnight Fleur. Lots of pineapple. Didn’t last though.

  12. Kate Spade’s Truly Dazzling from a very cute sample set. Fresh, aquatic, and I’m waiting for the salt to hit. I’m always on the hunt for the perfect beach scent. Looking for lots of warm skin and salt with a touch of sunscreen.

  13. I’m wearing Musc Ravageur for all the right reasons. For comfort, security and gorgeousness.
We had 20cm of snow dumped on us last night. Not the wet stuff that melts right away either. It’s the crap that smirks at you and taunts you “I’ll still be here in May”. It’s -13C. Have I mentioned how much I despise winter? Here’s the problem. Hardly anyone has their winter tires on yet, me included. My appointment is on Friday. Yesterday and this morning cars were lined up in front of garages and tire centres at 5:00 am. It was impossible to get in. So…..I let Mr. LH install my winter tires last night. Now I’m half expecting them to go spinning off in all directions as soon as I hit the highway to go across the city. I’ve got a lot of sample choosing to complete for my third project and the deadline for delivery of the final design package is quickly approaching. I told my assistant to stay home as she didn’t have her tires on yet either. She drives in from one of the suburbs and it’s just too dangerous. The radio tells me that very few roads have been plowed yet 🙄. Shaping up to be a really shi$$y day folks. Hope your day is better!

    • Hi Marcella, you smell amazing. Love MR. it’s a funny ol place we live in. While you are being swamped by snow and needing winter tires, this side of the world we are desperate for rain as bushfires ravage our friends on the east coast and we hear summer is going to be brutal. If you could arrange a truckload or more of your winter and send here, I’ll package up some heat and send over 🤣. Take care driving xx

      • Tell ya what, Melanie, I’ll send all this winter’s rain over to your east coast. Have seen the fires and it’s ferocious. Heartbreaking for the loss of wildlife, and the idea of the poor people who perished is just horrific. The weather isn’t favourable for any relief either.

      • Thank you Melanie. MR is da bomb. You are more than welcome to all the snow you want. We get loads of it. You might ask Cassieflower for some of her constant rain for those fires. I hope they’re getting them under control. It looks awful and it must be scary.

    • Aw Jeez, I couldn’t cope. And I’d be a danger on the roads as well. Last time we had decent snow I slalomed my way into work. And not on skis😬🥶
I might not be so bad on winter tyres though.

  14. Finally caught up with all the comments! Late today, was busy again. It was horribly cold this morning so I warmed the air around me with some Teint de Neige.

  15. Now we are back to cooler weather; this is doing my head in. I won’t complain though, as I’m sure that people in NSW and Qld have it far worse. I hope anybody up that way is safe.

Yesterday I wore Lagerfeld Classic. I found this in a market years ago, but I broke the top of the bottle and put it away. Time to bring it out again. It is pretty much spot-on for a cooler day, with a mild tobacco and amber profile. Today I’ve got Floris Elite on so that I am feeling classy as I kick off my Christmas shopping.

I sampled the new Arielle Shoshana Sunday last night. Very unusual and interesting scent. I didn’t get any matcha tea, but the rice note is pretty strong on me. It is nice and cozy. I need to try it again in the next couple of days. I might consider a decant in the future.

  18. Volutes EdP for the hairdresser. The whole shebang, cut and hilites for the upcoming party season. Not looking forward to three hours of fidgeting with a side order of boredom.
I survived yesterday’s version of bumper cars out on the roads, but if I had a dollar for every accident I saw I’d be the proud owner of the entire set of Chanel’s Exclusifs in the largest size!

  21. l’Heure Bleue, my own (unknown age and concentrtion) and Portia’s (it’s PDT, right?): I’m trying to convince myself that I don’t need that vintage EDT I’ve been eyeing since last week, but it doesn’t work (why would it?)

  22. Acqua di P Colonia Ambra for me today – a little sample that I don’t think will project much at all. Smells great when applying. Let’s see how it handles the office. Will take a little something for the afternoon- Montale Full incense might be fun.

  23. Like Diana, I’m wearing L’Heure Bleue EDP today. It’s a bit too floral for me, so I hardly ever wear it. That’s why it qualifies for my new approach of digging stuff out that I haven’t worn for ages.

As I said, I find this too girly, and my wife complained about it too, so there’s no point hanging on to it. It’s a 75ml bottle with around 5-10% left. Not a lot, but enough for a few wears. Happy to let one of you have it if you cover shipping.

  24. I forgot that I have a bottle of A Different Company Bois et Sens ( thanks to Tara C). I usually have a hard time smelling it but since I am craving lighter scents I may try it this morning. Then once I get to work more lashings of Green Tea which is becoming a comfort and happy scent for me. These days I need all the comfort that I can get .
