Hey there APJ Crew,

WOW! Big week of fragrance, friends, theatre, adventure, food and fun.
I am done in. So much happened this week.

Scent Diary: 11.11- 17.11.2019

Monday 11:

Ok, I didn’t go to Aquarobics this morning. Alarm went off and I had a conversation with myself that went along the lines of, “F*ck this for a game of malarky!” Promptly rolled over and went back to sleep till 11am. NAUGHTY!

Got up,  Fed & walked the dogs in the amazing sunshine. So beautiful.

SOTMorning: Vol de Nuit vintage extrait by Guerlain. It’s been a while since I had one of these spritzes out and I am checking a new purchase against older, verified ones for good measure. SO freaking gorgeous in this heat.

The house is practically spotless seeing we had guests yesterday and I vacuumed again after they left. YAY!

I’ve done 5 loads of clothes washing by 5pm. The earliest already folded & put away.

Watched Riddick on Netflix. I enjoyed it but am bummed it’s the end of the series. Will check the others soon.

Started on TRIVIA Q&A but been distracted. Hanging out on the blogs reading and commenting instead of putting my head down. NAUGHTY!

Jin came home and we had Anniversary Dinner together. It was yum. I did the salad and Jin brought home Korean Fried Chicken. Then we watched a couple of episodes of Modern Family.

Writing Trivia Q&A with a big squirt or four of Le Bain by JOOP!
Imagine a cross between Mona di Orio Eau Absolutions, Caron Pour Une Homme and LouLou by Cacharel. There you have it.

Jin went to bed so I trotted in and we chatted for a while, till I fell asleep. He woke me very gently to go back and finish my TRIVIA Q&A.

It’s nearly 3am. TRIVIA Q&A done & dusted.

My arms still smell of Vol de Nuit and my chest is pumping Le Bain but I want MORE PERFUME.

SOTBed: Elle L’Aime by Lolita Lempicka. This is the creamiest summer spritz of them all. Happinesss bottled and going for NOTHING at the discounters.

Tuesday 12:

Fell asleep on the couch. Interestingly the fragrance I can smell most on my body is still yesterday mornings Vol de Nuit. The others are mere rumblings of scent.

SOTMorning: L’Eau Bleue d’Issey Pour Homme. Perfect citrus aquatic for this weather. We are expecting 38C today (100F).

Issey Miyake L'Eau Bleue d'Issey Pour Homme

We have a Catastrophic Fire Warning over the whole Sydney basin. Loads of the East Coast of Australia is already burning. The government cut our National Fire Brigade Funding by nearly $200m, resulting in too few Fire Fighters to monitor Controlled Burning throughout winter. That’s $40.5 million in NSW alone. We now have an overload of tinder dry eucalyptus scrubland after nearly 3 years of drought. It’s a Powder Keg.

Jin and I had leftovers for brunch. I love shopping the fridge when it’s fully stocked with tasty treats.

He went to bed around 1pm. Working tonight.

BATHTIME!

SOTEvening: Silences PdT by Jacomo

Watched Pitch Black the first of The Chronicle Of Riddick. LOVED it.

Getting GORGEOUS!

SOTWork: Marion Nous by Oriza L Legrand. Only four (maybe 5) spritzes and I was BIG FRAGRANCE. WOW! The drive to work was outrageous, and in 30C+ heat. Fortunately it burned down to a dull roar pithing 20 minutes of arriving. Got three unsolicited compliments about it. Must be nice. I think it is too.

Home! Washed my face off, fede & walked dogs, did my computer stuff.

Going to see if I can find more Vin Diesel to watch.

Wednesday 13:

Aquarobics

Met Anna Maria at a cafe and we got going immediately.

Visited my mate Bronwyn, owner of Gascoigne & King candles and ambient scenting. She is also Australia’s importer of Etat Libre d’Orange. I bought a bunch of Christmas gifting candles and she has given us a very special bottle to do a GIVEAWAY Split of. YAY! We hung out with Bronwyn and her Mum Froggie for an hour or so while they were making candles for orders.. Really nice catch up.

SOTDay: I Am Trash by Etat Libre d’Orange. Terrible name, terrific scent.

We then headed down to the Sydney Opera House. I had bought Jin and myself tickets to see the newly recreated ballet Sylvia. It’s been done as a collaboration between the Australian Ballet and the Houston USA Ballet. First up we went to a talk by the Music Director and Chief Conductor of The Australian Ballet, Nicolette Fraillon. It was so interesting. The history of the ballet and its music, Tchaikovsky’s thoughts and how many people studied and copied it.

Then we saw the ballet. Worst seats in the house, got them for $45 each. I had a partial view of the stage, Anna Maria saw most of it. Didn’t matter. The music is sublime, especially after having been given a lecture on so much of it. Heaven.

Home quickly. As I was driving up our street to get home I saw Jin’s car going in the opposite direction off to work. BUMMER! We chatted quickly on the phone but it’s not the same as a hug.

SOTEvening: CHANEL Boy

WORK. It was super fun. My fave crew were in, including this handsome red stallion Tim.

Watched Power Rangers on Netflix

SOTBed: Shalimar vintage extrait by Guerlain

Thursday 14:

Woke late, walked dogs.

SOTDay: Ormonde Woman by Ormonde Jayne

Lunch with my girlfriends April and Julie at Fairfield RSL. This is becoming a monthly catch up and I love it. The girls are so beautiful, chatty and full of fun stories. Food was excellent too.

Jin and I hung out and lazed around the house for the rest of the day.

We had leftovers for dinner.

SOTBed: Le Temps d’Une Fete by Parfums de Nicolai

Friday 15:

Up and at em.

SOTMorning: 24 Faubourg by Hermès. Today is unbelievably gorgeous. The white flowers and spices are a perfect match with how lovely the world seems right now.

Off to brunch with my girlfriend Linda. We had Eggs Benedict with Bacon. Linda has never had it and she was so happy. I think she is now ruined for all other breakfasts. Here we are looking like an old couple on their retirement cruise second honeymoon.

Did most of my International Christmas Cards today. I love sitting down and getting them ready. First lot posted. There was a package at the Post Office for our BFF Alice. It’s her birthday next week and I ordered her 45 biscuits with Alice 45 on them in her favourite colour icing, AQUA! I can’t wait till her birthday to give them to her. Also, posted Val the Cookie Queen’s birthday package! It’s a big one this year.

Jin went out to his work Xmas Party. I stayed home and watched TV. PERFECT night.

Had a midnight bubble bath in L’Artisan Premier Figuier

Saturday 16:

Woke at sparrows fart. Fed & walked the dogs.

SOTDay: I Am Trash by Etat Libre d’Orange

Jumped on a bus and train to Newtown.

Walked to Sage Cafe in Enmore and met Hyun and Michael there for brunch. Michael paid! WOO HOO! What a gent.

Millenia met us there and then we wandered up to King St and had coffees. Our chatter centred around becoming Drag Queen Celebrants! It looks like it might be our next big adventure.

Then I walked to the bottom of King St, met Phil at his place and we walked all the way to the very top and beyond of King St, the Seymore Centre. It was their 2020 theatre program launch. Phil had a couple of tickets to go and we heard the creative director speak, a couple of the playwrights and directors gave us some insights into their pieces and then we had a musical interlude from another show. On the way out we were all given Postcards. Mine had three dots on it which meant I’d won free tickets to every event in 2020. SHIT! I gave it to Phil, it seemed unfair that I should win at an event he took me to. He is OVER THE MOON! You have no idea how freaking excited he is. It made me really happy to see him so jubilant. HA! He’s the best, I’m so happy he’s one of my BFFs.

After that he took me to dinner at one of Sydney;’s most famous Thai restaurants. It was utterly delicious and we nattered on about everything and nothing for hours.

Back on the train and a bus and home to Jin who had lain on the couch all day recovering from his hugely boozy night out last night.

I got home, we chattered for a while and then he went to bed.

SOTBed: Nirmal by Laboratorio Olfactivo. It’s cooled down considerably here tonight. I wanted something warming.

Sunday 17:

Woke, wandered the cool and cloudy morning with the dogs. Beautiful outside.

Jumped in the bath.

SOTMorning: Eau Absolu by Mona di Orio

Scott picked me up. We parked in Newtown and trained it to town. First thing we got was PINK LIDDED Coffees.

First we hit GentSac

Then Harrold’s in Westfield

Scott wanted to smell Panthere Noir so we dropped by Cartier

Then we wandered to Mecca. I bought the Diptyque Candle Christmas Carousel. It’s heaven.

We met up with the Aussie Fragrance Network crew from FaceBook for a sniffy. It was totally fun. So many great people, fragrances and chatter. LOVED IT!

Home, Quick refresh. and off to work. It’s my mate Rita’s last night before going on a Med Cruise and holiday. SO GLAM!

Home. Dogs walked and fed. Pics uploaded to this post and now going to hang out with Jin on the couch.

  1. So I am, envious of that gorgeous everlasting vintage Vol de Nuit extrait! How did Cartier Panthere Noir smell?
I’m sorry to hear of the fires burning on the East Coast of AU and the warnings for Sydney basin. This summer was not as dry and Colorado didn’t have fire issues; however, last summer was terrible a lot of forest burned.
I am on a mission to wear more of my fragrances. One of the commenters, I think Greg, shared his idea of choosing 7 fragrances per week and wearing each daily. I am doing this and pulling out favorites. This week I wore Dior Hypnotic Poison, MFK Baccarat Rouge, Chanel No 5, Chanel Gabrielle, Arpege, Guerlain Meteorites, and Lancome Climat.

    • Hey Kathleen,
Vintage Vol de Nuit extrait is well worth the search, dollars and fake let downs to find the real deal.
HA! I forgot to even sniff the Cartier, that was Scott’s thing.
Such a cool idea from Greg, glad you’ve picked it up. Very cool selection for the week. Does Undina know you’re a climate fan?

  2. What an amazing week you have had, P!!
And I love that you went to the ballet 💜💙

I worked six days due to training yesterday. I started going to yoga again now that my teacher of 11+ years got a gig at an indoor cycling school.

Perfume wise I am keeping it really simple. Pretty much wore Green Tea the whole week. Yesterday and today my decant of Amber Absolute. I will follow everyone else’s lead and stick to a few fragrances . I have upstairs English Lavender and now Noa( so pretty and easy to wear) and Green Tea at work. I will try to sample new treasures on the weekends.

    • Hey Brigitte,
      Good to see you.
Yeah, the ballet is always fun. Such glamour.
YAY for yoga. I love doing it but never go.
Green Tea is very satisfying. A perfect refresher and swapping it out for Amber Absolute! Both so incredibly different. Must be quite a happy culture shock.

  3. It was a pretty quiet week here, hanging out mostly at home and trying to work through a massive pile of samples. Lots of good dog walks and trips to the beach. So sorry to hear about the terrible fires, I read on FB that lots of wildlife, particularly koalas, have been decimated. Very very sad.

PSA: I tried the new Douleur by Bogue and it was the most vile, revolting thing I have ever smelt. You have been warned.

    • Hey TaraC,
Any samples that took your fancy?
Yeah, the Australian bush can go up so fast with all the eucalyptus. The animals have no chance.
WOW! I loved Douleur. Hyun wore it on Saturday to brunch. Just half a spray and she was wafting the most fabulous minty eucalyptus roses with undertones of feral amber. What a bummer you didn’t love it.

  5. The headlines here on Tuesday and Wednesday were such a contrast, Icy roads alert from the police after some freak accidents and then the Australian fires. The chaos at the start of winter is about the same every year, nothing as scary as those fires. Some of the problem here is the foreign trailers not prepared for winter, they regularly create dangerous situations

Not a particularly good week for me, too much job stress and then trouble with transportation after a work out on Wednesday sent me to bed more or less for two days. I’ve picked up Pamplelune and Mandarine Basilic to cope better, haven’t used them for a long time and they are easy to wear.

Ballet, one of the art forms I really enjoy. I end up not going more often than once or twice a year, should try to remedy that. Our opera house also has a few bad seats, some of them are easy to spot, others just have less room for your legs than you would expect.

I’ve written my wishlist for Christmas, and dropped a very heavy hint about a miniature of the new Tauer (Les Années 25 Bis). Andy still ships to Austria, so I could get it at New Year when my stepaunt comes to visit, fingers crossed. .

      • I am not too sure, the new one perhaps with more fruit? I never tried the first one, but often like modern twists on the classic French perfume style so think this one is worth a blind buy in the cute miniature bottle.

        • Thank you for responding! I have the Annees 25 from last year. If this year Bis version is similar with more fruit, I think you will enjoy the miniature bottle. I may like a mini of the Bis as well, if it differs from last year bottle.

  6. Oh! I finally bought that Diptyque candle carousel, just a few weeks ago! Isn’t it delightful?! Every year I think I’ll buy one…and every year, they sell out too quickly. It’s the first time I’ve ever bought a Christmas-related item in October, but this was a special case. Oh, and the red Diptyque holiday candle to go with it!

  7. The fire situation in Australia is deeply alarming. Add to it the catastrophic fire in the Amazon and in California this year and you’d need to be living under a rock not to wonder wtf is happening with the climate.
It sounds like you had your usual happy mix of being beautifully scented and hanging out with friends. Glad to hear you’re still hitting the pool from time to time.
When I was at the gym yesterday, I was standing behind an older guy (probably around my age, tbh) 🙄 and he smelled fabulous! I complimented him on his fragrance, and, of course, asked him what it was. He said Polo. Oooo, which one, I asked. He replied he didn’t know cuz he wife bought it for him. It was most certainly something I would wear. A tad powdery, definitely smelled cinnamon. It was a warm scent and perfect for the winter. Certainly not one of the ‘sport’ ones. No citrus, no aquatic notes either. Any idea on what it may have been? I’ve looked up some of the Polos and thought it might be one of the black bottle ones. One of them is Oud something-or-another. It shows cinnamon as a fairly prominent note. However, I certainly did not smell oud in it, at least no version that I might recognize. If anyone has any ideas, please chime in.
