Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 18.11 – 24.11.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. L’Artisan Traversee du Bosphore. I just swapped a few neglected things for some decants and this was one of my choices. Previously only had a tiny sample so I’m enjoying it sprayed to full effect.

  2. I’ve tried Shslimar, smelt gorgeous on others but just smelt not so nice on me. Grand Soir has really grown on me, considering I wasn’t really sure of it at first. I love reading about all the lovely scents you guys are wearing, then I go look them all up!

  3. Tuesday morning 3 AM!!! Insomnia has come to visit me ! Yesterday I went out to lunch to celebrate a friend’s birthday. It was a perfect Spring day 23 C with a gentle breeze. I am getting some of my divorce money this week . Have a productive Tuesday .

  4. I’m in Guerlain AA Mandarine Basilic. I wonder how long this bottle will last, not a lot left, but then the bottle must be 8 years old or more.

  6. Tried one little spritz of Smell Bent or Bust. It petered out by lunchtime, so maybe I will increase by a spritz per day until there are complaints.

  7. Monday, Monday (bah-da bah-da-da-da) I wore Eau de Rochas Homme. Tis is an absolute lemon bomb, but you need to spray a fair bit. It is a genine cheapie though, so I don’t mind that.

Today I wore L’Artisan’s Eau de Vetiver Sacre. One of the many vetivers I have; I quite like the tea note in this.

I had some great good luck vintage hunting today. Partial bottles of 1960s-era Diorissimo (in box) and 1950s-era R&G Farina Cologne (a one litre bottle!)

After shower will head down to the basement to search for my sample of L’atessa which I will wear in honor of a great friend’s bday today because it’s her favorite scent.
Then at work will spray myself with Noa.
I am working on this bottle. When it’s down to 1/4 full I will send it off to another friend whose grandniece likes pretty bottles. I think she would enjoy the Pearl in the Noa bottle.

    • Snow????🌨❄☃️. Just rain here!
You smell fantastic! I thought about wearing Chanel 28 La Pausa or L’Atessa today. But I will have a hectic day and I didn’t want to have any possible associations with my 2 favorites irises.

    • L’Attesa is one of my favorite iris perfumes and I think the only or one of few good masque releases though I do give credit to masque for not following trends and come up with daring releases. My fav. iris. of course, is original batches of Dior Homme. I don’t think it is possible to top Dior Homme as an iris perfume in my book. Lot of iris perfumes have disappointed me so l’attesa was quite a surprise as an iris perfume. It really comes across as a creation for which the brand owners went for a generous budget.

        • I don’t want to get your hopes too high because I am afraid too high hopes sometimes lead to disappointments 😦 Dior Homme and L’Attesa are not similar but both do employ iris really well. Attesa is more full-bodied iris creation while Dior Homme creates that marvelous lipstick effect by expertly pairing iris with other notes like lavender. And it’s funny I am not that huge fan of lavender notes when lavender is too prominent but I can see how lavender plays an important role in original Dior Homme. Also only try Dior Homme if you get to smell one of the original versions because the bottle I smelled at Sephora last year horrified me. Dior Homme has been ruined now.

  10. Chanel Allure vintage edp that came today. I have had allure homme for more than a decade but never tried female version as it never achieved the cult status of other chanel women perfumes and apparently karl lagerfeld also hated it. I had read it has some similarlity to dior dune and I feel some may get and some don’t. I don’t get it unless I really force myself to. Judging on their merits, I think Dune is much better if some see allure and dune as rivals. However, it does seem to project and long quite reasonable, one of the benefits of vintage compositions. Overall, I must say I am not that impressed with Allure edp and I think it makes sense why it has not achieved the status of other Chanel feminine releases.

  11. It’s a beautiful day here and so I went for something that I feel is quite springlike- Atelier Iris Rebelle. Anyone for carrots 🥕 🥕?

    Like

        • Have you ever tried Honore des Pres I love Les Carottes? More carroty than that either carrot seed oil or a real carrot. I wish it were sold here in the States. Unfortunately, it can be found only in Europe.

          Like

          • Jumping in here. That perfume used to be on sale here (I think because the brand is marketed as “green”), but it didn’t last well on my skin. Mostly that carrot note is not for me anyway, and at the same time iris perfumes must not be too powdery or cold, so no blind buys of iris perfumes for me!

            Like

        • I cannot do carrots. Not at all. Iris Silver Mist, such an iconic scent must be removed from my skin within 20 minutes. I tried, but I don’t ‘get’ it. Furthermore I don’t want my perfume to smell like celery, onions or Brussels sprouts either. A good dose of cumin? Now you’re talking.

          Like

          • We’re polar opposites on those two notes. Iris, oh yeah, gimme lots of it. Cumin, otoh, I can just barely tolerate in minute amounts. Did you try the Theo Fennell Scent sample? Pure dirty sweaty stuff. I gave it a fair go but no dice. I would donate that bottle to a good home if I thought it would make it through the postal police, Special Branch, Armed Response Unit, Sniffer Dogs, and any other agency employed to deter idiots like us from sending prohibited contraband through the post🙄

            Like

            • Oh Gawd yes! The Theo Fennel Scent! Iforgot to mention it. I absolutely loved it. That was drained some time ago. I poked around on eBay, but it looks like it’s discontinued. Natch. There are a couple of iris I really liked. In particular Iris Fauve, Atelier d’Or. it was warm and spicy and the drydown was magnificent. No carrot. No root veggies.

  14. Home early and spoiling myself with Musc Ravageur and a hot whiskey. Double whammy crap day. I had my flu shot this morning and I can barely raise my arm. I’ve never experienced this before. I think the nurse thought he was playing in a darts tournament. Jeez! We’ve had freezing rain here since the middle of the night, most of the roads are tricky but the sidewalks are horrendous. I must have seen half a dozen people hit the pavement. Time to switch from our boots to ⛸. I’m already fed up with winter.

  15. Funny story, well I think so anyway, on my out and about social circuit on Sunday night I got talking to a girl I sort of know. She’s a friend of a friend. Anyway, the subject came up of houses, she’s looking to buy. She’s got three boys and wants a big garden. Hellooo, I know someone who wants to sell a house with a large garden. A good sized family home. Lots of room. She texted me earlier to say she’s gonna come and have a look at it. Fingers crossed that it might be what she’s looking for. Of course, it may not but wouldn’t it be funny if it worked out. No agent fees of thousands of €€€.

  16. Very hot day today. I wore CDG Energy C Lime. It’s very hard to find a good lime fragrance for the hot weather that doesn’t burn off in a flash. This is 5e one for me.

Tomorrow is going to be absolutely stinking hot and a red alert has been issued for our part of the state, which means evacuate immediately if there is any sign of a fire. We have made plans to head to Melbourne if that comes. Saffy, and anyone else who might be in harm’s way, stay safe.

      • Than you, my friend! You have created a big lemming! I have had 3 compliments today! 😍. I spent some time online looking for full bottles! Well…. you know….later. I love that it has a great longevity and sillage compared to other JM colognes. I guess that was the purpose of the Intense line.

        • Ooo it’s always so nice getting compliments on our fragrances! Yes, some of the intense Jo Malone have excellent longevity.
The soaps are nice too as the fragrance lingers on the skin.

  21. We left the house and headed for the CBD yesterday. We are also in suburbia, but not in a good spot; there is a State forest over the road and a huge petrol station just down the road. The house could not be defended in the case of a fire, especially with Beth’s mobility problem (recovering from ankle surgery) so our plan was to leave the house with bags packed, given the Code Red. Fortunately it wasn’t an issue, although there were a couple of spot fires within a few streets of us.

For the record, I was wearing AdP Colonia Assoluta. 🙂

Today I’ve got Penhaligon’s Extract of Limes on. This is an example of the lime fragrances I referred to earlier, which just burn off really quickly.

It’ll keep me out of the house which is a good thing. Mr. LH has decided it’s time to paint the kitchen. I despise having my domain mucked up. My migraine returned during my shift I am so glad to be lying in bed I have only used a scoop of Avon Goddess body lotion

      • Hi saffy. Yes, my wife still has ankle issues from that fall. She’s had to have another operation to take the screws and plates out because they were causing problems, so she’s back to recuperation, although not as serious as last time.

  27. Something different today. I’m wearing R&G JP Farina EDC that is at least as old as I am. Considering its age, it’s in surprisingly good shape. The colour is still looking bright and it doesn’t smell at all plonky. I got a bit of a citrusy opening when I put it on. A few hours later it’s lost a lot, but is still detectable close to the skin as a bit of a powdery floral. Mind you, I wouldn’t expect much better performance from the modern formulation, other than stronger citrus notes in the opening.

  28. I’m ashamed to say it, but this is one I haven’t even taken out of hiding for years and years. Dior Addict. Dark and rich and smells bloody fabulous. What was I even thinking when I put this in the hidey hole? It’s not going back in there. This is the original batch, I’m almost certain. Beats the pants, and more, off modern Diors. Even some of the crazy priced line.

So … sacrifices had to be made. Monday Monday here today!!! And I am getting a hairdo . I ‘m thinking I might go on the red spectrum for a change. The temp will be a happy 25 . I am spritzing Soul .
