Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 2.12 – 8.12.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

    • I really enjoy rose scents, but they’ve always tended to be plain rose. Haven’t been the most adventurous spritzer, but getting loads of lovely ideas from everyone here.,I’ve started trying out some new scents, but this sounds like one I will enjoy trying.

      • If you like oud I am pretty sure you would find Satin Mood very interesting . The notes are very well blended and a little dab lasts forever!

  1. We are in a declared State of Emergency due to the ice/ snowstorm so no work for me today.
Inspired by Portia’s Mood Scents post I am testing my newest concoction…. to my already patched up Mistral Patchouli I added cocoa oil and peppermint oil. Both of those blend nice with the patchouli.

  2. And being housebound with the storm I looked through the entire Luckyscent fragrance selection. Did not make a purchase …proud of myself. I did notice some size shrinkage on full bottles for some of the brands and price hikes on others ( looking at you Masque Milano and Papillon)

  3. Ambre Precieux by MPG. I think it is anyway, someone sent me a sample that has smudged the label, it is really nice though.

  4. Finally saying hi! Tested Fève Délicieuse today. I was not blown away. The earth did not move. I’ll probably have my perfumista card revoked for this bit of blasphemy. It smelled like candies on me! Kind of crummy ones, to boot. I didn’t hate it tho, it was just okay. I expected something rich and cozy. Nope, not on my skin ☹️

    • Too bad, but tonka bean seems to be in a lot of perfumes now, so you may be able to find something better suited to your taste. You know, I don’t get Shalimar (have never tried the vintage formulations), so we all have our personal preferences among the orientals.

      • Try Shalimar in extrait formula, it may change your opinion. Preferable an extrait from 2010 or before. I dont know how extrait smells now but the one that blew me away was def. pre 2010. I understand why shalimar might not have impressed you because I might have reacted the same if edp or edt was all I smelled. I think Shalimar in extrait feels more complex and a proper perfume.

      • I love Feve Delicieuse and purchased a bottle; however, I can understand not loving it. I typically don’t go for gourmands but I enjoy tonka. Feve is not an everyday wear, but I enjoy it occasionally.

    • I am with you. I got feve twice and sold it both times. I tried to get on the feve bandwagon but just cannot understand why its so popular. I also do not like Guerlain’s SDV much for the same reason as SDV also seems to me an overdose of a single note and does not feel like a proper complex perfume creation.

  5. I went commando this morning . Until I got to Myer. I sprayed Versace Dylan Blue Femme . It isn’t anything to get excited about . I am anxious today because the estate agent is doing an inspection . I emptied a few more boxes and cleaned all the floors until they gleamed!

  6. A bit rushed this morning, so didin’t apply perfume before I came to the office. I have been wearing Van Cleef and Arpels Bois d’ Iris today, one of few samples on my desk. This one is nice, but I doubt I will buy a bottle, becaus it doesn’t last well on my skin.

  8. I tried mugler aura edp since it arrived few days ago. I wanted to like it but so far I am neutral. Luckily it is 30ml size only so I may keep it. Some people mentioned it reminds them of Alien and I def. think Aura’s dna is the closest to alien among all mugler creations. Rhubarb is present from the very first moment and stays on my skin during the entire duration. The green color, indeed, suits the fragrance more than any other color so they did get the bottle color and ad, right. It is strange I actually like Alien, which is the closest to aura in my opinion, but I am so far neutral towards aura even though I think I tried aura in the right weather. I respect Mugler for they are always willing to experiment and do give us surprises. I like Alien, recognize how novel Angel was when it came out, and do think Aura respects Mugler’s heritage. For this reason, i may always keep Angel, Alien, and Aura in my collection even if I expect them to wear very rarely.

    • I adore Alien and it’s flankers, and get many compliments when wearing Alien Essence Absolue. Aura I sampled and liked it but not a love for a FB purchase. Many years ago I purchased Angel because of it’s novelty and grew to hate it. I also respect Mugler.

  9. Monday I had on Phaedon’s Tabac Rouge. I am one of the set of people (n=1, I suspect) that prefers this to Tobacco Vanille.

Today I’m wearing Chanel’s Allure Homme. I think I’ll layer it with a bit of Nasomatto Pardon tonight before going to my work Christmas party.

May stick with it all week

This seems to be a theme with me as of late…

I also brought up five full bottles and four oil blends. They are on the shelf in the bathroom. Gonna work on some thunkin’!!

  11. I am headed after work today to a visitation and prayer service for my aunt who recently passed. This morning I agonized over what to wear–sitting in close quarters for the prayer service and all that hugging calls for something subdued, respectful, and inoffensive. I finally settled on Hilde Soliani Sweet Home, it just felt right.

  12. Got YSL Jazz on today. This is the closest FB I have to being thunked. I bought it years ago as a not-very-full partial bottle and I still haven’t emptied the damn thing. There’s just always some other bright and shiny alternative when the weather is right for this.

This morning I am wearing a scent which is simply magical Sadly it is unknown by name because the wording has disappeared off the plastic sample phial ! I am so annoyed because it would go into my wish list!
Cassieflower please send me an email so I can send you my new home address!

I feel better today. Will go with DUMP again and tomorrow too. Next week may do a week of Eau de Lierre. That one always reminds me of Neva 💜💙💚

      • Potent and complex. It has plenty of sandalwood, which here does not bother me much because it is perfectly blended with the rest of the notes like amber, incense, rose, etc. Very beautiful!

Is sandalwood an issue for you? Because it’s in the blend that I made for you that I recently sent lol 😂 Somehow I thought you like sandalwood 😬🙃

          • Sandalwood and tuberose are notes that I cannot handle in perfumes if they are very prominent. However, I don’t have any problems with sandalwood essential oil. I have worn it straight from the bottle and I like it. I have never tried tuberose essential oil.

  17. Exploring the gourmand theme with three siblings from different fathers: Guerlain l’Heure Bleue, PG Bois de Copaiba, and Roja Dove Enslaved. Not that I had the money for either one right now, but it’s fun to choose the right one (and impossible, it would seem).

    • Cassieflower I sent you a reply email . Saturday has arrived . I have sprayed a few dose of Crabtree Evelyn Gardenia to get me through the shift. My parents made a surprise visit yesterday and bought quite a few items with them. Amongst everything was a little collection of perfume bottles. And not just any perfume bottles. These are 5 cute VINTAGE minis! Wanna know what they are????
