Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 16.12 – 22.12.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

      • Absolutely freaking gorgeous. It’s the perfect combo of powder and almonds. Now it’s extra special knowing that Robert loved it too. I have Kathleen to thank for my very large decant. A little goes a long way. I will be wearing it all week. I could see this as a seasonal signature scent. It’s that good.

  1. Not today, but yesterday I tried Chanel’s Biarritz, which is to be discontinued, I was told, and the lovely SA at Chanel (South Australia) gave me a sample of Riviera. I thought Biarritz was lovely but not long lasting. I haven’t tried Riviera yet but I gave the first spritz to my daughter. She has 12- years- old on Saturday skin, so everything smells good on her!
The SA was just gorgeous, informative, knowledgeable, and friendly.
Today I received my sample pack of Sylvaine Delacourte’s Orange Blossom Collection. Excited to try this, hoping for something lovely for summer.

    • Ooo please report back on your orange blossom samplings! I tried her other two collections ( musk and vanilla) and enjoyed them immensely.
I also love that she offers smaller bottles and sets.

      • Hi Brigitte, I hope that you see this. I have only just discovered the little button on the website that shows me replies to comments! Feeling a bit dumb!
So far, I think that Ozkan, is my favourite of Sylvaine Delacourte’s orange blossom series. That’s a real surprise for me as I have mentioned that I don’t like immortelle, but here, it is just right. The others so far are pretty, but I admit I have Lutens’s Fleurs d’Orangers, which is a big, gutsy, oily wonder, so others do tend to pale a little in comparison.
However, for the price and the lovely packaging, and to try something that I would never otherwise by likely to try, I think it’s more than worth the small price of the collection.

    • I’m very curious about the orange blossom collection. I enjoyed the vanila although didn’t find a love, and the musk was just ok for me (musk not being my favorite thing to feature.) Will enjoy hearing your thoughts.

  2. I am sick as a dog with a sinus infection and have been in bed four days. So, I’ve been doing oils instead of perfume. Bought a bunch of 5 ml bottles from Poesie and wearing those. Also put on Amelie Mae by Lush last night. Jammy rose still is with me. At least I can smell.

  3. Started out in Premier Figuier . And Adam Levine was sitting on my desk at work so of course I had to spray him on straight away. And very nice it is too. It’s reminding me of something

  4. 4160 Tuesdays Eau My Soul. A fresh dusting of snow on the ground today, fortunately not bitter cold. I work at a preschool and we are being assessed for re-accreditation today so everyone is nervous. I decided to do the big floor drum lesson in my music classes – I hope the assessor brought her earplugs! Eau My Soul is a nice warm and cozy one for this kind of day.

  5. I’m wearing Hermetica Patchoulight. From my sample pack – thank you Libertine Parfumerie- beautiful packaging, extra samples – so so good. Also got the Costume National sample pack and Frapin pack. Can’t wait to wear Orchid Man again.
Brigette – I may have found another pineapple scent for you. Need to wear it again but on really quick test BDK Rouge smoking. Don’t know anything about this one. It was one of the extra samples sent in my box. Initial thoughts were like Midnight Fleur but juicier and richer. Will wear in earnest and let you know xx

  6. Feeling the heat this week. Yesterday I wore Mona di Orio Eau Absolue, from a roll-on. Today I’ve sprayed myself liberally with Mugler Cologne, always a good idea.

  8. I wore Givenchy Pi. Even vintage version does not project a lot but it does have a good longevity. The drydown is really awesome. Went to ebay and ordered another vintage edt for a great price. The next best alternative to being an actual astronaut is to wear vintage Pi and pretend to be an astronaut 😀

      • yeah, astronauts are really one of the coolest professionals out there.. If there are two people in front of me, one a Hollywood A-league celebrity and another an astronaut, I think I wont even notice the celebrity because I would be so bedazzled by the astronaut.

  9. A late hello. I wore Mitzah today and it was gorgeous. Closing down the shop on Wednesday and sending the workers home until after New Year. I’ll be glad not to have to deal with them for a while.
Just finished some more Christmas baking. Rinse and repeat for tomorrow evening.
I had the worst trouble falling asleep last night. Finally conked out around 3:00 and woke up at 6:30. Now I’m afraid to go to bed for fear of a repetition. Which pretty much guarantees one 😒

  11. Amouage Lyric Woman. I am not a fan of Amouage, but had a crazy moment and tried Love Tuberose which I like very much, so decided to try Lyric Woman. This is a winner too. Do you think there’s a cosmic joker out there? First Amouage then Serge Lutens. I never liked him either. Then I tried Iris(h) Silver Mist and it became my best of 2019.

  12. Got YSL Pour Homme EDT on today. It’s not an olfactory reference, but this comes across as a bit oily and clingy on me. It’s a good lemon scent, but I prefer my citrus sharper and more bracing. Maybe I should look for a cross between Monsieur Balmain and Sel Marin.

  13. As one of my friends says I am up at the butt crack of dawn wearing Lyric again. Found out that Amouage the name is derived from the Arabic word for waves, amwaj. Well, now we know how to pronounce it!

Post shower will wear Pure eVe . No work due to mini Marzipan’s surgery.

  14. Dragging my heels this morning. Have work Xmas lunch today. We have four business on one site all connected to the one man. So you know it’s that whole thing of having to talk to people you don’t know, and probably won’t have anything to do with until next Xmas party. Add in lunch outside under a marquee and today is gonna be 41 (or 105.8 for our friends on the other side) I don’t want to go.
Was gonna wear Ralph but opted for a natural hair mist that I’ll spray every where – rose and peppermint. Something light that usually lasts for ages.

    • Hope you survived the party. That sure is hot under a marquee. Did you get to go straight home afterwards to stand under the shower? My works do is Saturday night and I’ll be wearing my big warm furry coat to keep warm over my thin Christmas dress. How unevenly the world is divided in so many ways😉

  15. I wore Coze today. Dry as a bone and spicy. Was not in the mood for the usual suspects.
Crazy day. My head is spinning à la Exorcist, but the office is locked up till the New Year. Tomorrow is the Wealthie’s Xmas do. I’m going to see how they feel about me shutting down the construction work for a couple of weeks in Jan or Feb. I want a vacation. Somewhere HOT! With fancy drinks and lots of sun.

I have posted a pic on my Facebook page if you’d like to see it. Stay cool , or warm as to what your weather dictates

    • Oh! I thought this was some sort of abbreviated accounting of your day. You were Awake. Had a glass of Malt. Things went Dark. It must have been Night. You smelled Smoke. Your mind was in a Haze.
      We’re any of them good?

      • Awake from a Haze in the dark night searching for a malt and a smoke…. how’s that Mrs Miller?
You would like Night…. it’s a cumin bomb. Awake is coffee. Dark is chocolate. Haze is weed but all I smell is green. Wasn’t a pot smoker so I have no frame of reference. Malt is a boozy aquatic. Smoke is dry tobacco. The theme of this brand is addictions of which perfume is one.

Not gonna tell him anything about it at all, just going to spray it on him. He’s constantly asking if I can come across any Calligraphy anywhere, he’s starting to worry cos he’s down to a third left in his bottle. That spicy elephant might work for him.

Great party at the Wealthie’s last night – much better than last year’s stuffy, staid event. Live band, open bar and terrific food. They gave me an incredibly generous bonus which I will share with my contractor who has been working every bit as hard as I have, as we juggle multiple projects.
Got a thumbs up for a two week pause as well. I’ll most likely be aiming for a mid-February break, depending on where we are work-wise. Today will be gym, baking and wrapping gifts.

We had our reaccreditation visit on Monday and Tuesday which was stressful, and of course I have ended up with some kind of nasty virus from little kid germs. Wearing Tauerville Tuberose Flash today, it’s on my list of never wear to school perfumes. Did anyone else like this one? I find it quite bubblegum-y but not over the top sweet.

  25. I can finally smell again after getting antibiotics to treat my sinuses! Not totally recovered yet, so have used varius citrus scentric perfumes the past few days, those are safe to use even when I cannot smell just how much to apply. Hopefully i will be right as rain before Christmas Eve and have the energy to finally get some baking done. No work today and holiday until the start of 2020, bliss! And to top it off i received my decant of ELdO I am Trash today. Thank you, Portia! Very excited about the other samples included too. Will report back tomorrow how these work for me, at least a first impression.

  26. Amouage Lyric Woman again. This one is up there with my favorite roses and I found out they have a body lotion and a body cream. Heavenly.
Tried VM Hedonist Absolute a few days ago. Nice perfume, nicely made, but not for me. I get hints of the original Hedonist in the dry-down.

  27. I’ve showered and will not reapply MAAI. It’s not really something you wear to crowded places. We’re going downtown en famille to see Les Grands Ballets perform The Nutcracker Suite. We’ve been doing this since the girls were four and seven. I would dress them up in beautiful Christmas dresses, usually some form of red plaid (Mr LH is inordinately proud of his distant Scottish heritage) with black velvet Peter Pan collars and black patent shoes. They were adorable.
I think I’ll wear Coze, not likely to offend or overwhelm others.

  33. So I tried “I am Trash” from the decant Portia sent. It is rather potent to start with, then hums along for around 3 hours on my skin. Something fruity, like fresh lychees, really nice. No decay or wilting flowers, perhaps I misunderstand what’s written in French? Perhaps I’ll bring this perfume for a few days away during the Christmas break.

Also included was a sample of Dior Mitzah. On my skin this is very good, still not something I absolutely must have, so I fear I’m not picking up on all the nuances. I know several APJers rate Mitzah very highly.

    • Ingeborg, I got a sample of Mitzah as well in my recent PPP. Unlike you, I loved it. Apparently I must go to Paris to purchase if I would like this love affair to continue. Be glad it’s not a big winner for you.

      • Hello All !!! Happy Sunday . I will apologise in advance. This will be a long post! I hope not to bore you. Anyway I have a few things to say. Firstly THANK YOU for getting me through this awful time It has been a full year since I found out about the cheater. Onwards and Upwards. Because I was feeling so emotional I had chosen to think samples on my days off because I really didn’t want to associate my bottles with bad emotions. On Friday I changed my mind! So it was searching for bottles of scents in my collection that I wasn’t sure about! So on Friday I wore Miracle by Lancôme. It is a very ‘pretty ‘ ‘ clean scent. Admittedly I possibly overs prayed however the first person I encountered at work gave me a compliment! The work partner ( a male) told me I smelt lovely ! In fact he swooned! His name is Ray . He asked me about where to buy his wife a bottle! I gave details. On Saturday I knew Ray was working but on another wing . I found him and said” Give this to your wife” A 50 ml bottle containing about 30 ml left . Ray protested but I insisted . On Saturday I wore DIva by Ungaro . More my cup of tea. Brighter and Bolder. And it garnered me more compliments than I thought one could get!!! Seven ppl commented from a cleaner to a couple of patients! No one is getting my Diva!!! Despite these wins at work privately at home I have been a mess crying constantly. I have another Saturday story but I will write about it next week
