Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 23.12 – 29.12.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. I got overwhelmed by Wrappings this weekend. I love it, but I abused it and I need to take a break from it now. Wearing Yardley Iris to give my nose some rest. Very simple, comfy and fleeting scent. Just what I need today.

  2. JLo’s Still. Was recommended to me a couple of years ago and today I finally got my hands on a big bottle at a cheap price. Will spritz with abandon. Perfect summer scent, to my nose. I have something like it, but not sure what that is. Or maybe I’m thinking of my Mum’s Arden Green Tea?

    • Green Tea is lovely too. So easy to wear. My mom recently bought me a huge bottle because she loved how it smelled on my when we tested it in Marshall’s. I think JLo has a similar vibe? And it’s also very inexpensive.

  3. Inspired by Jyotsna I went for tuberose as well with Carnal Flower. It seems a shame to wear this in winter, it really needs the heat to bloom. But then again, so do I. So Carnal Flower and I will settle for being but a shadow of our spectacular selves 😏

  4. In several spritzes of Bottega Veneta. It’s a very calming fragrance for these busy days. Was out yesterday in lots of Vanille Fatale. That one needs overspraying on me to make an impact.

  5. Went without scent this morning, busy organising stuff, doing laundry, scrubbing bathroom and much more. Have been out to a shopping centre to get a few gift cards, total chaos and not easy to navigate the crowds. Had to give up sniffing perfume, but bought myself a knitted twin set at Benetton, so now I’ll be able to put together some warm, yet rather stylish outfits. Putting on SL Five o’clock au Gingembre as a late SOTD, and trying to relax, while still finishing some important tasks.

  6. FK Baccarat Rouge. Hanging out with my sister and it is her signature scent. Beautiful perfume; however, I feel like an imposter wearing it, it is my sister’s scent.

  7. After looking through my sea of samples/ decants decided to retest A Lover’s Tale. This one is not as potent as the other three I have. Later will spray my neck with vintage no 22.
I also realized that I do indeed have some of those brands that y’all talked about during our Saturday question. So it led me to the conclusion that January will be a heavy duty testing month. At least for the wrists. The neck may continue to get tried and true 😁

  8. Just tried a sample of La Haine – Mark Buxton I believe. I sniffed and sniffed, but could not discern any shattered glass…

    • I love violet fragrances. I may pull one of mine out. I haven’t sprayed anything yet today. Still lounging in bed at 1 p.m.!!! Because I am on vacation. I have to make the homemade sauce for the lasagna I am making tomorrow, hard boil the eggs and make the homemade egg nog. That can all be done later at my leisure.

    • As I write this it is 24 th December! Yippee Christmas Eve . Yesterday I wore Lancôme Miracle to do Christmas food shopping with a friend. We got it done quickly then had a coffee. Unexpectedly I got a call from Salvos,,, can you spare an hour or two? Well I gave 6 of my spare hours!!!! And today I am giving another 6!!!! I can’t write them all now but I can say Ballarat will be smelling good on Christmas Day!!! I do have to share the best gift I wrapped. A dozen eggs !!! Freshly laid still slightly warm!!! Oh and on Sunday night one of my friends and I shared Xmas pressies. Amongst the items was a bottle of SJP NYC in the bright colourful packaging. . I am not entirely convinced it is my cup of tea but I will give it a try.

    • Merry Christmas, Diana. I’m in SL Five o’clock au gingembre and haven’t decided what to wear this evening. Just got news that my father and stepmother are both really sick, so our journey to the cabin has been cancelled and I’ll celebrate with my sister and BIL! Dinner wasn’t planned to be here, so perhaps it will be steaks of venison rather than roasted pork. We won’t be lacking anything other than the company of our loved ones and half of the presents, so it could have been worse.

  9. Maja talc powder before dressing. I haven’t worn body powder in years (used to wear Youth Dew dusting powder from the light blue box, recently read a post on Non Blonde blog about scented body powders, forgot how I loved the extra layer of fragrance.
Rose Jam today again. I love this perfume! Just noticed Lush is selling the perfume again, bottle ordered!

  10. Mr. LH and I were out and about early this morning in an effort to miss the crowds. We went to the central market to our favorite butcher for the roast and made a detour to the cheese shop. Bought a gorgeous selection of French cheeses. A couple of goat, and several raw cow milk. LH got his Ported Stilton, so he’s happy. Crowds were minimal at 8:00.
Did some errands with my eldest daughter later. Along the way I sprayed Chanel No. 5 EDT. I still can’t wear it 😥. I love this on others. It was my mother’s signature. I’ve been trying to wear it since I was in my 20’s. It still does not work on me. I guess I’ll try it again in another 10 years.
Washed off the Chanel, wearing Salome!! Time to make the raspberry jam for the trifle extravaganza. I can not wait till tomorrow evening! As excited as a silly seven year old 👧

  11. Minimal peeps in the office today so wearing two scents – Left arm is Floris Leather Oud, right is Costume National Homme. CN Homme slightly louder – a spicy yet creamy smooth scent. Both probably need a top up, with both sitting pretty close to my skin. Maybe the air con too cool for them.
Best wishes for a lovely festive few days for all the amazing and delightful people here on APJ. Its truly a beautiful space. However you celebrate may there be love and laughter xx

  12. I ended up wearing Guerlain Angelique Lilas but it was quickly overpowered. I made homemade sauce for the lasagna that I am making tomorrow for Christmas. It cooked down for about six hours after frying the meat bones, onion and garlic. Then I hardboiled eggs. Then I made homemade eggnog. Between all this cooking and going to the barn, the smell of spring was smothered. I am beat now and taking a break to go watch His Dark Materials and rest. Tomorrow I will fry the beef, pork, onions and garlic; mix the cheese/egg layer and assemble the whole lasagna then bake it and let it cool and rest overnight. That makes it stick together well into layers and let the flavors mingle. So, a homemade lasagna is a three-day process in my house. We’ll have shrimp cocktail and salad on Christmas Day for the Italian side of my heritage. Christmas Eve will be pierogi with cucumber salad and sauerkraut for the Ukrainian side of my heritage. Since it’s just me and mom since dad died, we are going to see Cats after dinner tomorrow night, too, then some Christmas lights. New traditions mixed with old. What is your Christmas tradition? I have no idea what perfume I will wear yet.

    • Lovely food choices! What’s the filling in the pierogi? I’ve only ever had the different versions from Finland. We used to make shrimp cocktails a lot for parties many years ago, now different dishes with smoked salmon is more usual. We will have roasted pork with a kind of pickled cabbage this evening. In Norway the main celebration is on Christmas Eve , so I’m busy getting ready so we can leave once my BIL finishes work, to join part of our family.

  14. I wore two. One is nautica latitude and longitude but the other one I cannot figure out. It is a circular bottle, 30ml, with a flower etched on both sides. Flowers on both sides of the bottle do have different designs rather than being the same. The cap is simple (like those on Revlon Charlie bottles) and golden in color. It is a frosted bottle and the liquid inside is yellow. It is def. floral chype and the only name is on the base, i.e. Molinard etched in glass on the base. While I know the brand, I cannot figure out which perfume it is. Anyone who can help me?

      • Has to be Molinard de Molinard. That’s a beautiful fragrance. Wondering how it’s held up over the years. Do you like it?

  16. I was working my final shift on Monday and wore Eau Sauvage Parfum. Tuesday was all housework, getting ready and all that, so I didn’t bother.

Christmas Day was Mark Birley Cologne. This just seems a step up from your typical cologne and lasts longer on me. After a very quiet start we got hit by Cyclone Grandchildren and had a really fun night. We capped off a typical Christmas by trying to do a jigsaw puzzle under the influence of some serious whisky which, as it turns out, didn’t help much.

We had a low-key day. Christmas tacos for lunch and spent the day playing Pokémon cards & minecraft with teh Boy.

My son bought me a bunch fab erasers this year. Yep, erasers. (I go thru a ton and they were at the top of my wishlist).

Birthdays have been harder for him since our parents passed but today was good. I’m off for another week so I’m truly enjoying the break from little kid germs and early mornings!

    • I received a most special Christmas card today (27 Dec) from Cassieflower!!! Thanks sweetheart it is beautiful and shall be treasured. I had an emotional breakdown on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. I ended up ringing in sick because I was so sad and tired. My parents drove me home to Ballarat . After they left I fell into bed and cried myself to sleep. No gifts received from my sisters. My parents tried hard but missed the mark . I will buy myself a few bottles in the New Year.

  19. Such a busy couple of days with Smallies that I’m behind🤪 And I have just drawn a big fat blank on what I sprayed on this morning. It wasn’t anything strong because we were at a panto this evening and I wouldn’t want to overpower anyone. What has caused me to forget is the fact that I sprayed on some Ysatis about an hour ago and it’s all I can smell. But dammit anyway there’s a slight turning of my little gem. Wonder what the new formulation is like? Anyone get their sniff on it? I’d probably be mortally wounded by it but maybe I should give it a try.
