Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 30.12 – 5.1.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. My favourite cheapie: Red Moscow.

Dear APJers, I might be too overwhelmed with all the last-minute preparations tomorrow so I’m going to wish you a Happy New Year tonight! May 2020 right all the wrongs the previous one brought, or at least be peaceful! XX

  2. Reeking havoc this evening testing a bazillion things…. probably about 15 or so just random choices… Off the top of my head: Functional Fragrance, Mem, California Reverie, Golden Sand, Jour Absolu, Molton Brown Brandy, Kilian Apple Brandy….. there’s more but I can’t remember!

  3. Monday was just so hot, very nasty. I stayed inside nearly all day. I wore Green Irish Tweed.

Today is the only reasonable day this week. I’ve got Geranium Pour Monsieur on. I think it would evaporate in an instants if I were to wear it later in the week.

  4. Hope you feel better real soon Marcella. I’m trying to decide between some vintage Joy, or No 19. Will prob be the No 29 as I’ve got a whole heap of things to get done and I really am baulking at the thought, especially having to drive in the NYE traffic. Need to get going now. I wish you all the very best for 2020 and hope that it’s a belter!

  5. I’m wearing a perfume by Dawn Spencer Hurwitz for Scent Trunk. It features coriander and rose. Dawn posted about it on her IG and there was a 5ml travel spray on offer, so I decided to try. It’s very much a DSH perfume, I definitely get the rose and coriander and a bunch of leather.

  6. Escada Pour Homme (the first for men from Escada and discontinued now) arrived today. Tried a little bit and even though I acquired edt early in my fragrance journey, I have gotten my hands on the relatively rarer edp version only this year. It is ridiculously good and def. related to edt. I was not even aware there was an edp version of it until few months ago.

      • So happy it finally arrived! I had hoped it would reach you at the latest on the Dec. 27. But even cards to Austria and Switzerland took twice as long as normal to get there. Happy New Year!

  7. I tried TRNP Arjuna yesterday evening. Very resinous and with a masculine vibe to it on my skin.

The little I found written about it did not match my experience of it. There’s supposed to be sandalwood, but it didn’t create that warm woodiness I love. This was a gift from Portia, but I will pass the the spray vial on, it was not for me. I even tried washing the scent off, but the base notes stick like glue (they are pleasant enough). So I am impressed with the longevity, more than nine hours. I think I should explore the more floral perfumes from this house, they look very interesting and more like my cup of tea.

  8. TF Sahara Noir for me tonight. Sipping a glass of bubbles just now but will probably tuck in before midnight. Especially because it’s a whole lot cooler than the last few days.
Happy New year lovely fragrant peeps – look forward to hanging out with you in 2020 xx

  9. Commando. Sick. Against my better judgement I am going in to the office for a couple of hours. I’m not getting any better by resting and I’m losing what’s left of my mind just ‘resting’ 😠. It doesn’t work anyhow. I will rest later since I am not going out this year 😡

  11. I had to see out 2019 by doing one last op shop run. I managed to score two perfumes. The first was Dunhill Desire Red, which is what I have on today. It’s OK, sort of a fruity scent rather than citrus; I get faint apple and rose, and I mean faint. Pretty unisex in my opinion, and might be worth hanging onto for occasional use.

The other find went straight into the vintage cabinet: Faberge Straw Hat. This was discontinued in 1976, so it’s 40-50 years old. Still smells quite OK, although the juice looks a bit on the dark side. Since I don’t know what it originally looked like, I’m not too worried.

  12. Last day of staycation so I will be doing loads of sampling today!!
I thunked a large number of samples, decants and full bottle via familial confiscation yesterday! My parents came for a visit and they helped themselves 🤣🤣

  13. I have put on Jean Louis Scherrer One Love. I love this one, a (green/modern) chypre much like perfumes I remember from the early 80s when I first visited France.

  14. Eau de Rochas today. Lemon soap, but very well done, and lasts well.

I actually thunked a sample the other day – sort of. I had to chuck out my Caron Pour Un Homme sample because the sprayer got stuck. It was nearly gone anyway, so I’m counting it.

  15. Guerlain L’Heure Bleue. After the opening which I like a lot, the rest is very annoying. No matter how many times I try it and how much I would like to love it, this is not for me.

    • Hi I am luckily not near any bushfires. I have been wearing only 3 scents since Xmas , . They are Gucci Bloom Aqua Di Fiori . CWA 1922 and Joop All About Eve . Each is a light happy breezy scent. They also need reapplying at work. Still feeling overwhelmed

  18. Sampled three Francesca Bianchi fragrances, Lover’s Tale, The Dark Side, and The Black Knight. I enjoyed The Dark Side best, all notes that I love. Lover’s Tale was goatcheese/barnyard on me but did soften over time, and The Black Knight leather notes not my fave. Wonderful to have the opportunity to experience these as I’ve read about them.
