Hi APJ,
A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.
You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.
SOTD 30.12 – 5.1.2020
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Go To It Crew.

That’s ridiculously fantastic! I have not smelled it since the 80’s. I had the white canister with the gold accent. How has age treated no. 22?
LikeLike
Yes!! That’s the one! I had it too! And wore it in the early 80s. I think I thunked 4 canisters. Well, actually the canisters were refillable and the refill was extraordinaryly inexpensive. It still smells sublime. Current formulation is missing the incense and seems sweetened up from the addition of Amber. Plus it’s ten times the price as it’s now in the exclusive line. I will need to send you a sample of this too, eh?
LikeLike
Oh yes please! 💃🏻 And true, I remember buying the refills. Dowdy glass bottles that you just loaded into the canister. Smart system.

And cheap as chips… $37.50 for 50 ml

Yeah 🙁. Sometimes I get so angry about the stratospheric prices that some perfumes are sold for. It makes me cross enough to feel like simply not buying anything 😡
LikeLike
Yes. Me too. When no 22 became an exclusive I stopped buying it and pretty much most of Chanel.
LikeLike
Same here! I adore the Les Exclusifs line, but considering what I used to pay, I find the current pricing somewhat suspect. Of course, the cost of raw materials has increased along with production being more expensive, but by that much 🤨 Methinks the folks at Chanel are getting a bit too greedy.
LikeLike
They are getting greedy. Because I doubt the aromachemicals they use have gone up in price as much as essential oils which I highly suspect they no longer use.

Monday was just so hot, very nasty. I stayed inside nearly all day. I wore Green Irish Tweed.
Today is the only reasonable day this week. I’ve got Geranium Pour Monsieur on. I think it would evaporate in an instants if I were to wear it later in the week.

Hope you feel better real soon Marcella. I’m trying to decide between some vintage Joy, or No 19. Will prob be the No 29 as I’ve got a whole heap of things to get done and I really am baulking at the thought, especially having to drive in the NYE traffic. Need to get going now. I wish you all the very best for 2020 and hope that it’s a belter!

I’m wearing a perfume by Dawn Spencer Hurwitz for Scent Trunk. It features coriander and rose. Dawn posted about it on her IG and there was a 5ml travel spray on offer, so I decided to try. It’s very much a DSH perfume, I definitely get the rose and coriander and a bunch of leather.

Escada Pour Homme (the first for men from Escada and discontinued now) arrived today. Tried a little bit and even though I acquired edt early in my fragrance journey, I have gotten my hands on the relatively rarer edp version only this year. It is ridiculously good and def. related to edt. I was not even aware there was an edp version of it until few months ago.

I tried TRNP Arjuna yesterday evening. Very resinous and with a masculine vibe to it on my skin.
The little I found written about it did not match my experience of it. There’s supposed to be sandalwood, but it didn’t create that warm woodiness I love. This was a gift from Portia, but I will pass the the spray vial on, it was not for me. I even tried washing the scent off, but the base notes stick like glue (they are pleasant enough). So I am impressed with the longevity, more than nine hours. I think I should explore the more floral perfumes from this house, they look very interesting and more like my cup of tea.

It’s the “new” version, I think..or so the sample says and if I am not mistaken only obtained in Paris? Someone else correct me if I’m wrong. Definitely a gourmand on my skin. Quite lovely.

I had to see out 2019 by doing one last op shop run. I managed to score two perfumes. The first was Dunhill Desire Red, which is what I have on today. It’s OK, sort of a fruity scent rather than citrus; I get faint apple and rose, and I mean faint. Pretty unisex in my opinion, and might be worth hanging onto for occasional use.
The other find went straight into the vintage cabinet: Faberge Straw Hat. This was discontinued in 1976, so it’s 40-50 years old. Still smells quite OK, although the juice looks a bit on the dark side. Since I don’t know what it originally looked like, I’m not too worried.

I had fun for about 100 people. We had people come over to join our company in the hotel last night because we were enjoying ourselves so much. They were watching for us to come in. They spotted us the night before. Two young couples, one from London, one from South Dakota/Ecuador. It was a nice compliment actually.

Sampled three Francesca Bianchi fragrances, Lover’s Tale, The Dark Side, and The Black Knight. I enjoyed The Dark Side best, all notes that I love. Lover’s Tale was goatcheese/barnyard on me but did soften over time, and The Black Knight leather notes not my fave. Wonderful to have the opportunity to experience these as I’ve read about them.
